Chapter 13 Orders
I watch them carefully not taking my eyes off of them even for a second. Even though I helped them rescue Hayley, I'm still not sure how I feel about all of this. One minute I want to destroy Klaus and everybody he cares about and the next I'm help rescuing his baby mama. If that's the right word to use? The front door opens and I look to see who it is, Rebekah steps in a confused look upon her face as her gaze meets mine. She closes the door softly as everybody's eyes land on her.
Elijah backs away from Hayley like he's just been caught. I look down at the dark hardwood floors below me, placing my elbows on my knees as I rub my hands together. The room grows stiff but I don't bother to turn my attention back to everybody. Hayley leaves the room to get some rest telling everybody it's been along day. I chuckle under my breath so nobody can hear me, she does have a point it has been one hell of a long day.
"Rebekah," Elijah says breaking the silence that once filled the room.
"Elijah," Her tone is low and ready for answers. "What the bloody hell is he doing here?"
I smirk at her question as glance up at her. Rebekah glares at me, her hands placed perfectly on her hip.
"He helped save Hayley today." Elijah respectfully replies, "Show a little respect Rebekah."
"Why should she?" The voice is cold and bitter.
I look up to see Klaus standing in the doorway of the living room his arms crossed against his chest. He leans up against the doorway, it's holding his weight, for now. His eyes are clouded with disgust and full of anger. Elijah looks at him, he stands straight like he's waiting for a fight to come. The room is filled with silence as Klaus and Elijah have a stare down.
Klaus gives us one more death glare before he walks to the door slamming with everything that he has. I get up from the leather chair, running my fingers through my jet black hair. I clear my throat my eyes looking around the room. Elijah leaves the room making it feel more emptier then it was before everything went down. I can feel Rebekah's steel blue eyes glaring at me and I can't help but smile to myself. She would always do this when she was mad at me.
Flashback
"Elias!" Her voice chasing after me as I stroll down the hall.
Aden and I stand side by side as we turn around to see a furious Rebekah walking down the hallway towards us. Aden jabs me in my ribs with his elbow causing me to glare at him. He smirks at me and wiggles his eyebrow.
"You're in trouble... what did you do to her?" He ask teasing me.
"I don't know." I say quickly because as soon as I know it Rebekah's standing in front of us.
She does it so quick I don"t see it coming her right hand pulling back as the pain begins to kick in. I hold my cheek, my head angled away from her. Aden let's out an amused laugh and I snap my head back to look at her. I remove my hand from my cheek my blood boiling with anger as I think to myself. What the hell was that for? Rebekah takes a step back her eyes burning with tears and I feel bad.
"How could you?" She cries out.
She's clearly upset wth me. But I have no idea what she's talking about. Aden rubs a hand over his face as he continues to chuckle. How is any of this funny? I calm down trying to speak but it seems like I can't.
"How could you do this to me? To us?" She challenges and it finally hits me.
"I had to," I begin, "Rebekah you don't get it. I have to follow orders, you're friends killed a lot of innocent people. I had an order and I took it, please forgive me."
"They were my friends, my family." She callously answers.
I look down at the floors, I bite my tongue trying to say anything but noting comes to my my mind immediately.
"I did what I had to do!" I bark back catching everybody's attention. "If it was Klaus asking you to do the same thing you would have done it without even asking a question."
"No I wouldn't," She maintains.
"Yes you would. You would do anything and everything to make him happy. Because of your stupid "always and forever." I say force coming out with each word
"Go to hell Elias," Rebekah spits out.
Right back at you! I think in my head but don't actually say it. She never understands, it had to be done. When there's an order we don't ask questions we just do. I close my eyes letting everything wash through me. I know I'm going to have to apologize to her, dad's wishes, everything I do is for him... to make him happy and proud of me.
I jaunt down the narrow hallway leaving Aden behind not really in the mood for any of his commentary right now.
End Of Flashback
"Why are you doing this?" Rebekah's voice shaking me from my thoughts.
"I don't know," At least I think I don't.
I take in a deep breath and release it slowly my eyes meeting Rebekah. I don't look away because if I do that would mean defeat and that's something I'm not use to. The only time I've ever failed was when my family was killed and I vowed it would never happen again. She moves closer to me and I hike and eyebrow up. She bites her lip and I smile she knows exactly what I was thinking about.
"That fight was horrible."
"It was," I honestly answer. "I never got the chance to really apologize, the next thing I knew you were in New Orleans for a year."
"You don't have too..." She pauses and I see that look in her eyes. "After all Klaus did have you're family killed. I'm incredibly sorry Elias for all the pain and lies I held from you."
The look of sadness. Something I would love to take away but I can't, I don't need anymore pain... lies.
"You weren't the only one." I say as I make my way towards the front door. "Goodnight Rebekah."
"Good night Elias." Rebekah tone is soft, our eyes never breaking contact.
