21. Dwellings of the Past

Raven's POV

"You can't just do that, Raven!" Barry shouts as all of us enter the cortex, his eyes directed at me. He pauses a moment after yelling the phrase, realizing how angry he had sounded. "You can't just race out of here like that...not after what just happened to you."

I slide my gloves off and throw them to the side, my mind spinning still with what Killer Frost had reminded me of. "I'm fine, Barry. Cisco said I'm completely healthy and normal again. Just because of whatever Alchemy and Savitar did to me doesn't mean that I can't still help-"

"But it means that you still need to be cautious," Barry sighs. I knew that he wasn't mad at me for racing out there; he was just worried about my safety, especially since he's on the bench and can't help.

"I don't think you're the one who needs to be preaching about caution," Cisco mumbles under his breath as he walks over to one of the computer panels. Barry tries to fire back a reply, but before he can, Cisco is flashing a camera view of Caitlin in the pipeline up onto the screen. "We put her in the pipeline for now. Not much we can do until she wakes up. If you need me, I'll be in my workshop."

Cisco quickly snags his glasses from the table before turning and leaving, Iris' eyes following him in a longingly manner. She quickly glances back to Barry and I as she starts to head for the door. "I'll go talk to him. Let me know when Caitlin wakes up, okay?"

"Will do," Barry says as she leaves the room, leaving the two of us alone once again. Silence fills the air as I throw myself into a nearby chair, placing my head into my hands. All I could see in my mind was Killer Frost; the one from my earth that is. I could see and remember how her eyes rolled back into her head as I had thrusted that icicle further into her, killing her. I killed her...not Zoom, not her own stupidity...but me.

"I heard what Caitlin said," Barry says faintly, his eyes glued to the floor. My stomach twists into a knot. I wasn't prepared to talk to him about it. "About Killer Frost...on your earth. Is it true? You killed her?"

"Of course I killed her," I shout suddenly, something snapping like a twig inside of my mind. "I shoved that icicle further into her, and I didn't feel anything. I didn't feel any remorse, not sadness, not anything. Just relief...relief that she was finally dead. I had hated her for so long, and I felt pride for being the one to end her life."

Barry seems taken aback, but he quickly shakes his head. "Raven, it's okay-"

"No, it's not okay!" I scream again, thrusting myself upwards from the chair I had been sitting in. "You don't get it, Barry. You always tell me that everything that I had done up until I met you wasn't me; that it was Hunter that was in my head. But that's not true. I might have been influenced by him, but it was still me that thrusted that icicle into her; it was still me who murdered countless people back on my earth. And the sad thing is...I did it on my own. Hunter wasn't there all of the time to put the thought into my head...I did it. I killed her, and I killed so many innocent people, Barry. You don't understand what it's like to have that memory plastered into your mind. I wish so badly that I could take it back, but I can't. I ruined so many lives..and it was all my fault."

Barry steps forwards as he rests his hand on my arm, shaking his head. "Raven-"

"No. I'm sick of everyone convincing me that everything that I have done is justified. It's not! None of it is. And no amount of good actions that I can do now will make up for it." I shake my head, feeling all of the blood rushing to my face in an instant.

"You're right, it's not justified," Barry suddenly says, taking me off guard.

I pause as I furrow my eyebrows. "What?"

He takes a step forwards, throwing his arms out. "You're right. If you want to be held accountable for what you've done, then so be it. I may not agree with that, but if it's what you want, then there it is."

We stand in silence for a long moment as I process his words, which completely took me off guard. As I think about his words, I realize that he was only saying those things so that I could calm down; so that I could get all of this out of my system.

"I'm sorry," I state suddenly, my eyes drifting to the floor.

Barry cocks his head. "For what?"

I pause once again before continuing. "What I did in the past might have been awful, but I need to stop dwelling there and look at the present; to look at what you all have given me. It's hard to tell where I would be right now if it wasn't for you, Barry. That's something to be thankful for."

A faint smile appears on Barry's face. "What happened with Killer Frost...it doesn't matter. Not anymore. You are a better person now, Raven. I know that you know that too."

I feel something churn inside of my stomach then, which happened to be that same exact feeling I get whenever Barry Allen does something to somehow make me like him even more than I previously did. It was the butterflies; those damn butterflies...

Suddenly, an alert goes off, breaking the moment between Barry and I. Our eyes flash towards the monitor quickly, finding that Caitlin was starting to wake up. In an instant, Cisco and Iris were back in the cortex, hopeful looks on both of their faces.

"Let's go get her back."

Barry's POV

Thousands of thoughts swirl through my mind as I stare at Caitlin lying on the floor, the only thing separating her from the rest of us being a cell door that she didn't deserve to be behind. Of course, my main worry right now was supposed to be Caitlin and getting her back, but I couldn't help but focus on Raven. Something was wrong with her; I had a gut feeling. There's no way that Alchemy and this Savitar character would help her without taking something in return...right?

"Hmm," I hear a low hum, which was coming from Caitlin as she starts to sit up, her eyes still burning an ice blue. "I guess I just needed a little sleep, didn't I? I feel a lot better guys...you can let me out now. I won't hurt you."

I cross my arms as we all stand completely still, not falling for her act. Raven shifts her pressure from the right side to the left as she scoffs, shaking her head slightly. "We're not idiots."

"You might be smarter than I had thought, but you're all still idiots," Frost says, her voice causing the hairs on my neck to stand. "I've gotta say Iris, that was one good shot. I know you didn't learn that from your mother, did you?"

Iris' eyes grow hard as she sucks in her bottom lip. I thought for a moment that she was going to fire back at reply to Frost, but instead, Raven reaches out and takes her hand, easing her. It surprised me to see how close the two of them had grown over the past few weeks.

"Alchemy can't help you," I finally say, changing the topic. "We can, you know that."

"Oh, just how you saved Ronnie? Eddie?" Frost spits back into my face, causing my stomach to churn. Remembering that they were lives that I wasn't able to save...it was constantly a thought on my mind. "You couldn't even save Raven...until you messed up the timeline and created me. You know, for a hero Flash, you sure let a lot of people around you suffer."

Raven glances over at me, and I knew that she knew that her words were starting to get to me. She was right...but this wasn't Caitlin. "This isn't you. This is the powers messing with your mind. You're sick."

"I'm broken, Barry." I lower my eyes to the ground for a moment, closing them. "But what do you care? You saved Raven. You got your happy ending...everyone else be damned."

It was then Raven's hand found her way into mine, and it was like her touch made all of her words go away. I knew that with her here, we would be able to face this; to fix this mess.

"So here's what's going to happen," Frost continues to say. "You will let me go, and I will leave you to your sad, pathetic lives. Isn't that what you wanted, Barry? To be with Raven? So let me go and you'll never see or hear from me again."

I shake my head. "We're not abandoning you-"

"You did this to me!" she screams back, her eyes flashing a pure white. Before I know it, Cisco is shutting the cell door, closing off the connection we had with her.

I turn around and face him, noticing the others starting to leave. Raven gives me a faint smile before following after Iris, most likely to talk to her about what Frost had said. "Do you have any idea on how to fix this?"

Cisco shakes his head. "It's like what Caitlin said...sometimes when things get broken, they can't be fixed."

My heart sinks as I watch him walk away, feeling nothing but pain. I did this to my friends...and I couldn't do anything to ease the pain that I had caused them. But I knew that we were going to get Caitlin back; we had to.

However, right as I start to head back towards the Cortex, an alarm goes off throughout S.T.A.R. Labs. I quickly realized that it was a breach alert, so in an instant, I flashed my way over to the breaching room, finding a big ball of blue light hovering there, waiting for someone to pass through.

The next thing I knew, Raven was here, along with Iris and Cisco. Joe soon followed, out of breath. "What's going on?"

"Someone is about to come through," Cisco breathes, running over to one of the monitors. Joe swiftly reaches for his gun and aims it at the breach, just in case. I narrow my eyes as I step out in front of the rest of them, ready to act if needed.

Suddenly then, a female figure jumps through the opening, her eyes wide in amazement. She had this dark brown hair, and she was wearing all black clothing. Her most noticeable feature were her eyes however, which were a bright electric blue.

"I made it," she breathes as she rips off her black ball cap, holding it in her hands.

I take a single step forwards. "Who are you?"

Before she can answer me however, her eyes are quickly scanning the crowd of us. It takes her a moment, but her eyes finally land on Raven, a bright look appearing on her face. It made me ask myself so many more questions.

"Do you know her?" I turn to Raven then, finding her eyes wide as can be. She simply nods as a single tear forms in her eye, licking her lips slowly.

"She's my mom."

WOMP WOMP, it's about time they finally met up again! Hopefully Hunter won't be around to make them forget again...

What do you think is going to happen next? How did Raven's mom end up on Earth 1?

I know I say this every chapter but DAMN I'm sorry for being like three months late. College has been kicking my ass so it's been hard to find time to write something that isn't for my composition class. I do hope you enjoyed this chapter though, and don't forget to vote and comment! It means a lot xx
