(REVISED) Chapter 4- Hypocrite
Third person POV
"This is the last location." Yuki folded the map and placed it into the inside pocket of her long, white overcoat.
The three stood at the perimeter and gates of the run-down location. Mado walked ahead of the two first with no hesitation, which they followed after.
"It's quiet." Amon muttered under his breath.
"Oddly too qui-" Yuki began, unable to finish her sentence.
*Crash*
From the old building in front of them, the rusted and wavy corrugated metal wall burst through. A huge force was left impacted at the wall and out came flying a person. Or rather a ghoul. The ghoul skidded back and collapsed at their feet.
'Suspect 696...' Yuki looked down at the ghoul and his severe and fatal wound.
"B-briefcases? What are D-doves doing here...?" Suspect 696 spoke with difficulty, his raspy voice rough and low.
"Seems like the waiting was worth it." Mado had laughter laced in his voice as he shrugged off his attention away from Suspect 696. "To fish the big ones they must use a pawn."
Yuki gritted her teeth. Her grasp around the handle of her briefcase tightened, and her eyes strained with stress. With a small exhale, she tried to relax her muscles and expression.
"Mado-san, that is..." Amon began.
"Jason." Mado clarified. "What is a big fish of the 13th ward doing here?" Mado pressed down onto a button on the handle, dropping the briefcase and revealing his quinque.
"S class ghoul, Jason of the 13th ward." Yuki furrowed her brows and opened her briefcase along with Amon.
Mado rushed in first, a psychotic-like grin plastered over his face as he jumped into the building's crashed entrance. He crazily swung his weapon around, but Jason would nimbly dodge every offense.
"Hah!" Amon jumped in and brought his quinque down onto Jason for him to dodge and jump up. Yuki shot a few rounds as Jason had jumped up, but he had disappeared in a moment of a single, quick blink.
"You are quite skilled." Jason leaned against a doorway with a grin, staring down the three with eyes that held no urgency or worry. "I guess I can entertain them for two minutes." Jason looked down at his watch with a casual tone.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't get close enough." Amon walked over to Mado's side, staring at the doorway where Jason disappeared.
'Two minutes to toy with us?' Yuki firmly pressed her lips and looked around.
"Don't worry. You can catch it with the next." Mado reassured and began walking towards the doorway with Amon.
"Behind you!" Yuki flinched. With one sword she changed it into a gun and shot at Jason while the other sword went in for an attack.
"Urk...!" Yuki crossed the gun and sword into an x shape in front of her, blocking the blow Jason took at her.
"Yuki!" Amon turned around with a gasp, unsuspecting Jason's presence. Jason swung his arm at Amon, flying him back out of the building. Jason jumped towards Amon and kicked him with a boost, making Amon crash backward into an old car.
"Someone who is easy to break." Jason intimidatingly stared into Amon's eyes and pulled out a pair of pliers from his pockets.
Mado and Yuki slashed downwards from both sides of Jason but once again had missed due to his quick dodges.
"Are you alright, Amon-kun?" Mado turned his back towards him as he eyed down Jason.
"Yes...!"
"Take a little breather." Mado ran back up to Jason, swinging his quinque up close. Jason countered back by fighting with his pair of pliers and his quick dodges.
"Here!" Yuki ran up to Amon and held out her hand. Amon took her hand as she helped him stand up straight. "For a bulky man, he dodges and reactions far too quickly..."
'Senior Daiki Fuse...' Yuki frowned and pressed down on her lip.
"Doh...!" Mado halted, a surprised expression taking over his crazy grin when Jason did not take another step back, which interrupted the flow of the attack.
Yuki sprinted back towards the fight and horizontally swiped both swords to shield Mado from a heavy blow.
"Urk...!" Yuki grunted and tightly gritted her teeth as Jason pressured the weight of his fists down onto her.
"Oh?" He looked down at her coat. "That brooch that belonged to that weakling investigator." Jason chuckled, which sounded casual but was greatly sinister-sounding to Yuki. Shivers ran down her spine and heat and anger rose up her to her head.
"Weakling?!" Yuki angrily scoffed and sprung her swords upward, knocking off his weight. She swung one after another, engaging in a full fronted fight. She clicked the sword in her left hand and shot at him as she distracted him with the sword in her right. But with his quick reflexes, Jason dodged the bullet as it grazed past his sidebur. He lunged at her and raised his pliers. When he brought it down, she jumped off to the side.
Mado appeared in front of Jason when Yuki jumped out of the way. Mado's quinque split into three's engaging Jason. The three tips flew behind Jason and connected into one sharp piece as it closed onto Jason.
Mado grunted as the quinque in his hand shook. Jason's rinkaku kagune shot out from his back near the end of his waist. The sharp kagune fought against the entrapment of the quinque and burst the three piercings into bits.
"Not bad." Jason taunted with a broad and sickly grin, but Mado paid no attention to his expression. His eyes were glued onto the now broken quinque.
"That's as far as you will go!" Amon shouted as he ran over and swung his heavy quinque down at Jason. Once again Jason disappeared from the spot.
"Time is up." Jason lifted his wrist and looked at his watch. "Let's play another time." He crouched down and leaped up into the air, disappearing from their eyes.
"Damn...!" Amon clicked his tongue and turned back to Mado and Yuki. "Are you guys alright?"
"I suppose..." Yuki sighed and brushed her hair back.
"Fine, but it seems like my quinque is broken." Mado lifted the handle of the shattered weapon. "Now then... What use might we have for this scum?" Mado turned his heel and leaned downwards at the doctor.
"...!" Yuki's eyes widened and choked back on words. Her body flinched when she saw the ghoul staring at a child's drawing with endearing yet saddening eyes.
"Wait...!" Yuki stumbled forwards, her eyebrows furrowing with tension.
"My, my..." Mado's eyes laid upon the ghoul's kagune with a sickly grin and fascinated eyes.
*Slash*
"S-sorry... Sor...ry..." The ghoul mumbled into the dirt when his bloody body hit the ground. His fingers twitched, hoping to grasp onto life. Unfortunately, the door to his life closed.
-----
The investigators and detectives soon arrived at the scene. They entered the grounds in procedure fashion, investigating the building and scene.
Yuki had left Amon and Mado, who was outside with the body of her suspect. She had already observed what she needed and felt the urge to investigate the doctor's home herself.
The other investigators and detectives showed no signs of disapproval of her arrival inside the building. They let her walk around the scene assuming that she already knows the procedures of how to now mess up with the evidence at the scene.
'I knew it... A room filled with objects that practically screams that he had a family...' Yuki sighed and ran her hand through her hair. She tied up her hair and glanced at the other investigators in the room as they dug around the room. She walked up to the window and looked down at where Amon and Mado were re-evaluating the doctor's corpse.
'How pitiful...' Yuki's closed her eyes, troubled. She reopened them and exited the building after observing everything she needed.
-----
"Pardon?" Yuki blinked her eyes and tilted her head. A short laugh of disbelief escaped her lips.
"They were also in on this case with Senior Investigator Daiki Fuse. They will be taking the lead on the whereabouts of the spouse and offspring."
"Sir, I was not informed of this when given this task." Yuki clenched her fists and hardened her expression.
"So it seems. Regardless, Ippei Kusaba and Yasutomo Nakajima will be taking this task. You did well on locating Suspect 696. I have some other matters to attend to."
"... I understand. Farewell." Yuki held back her tongue and bowed her head as the superior left.
Yuki was already back in the 20th ward. She returned with Amon and Mado, who were exchanged into this ward. Although she can be happy to be reunited with her friend and with a familiar senior investigator, she felt bitter after the mission just yesterday.
Mado took the doctor's body to the lab to customize it into a new kagune since his recent one had broken. Although it is standard that once a ghoul is exterminated their body would be extracted of their kagune to be made into a quinque, she felt reluctant that Mado took it. She isn't an experimenter like Mado.
Though she has no say about the system. After all, she is a part of this field of work and has been fascinated by quinques and will continue to be fascinated. They're oddly beautiful yet deadly. She is a human who has the tendency of being a hypocrite.
A/N
So I was confused as to if I should keep the setting in the 20th ward or the 6th ward, assuming that the doctor lived there acc to wiki fan pages (if you know who he is, you know :'0). That was until I watch a small bit of the anime for them to slap it in my face that it was the 20th ward lol.
But I will work around that! Hope you enjoyed the chapter~! ^w^
