(R) Epistle by Ivashkov20
REVIEW: ★★ (DNF)
Genre: Fantasy/Short Story
Status: On-going
Epistle is an epistolary fantasy novel written by Ivashkov20. A girl, by the name of Anjali writes a bunch of small letters to a distant cousin of hers.
The first impression that the title gave me was that the writer could have picked a better one for their story, something to pull the readers in. The book's cover also had me confused because the genre is Fantasy, but there were no elements on the cover.
While the story did have a slight air of intrigue and edge, the letters couldn't connect to each other in a smooth manner. In addition, the said letters were extremely short. My advice to the writer would be to write relatively longer ones so that the readers don't feel disconnected with the story.
Descriptions of the scenes were quite vivid, but the writer could've written them in a more realistic fashion. It was hard to keep up with the characters because before I even connected with them, the letters/chapters ended.
I understand that the writer is trying to create mystery so that the readers keep coming for more, but too much or too little of something is never good. Balance is the key.
I am a huge fan of epistolary novels, but this one was a DNF for me. However, it doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a go because this review is my personal opinion.
