REVIEW
The first connection I made when I read the first chapter, was "this kinda of reminds me of the book/movie If I Stay."
Right away, in fact in the very first moment, we get to peak into our main character, Ellie's, broken heart. Having been in her situation in real life myself, made it a lot more warming and real. And this writer, did that in only 3 paragraphs! Now I find that a little impressive.
But the first 3 chapters aren't about her broken heart, but the events leading up to it. Starting with something as horrying and simple, as a family financial situation, where moving across state may be the only choice. Not a huge conflict, but a simple one. However, even simple conflicts can change a life.
One line in particular, made me wallow for Ellie, when she told us (the reader) that her parents could no longer afford her violin lessons. And wondered if there were music schools she could attend in Arizona.
I'll have to read further to see if they do indeed make the move, and what Arizona has in store for Ellie, her brother Lou, and her family. Or if she must say a forever farewell, to her best friend Damon.
