Review For Enigma

*** This review is my first requested review of a book and it is outside the scope of books I have reviewed so far. This story is ongoing and based on the first 11 chapters. ***

<> Overview <>

Two girls. Two boxes. Both from a father they never knew. This book is supposed to be a mystery and you are the detectives. You are to piece together everything and figure out what is going on in the story. Now, let's get to the meat of the review.

<> Plot <>

I'll be honest, I've had a really hard time following the plot of this story, and there are several reasons for this. There are a lot of flashbacks within each chapter, and it has left me feeling disorientated when reading it because I cannot keep up with it. There's no time to be invested in either the past or the present because you are jumping back and forth sometimes every other paragraph.

Because of this, the plot has become muddled and I lose interest in what is happening, which isn't good. After 11 chapters I feel like things haven't really gotten started on the main plot point (the mysterious father) due to spending so much time on the two girls, their history, their background, and personalities. This in and of itself isn't bad! But in combination with so many flashbacks, the story feels bogged down.

<> Character & Character Growth <>

The two main characters are Ava and Winter, and I really wish I could tell you more about them and their character growth, but I can't. The flashbacks are used in an attempt to help you get to know them, however, I found this not to be the case for me. Things were far more muddled for me because of those very things because I'm seeing the girls as they were in the past, and how they are now at the same time. It's fragmented.

<> Overall Story <>

This story has some great potential that is lost in the flipping back and forth between past and present. I think that it needs a major edit and reconstruction of how the chapters flow once the book has been completed.

Flashbacks get in the way of the story and the flow of the plot. Putting the flashbacks into their own chapter would help tremendously.
