Review for Edge of the Knife Series Part One

NOTE:

This review will contain some major plot spoilers, so if you a not of fan of those then I suggest you stop reading this, read the series, then return.

I also apologize ahead of time for all the memes...I was inspired.

<> Overview <>

Where to begin? Let me first off tell you to take your heart out of your chest and lock it in a box Davey Jones style. Then, go and bury it on an island that no one can find, especially Sprinkles. Why? Because this series will seriously rip it to shreds.

I will break down the series into three parts because there is a lot to cover for this fantastic trilogy.

~ Edge of a Knife ~

<> Plot <>

The book starts off at Amon Hen with the Fellowship preparing to cross the lake. That's where what you know about Middle-Earth ends, and the world of MonsterCupcake and Sprinkles begins. She does a wonderful job of taking what we are all familiar with and turning it on its head, creating new Middle-Earth in the process.

Boromir ends up claiming the Ring and is almost thwarted by none other than the "Golden Child", who also happens to be the boyfriend of every other girl on Wattpad.

*tsk tsk* Leggy

But before he can stop him though, Boromir escapes and chaos ensues. The hobbits we all know and love are separated, and The Three Hunters are on the trail. But Sprinkles has other plans for our heroes. Instead of rescuing our beloved hobbits they are instead chasing after Boromir through Rohan. When they finally catch up to him, he wields the Ring and its power against them, taking them captive.

I'll leave you will that little cliffhanger.

There were so many plot twists that even I couldn't tell what was going to happen (something I tend to pride myself in). There were times when I was expecting one thing (based on the book or movie), and I was left trying to recover my cool reading composer, or sweeping up the shattered pieces of my soul because I kept getting blindsided by feels.

Once you start reading, you better be ready to commit the rest of your time awake to reading, because you cannot help but keep going. It's kind of like entering Shelob's lair; you can't go back, but all that lays before you is darkness, and you don't know what lies ahead.

<> Characters and Growth <>

<> Legolas

The most significant surprise came in the form of none other than Legolas, one of the most overdone characters in fanfiction. What I thought was a story about Boromir turned out to be just the beginning of a tragic tale for Legolas, which I must say, is one of the best stories regarding him I've read.

Legolas has a dark past that is teased throughout and slowly comes bubbling to the surface as the book progresses. Gone is the stoic and unemotional elf from the movie that you have no real connection too; in his place is an edgy Legolas with a dark side who is WAY more interesting. He actually has a personality!

*nervous laughter* Not that I didn't like you before!

*ahem* moving on....

<> Aragorn

He just has this look on his face most of the time:

But hey, we all love him.

<> Gimli

As usual, Gimli provides the much needed comedic relief throughout the story. He's the rock of the group in many cases, and you just help but cheer for him every time.

<> Boromir

His story is probably the most tragic out of everyone in the books. Having given into temptation, he becomes corrupted by the Ring, and he sets the events in motion that will be the ruin of all. No biggy.

<> Overall Story <>

Edge of a Knife will take you through a rollercoaster of emotions and leave you bereft of feeling when you're finished. You'll ask yourself, "Why am I doing this to myself? Is it worth all of this torture?". The answer is yes, yes it is.

Part 1 of 3

Next will be Return of the Shadow...
