Jeff has a problem. He is sure that he has some great and important duty, an almost legendary destiny, but he doesn't know what it is. Instead, he spends his time watching bad infomercials in his mother's basement - until destiny intervenes.

Fate literally comes calling in the form of a wrong-number telephone call that starts Jeff on a topsy-turvy quest to fix his mother's kitchen cabinets, help reconcile his brother Pat with Pat's wife, Linda, and, eventually, find the destiny that's waiting for him. Along the way we discover that, in spite of his apparent problems, Jeff is in fact the most responsible and "with it" person in his family.

This is a cute movie, but it does have some flaws. The camera work throughout draws attention to itself though jerky zooms and unusual pans. I found this off-putting. The sub-plot involving Jeff's mother (played by Susan Sarandon) is confusing and unsatisfying. Finally, Jeff's ultimate destiny required more foreshadowing; it would have been nice to see how the situation Jeff is involved in at the end reflects his own father's death.

On a positive note, the acting was good throughout, with a tone reflecting the light-hearted nature of this comedy.
