Chapter 2
Hitching the bag of material (such as food, water and clothes) further over her shoulder, Brittany acknowledged her surroundings. It was a wasteland, other than the large white hotel-like structure a few minutes walk away. The man, boy and woman from earlier were walking along side her, they too were viewing the scenery. The rest of her group had stayed silent, only talking when spoken to.
"What is your name?" the man asked. Brittany turned to discover he was attempting to converse with the other girl. It would be wise to learn what everyone called themselves instead of listing them off as 'the unknown'.
"Asher," she said, hardly acknowledging the guy. He was around her age, Brittany assumed. Yet her expertise when it came to the difference was quite slim. Perhaps early 20's.
"Mine's Nicolás, pronounced Nih-cuh-lus." Brittany smiled, at least he would be easy to remember, although her memory didn't work too well. His accent did assist further. "What about the rest of you all?"
"I'm Phoenix and this is Iris." She bit her lip, brother and sister? That wouldn't work well in the long run for them. Alliances could aid Brittany throughout the journey. It depended on the rest of her group. Startling at the sudden sound of rumbling, Brittany sought out steadying herself by wobbly legs and shaking arms. Following this action, everyone else fumbled for balance as an earthquake tested their ability to move. Nicolás was the first to fall, Brittany ensuing soon after. As a few minutes passed, the disaster halted and she could stand. What was that? She had never heard of something like this back home. Was this the only thing the developers weren't telling them? What if--
"Isis--" immediately, the girl corrected Asher. "--Iris, Nicolás, Phoenix and you, are you all alright?"
Brittany rolled her eyes, before providing them with her own name. Glancing up at the sky, she noticed it was morphing colours far too fast. A moment ago, the day was clear as glass. Now? Clouds were rolling over and the sun was fading. It seemed as if it were about to rain.
"Another thing you should know about this place; the weather can change quicker than paper would catch alight." Brittany looked over at Nicolás, he wore a guarded expression. No longer interested, she returned her gaze to the large building. Its structure was unique. Small columns held the roof atop the door and large arches accompanied the upper half. Forming an easier way to view through the motel. Brittany only hoped she was staying on the lower part. A building such as that collapsing would not work well in her favour, too. That then reminded her of the earthquake. Nowadays, buildings were much more resistant when it came to natural disasters due to the increase of advanced technology.

"There it is," Nicolás said out of nowhere. "The garage."
"Wow," Asher smiled coyly, "What a great advantage we have! Does this garage teleport us to the middle of Resurrection?"
"Well, unless you count buses as a mode of teleportation, then no." Brittany laughed, Phoenix too as the girl's grin replaced with a frown. Sarcasm. She and Asher would get along just fine.
Brittany proceeded to focus on what was ahead and stared at the vehicle with distaste. It looked as if it had gone through hell and back. Long scratches marked the side of the camouflage colour. It reminded Brittany of those old yellow school buses children used to ride. Along with that, it was as if they were to be on a safari, with poles on the sides at the higher half to hold the roof steady. She walked closer to examine it further, before wrinkling her nose. The smell was horrible, like wet grass or rain. The seats; old and contained no cushion.
"Why is there a driver's seat?" Brittany perked up at this, that was unusual. As she followed the others to where Phoenix pointed, she noticed that it had a wheel. "What even are those?"
Brittany pressed the small button and jumped back as music evoked out of it. How strange. Usually, she would ask for it. In this situation it seemed you required to do it yourself. How old even was this place?
"I'll do it," Brittany said, smiling. When no one responded, she explained further," I'll drive it."
"Do you know how?"
Choosing not to reply, she stepped up once more into the bus and hopped into the seat. Looking over at her group, she gave them a thumbs up and placed her hands on the steer. Everyone nodded, before moving away as Nicolás attempted to open the door to the back. Surprised that he hadn't protested, Brittany fondled with everything as she pursued the task of how to start the vehicle.
"Turn on," she ordered. Expecting it to do as she said, Brittany readied herself for the grumbling. Cars back home . . . It was not necessary to contain the skill of driving, vehicles drove themselves. Unfortunately, this bus was unlike any other and failed to obey her.
"Get the key you fool," Nicolás said from the back. Cheeks burning in embarrassment, Brittany fumbled for the object and searched for the hole of which it would be placed. She turned it and grinned as the bus started, before it stopped once more. She repeated this action many more times before it finally moved. Stepping on the pedal, she shoved her foot on it and shrieked as the bus crashed into the garage door. Forgot about that.
"With your memory and direction, I think it's better to walk on foot!"
Brittany rolled her eyes, "At least I actually got it started."
This was going to be a long ride.
----
Reaching the forest was a difficult task in itself, but having constant argument with the group in the back just about had her fuming. Brittany stopped the bus, it's screech probably warning every dinosaur in the perimeter of their existence.
"Level 3, Stage 0. W-we hope you had a g-great time in Resurr-r-rection."
Gasping at the announcement, Brittany searched for where it came from. When she did so, her face went pale.
There, hanging on it's last legs; was the speaker.
