The Break Up

Throughout the week Gideon had been on four more dates with Mabel. He remembered everyone of them with vivid detail. It seemed whenever Gideon left the shack Mabel always just happened to be there. For one of the dates he was on the way to the library when he just happened to bump into her which resulted in a detour to a local coffee shop. That date had cost him valuable time that could have been better spent researching the history of Gravity falls. Another time he was taking a walk in the park with Pacifica and guess what happened. Mabel Gleeful. The witch dragged Gideon away from Pacifica to go get ice cream which later ended up on Gideon's shirt. Gideon thought Mabel was a cool person, but he still had no interest in dating her. Whenever he tried to convey that he was uninterested in the local celebrity she would always find a way to convince him to go on another date with her. She was too controlling. In fact, Gideon was currently on his way to another date with Mabel. They were going to Greasy's diner. It was the first decision that Mabel had let Gideon make. Gideon was hoping that he could finally break off their relationship tonight. Usually Greasy's diner was empty, or only had a few people in it. The less people the less chance of Gideon getting pressured into going on another date.
Gideon entered the burger joint to find that the only people in the store were Mabel and two lumberjacks. 'Good all according to plan' Gideon thought to himself. He walked confidently to the booth Mabel was sitting in. That was when he noticed Mabel's attire. Imagine the most sleazy, slutty dress you can think of then multiply it by HOLY CRAP SHE'S ACTUALLY WEARING THAT IN PUBLIC! and that is the type of dress Mabel was wearing. Thirty seconds in and Gideon already wanted to turn around and leave. Nevertheless he had to finish what he started. He sat down across Mabel.
"You look......nice" Gideon said after deciding that it would be rude of him to say she looked slutty. Mabel gave Gideon one of her wide smiles. Gideon noticed that Mabel seemed distracted tonight. On second thought she seemed worried. She kept casting nervous glances behind her. "Is something wrong?" Gideon asked because he was genuinely curious about what had Mabel so spooked. All the time he had spent with her, and Gideon had never once seen her like this. Gideon was pretty good at figuring out people, and after his first date with Mabel he pretty much had her pegged. She was an overconfident girl that usually never showed any signs of weakness around people.
"Yeah, I'm fine" Mabel said shakily which indicated that she was most certainly not fine. Mabel looked straight at Gideon, but He knew that she was somewhere else completely. He could see the gears turning in her head. She was calculating something, weighing out two impossible options to an important decision. "Gideon I have something important to tell you" she said. Her voice was quiet.
"What is it?" Gideon asked wondering what question she was going to say.
"I know you have the journal". Those six words had made Gideon internally panic more than ever. Fear crawled into his heart. What scared him the most was that he had never suspected Mabel. She had played him so masterfully, like a puppeteer behind the curtain, but one question tugged at the back of his mind. Why reveal this now? Then his answer came. Mabel leaned uncofortably close to Gideon. "If you give me the journal, I can give you something too" It all made sense now. The pieces fell into place. She was wearing a slutty dress tonight because she was trying to seduce him into giving him the journal. Gideon felt anger swell up in his heart. He had been manipulated.
"No" He said firmly. The reaction on Mabel's face was instantaneous. She was shocked, and it showed. No guy had ever turned her down like that. She sat there slumped in her chair for several moments trying to recover from Gideon's response.
"Ok" she finally said, unable to muster up any words. The rest of their date was spent in an awkward silence that neither of them seemed interested in breaking. Near the end of the date a traveling basketball team entered the restaurant. This was something that caught Gideon off guard. Mabel asked if Gideon would go out with her one last time knowing that Gideon would be pressured into saying yes. It was Mabel's last chance to get the journal from Gideon without her brother interfering.

Gideon entered through the front door to see Pacifica was waiting for him. She looked to him her bright blue eyes staring at him with wonder. Gideon took his shoes off and plopped down on the couch ready to unveil what had happened on his date. Pacifica had always asked him what happened. She wanted to know whether he had broken up with Mabel or not. It was always no, just like tonight.
"Paz I don't know what to do! I really don't want to be dating yet!" Gideon said. He was exhausted by his constant failures to break up with Mabel. Pacifica still had no idea why Gideon wanted to break up with Mabel. Pacifica wished she could be swept off her feet by a prince charming. Dating should be fun!
"Why don't you like her?" Pacifica asked for the millionth time. Sure Mabel was a little clingy, but Pacifica still thought she seemed like a fun person to hang out.
"Paz she creeps me out, and tonight she tried to get me to do naughty things!" Gideon explained. Pacifica rolled her eyes, not able to believe how childishly naive Gideon was. "I just want to go back to having a normal summer"  He croaked. Pacifica thought she could see tears forming in his eyes.
"Hey if you want me to break up with her for you, I can" Pacifica said, not able to bare seeing Gideon so distressed. Gideon's expression immediately brightened.
"Really?!?!" Gideon asked with disbelief. Pacifica nodded enthusiastically. "Oh thank you so much Paz!" Gideon exclaimed, hugging her. Pacifica just hugged him back.

Mabel returned to the manor at midnight because she had been grocery shopping for her grunkle Stan. She walked in expecting everyone to be asleep, but she had no such luck. Dipper was waiting for her. She knew why. He wanted to know if she had the journal. Mabel dropped the groceries off in the kitchen, and changed her clothes into pajamas before meeting Dipper in their trophy room. Dipper often spent his nights studying his journal in this room, though Mabel was unable to fathom how he could concentrate when he was surrounded by disembodied monster heads. Dipper had ventured into the forest many times for research, magic practice, and sometimes he was just looking for a good challenge to keep himself entertained. He always brought the monster's body back, so he could dissect it then hang the head up as a prize. Mabel noticed that Dipper had lit the fireplace which illuminated his neutral face. Dipper sat in a leather recliner that had been turned to face Mabel.
"Did you get the journal?" the same question had been asked after every date Mabel had gone on. Mabel shook her head. She was lucky enough to get Gideon to agree to go on another date with her. Dipper turned away from Mabel and instead chose to rest his eyes on the fire. Mabel knew that he was in deep thought. "Are you positive I can't just kill him?" Dipper asked. Mabel was his only weakness. Dipper placed no value on anyone else other than his sister, so he could care less if he hurt or even killed any of the townsfolk. He knew Mabel had become attached to Gideon, and if he killed Gideon... Mabel would never forgive him. "What makes him so special?" Dipper asked bitterly.
"Well for one thing he is the only boyfriend I've had that didn't like me for my body" Mabel said. Dipper raised an eyebrow to that statement.
"How can you be sure? Boys are selfish animals ravaged by sexual desire. Some just hide it better than others" Dipper said smugly. Dipper had always been disgusted by the endless boys that Mabel had gone out with. He enjoyed helping Mabel torture them after she was finished toying with them.
"I tried seducing him tonight. I wore my best dress, and even made several suggestions, but he still refused to do anything with me" Mabel said, a firm look in her eyes. Dipper looked unimpressed. Mabel could tell he was unconvinced. He got out of his chair.
"Do whatever you want, just make sure you get the journal off of him" He said before leaving. Mabel let out a sigh of relief because she had been sure that Dipper was going to order her to kill Gideon.

The very next night Pacifica walked into the restaurant where Mabel had instructed Gideon to meet her. The restaurant was known for the impeccable seafood it served. Pacifica recalled Gideon telling her about ordering fish sticks on his first date. Maybe Mabel chose a seafood restaurant on purpose. Pacifica really did feel bad about Gideon breaking up with Mabel. Nevertheless Pacifica had to do it for Gideon's sake. She refused to watch Gideon suffer all summer. She walked around for ten minutes before she found Mabel. Mabel had been waiting patiently for Gideon, so imagine her disappointment when Pacifica showed up. On the outside she was confused, but on the inside she was seething with anger because this girl had come instead of her lil Gideon. Pacifica stood there awkwardly for a moment trying to figure out what to say.
"Hello Pacifica how have you been" Mabel spoke first. Pacifica smiled at Mabel's kind greeting.
"Good, thanks for asking" Pacifica responded. "Ummm, I'm afraid Gideon wants to stop seeing you" Pacifica said. She watched Mabel's face go from shock to sadness to anger before finally returning to a smile. Mabel's change of face only lasted five seconds total. The smile she wore was fake, and her eyes were as cold as a crocodile creeping up on it's pray. "I was rooting for you" Pacifica added noticing the hostile look Mabel was giving her.
"I'm sure you were. It's ok these things happen" Mabel said coldly. Pacifica felt uncomfortable under Mabel's threatening glare, so she turned to leave only stopping to bid her goodbye.
"Well I'll see you later" Pacifica said. Mabel watched her leave, and when she was gone Mabel let her mask fall off. She took her anger out by knocking over the glass of water she had been drinking.
"You've come between us Pacifica Southeast!" Mabel howled angrily. It took Mabel several moments to compose herself. Once she had gathered her self, she left ten dollars on the table and got up to leave. "Pacifica you will see me later, and then you will regret getting between me and Gideon" Mabel muttered the threat. It was a threat she promised to keep.
