Journal 3
They had been trudging through the forest for quite some time, and Gideon was starting to wear out. He had low endurance, because he wasn't much for exercise. Gideon's idea of a fun time was locking himself in his room and reading a book in bed. Pacifica was still bursting with energy, as she was at least ten feet ahead of Gideon, much to his dismay. Pacifica zipped around the trees with hopes of catching sight of animals, but unfortunately for her she was about as stealthy as a raging bull. The animals could sense her coming from a mile away. Gideon finally had to stop and catch his breath. He leaned on a tree hunched over with his hands gripping his knees as he wheezed.
"Wait up!" He called to Pacifica pausing to wheeze a little more. "Pacifica!" He reached out for her one more time.
"Gideon that tree is poisonous!" Pacifica exclaimed appearing behind him. Gideon fell over in shock.
"I knew we shouldn't have come here!" Gideon huffed angrily. Pacifica have him a mischievous smile.
"Relax Giddy" Pacifica said patting him on the head. "I was just yanking your chain" she explained before helping him onto his feet. Gideon scowled before responding.
"You shouldn't joke about something so serious! And don't call me Giddy!" He snapped. Pacifica just shrugged.
"Yeah yeah whatever" she said before she went back to walking aimlessly through the woods again. Gideon hoped she would be done exploring, so he could go back to his home for the summer. Pacifica walked a little slower so Gideon could keep up. She didn't want to have to explain to Bud how she accidentally lost Gideon in the semi-dangerous forest.
Pacifica was about to head back when she tripped on a twig that was sticking out of the ground. She ended up rolling down a steep hill. Gideon tried to grab her, but he missed which lead him to the same fate. When the pair finally stopped rolling Gideon stood up in a daze. 'I must of hit my head harder than I thought' Gideon mentally told himself after looking around to see that he was in a forest straight out of fairy tails. There were giant crystals popping out of the ground, and he saw fairies fly right in front of his face. 'Am I going insane?' He mentally questioned himself. Then Pacifica stoop up arching her back to stretch it out. Her reaction was significantly different from Gideon's.
"Oh wow! Where are we?" She asked with wonder. Suddenly the fairies froze in midair. They looked straight at Pacifica and Gideon with horror painted onto their faces. It was anarchy. The fairies rushed to get away from the human pair, and because of their haste they ended up running into each other. It didn't take long for the forest to be clear of the mystical beings. Once again Gideon and Pacifica were left alone. "Aww, I didn't even get to talk to them" Pacifica said disappointed at missing her chance to talk to real fairies. Gideon looked at her with puppy eyes.
"Can we please go home now?" He pleaded hopefully. Pacifica gave him a confused look.
"How can you want to go home after seeing that! Gideon fairies aren't supposed to exist!" She said as if Gideon didn't already know that. "Besides even if I wanted to go home now I have no idea where we are" Pacifica finished. Gideon slumped over against one of the mysterious crystals. This was just great, he had no way of getting home, and his only companion was clearly insane. "We might as well walk around, if we're lucky we might get un-lost" She reasoned. Gideon didn't know if she was trying to convince him or herself. Gideon was about to argue that what she had said was a stupid idea, but he didn't have a better one. Gideon slowly stood up.
"Okay lead the way" he said sarcastically. Pacifica gave him a warm smile.
"That's the attitude" she said ignoring his sarcasm. They continued deeper into the forest. It felt like they spent an eternity walking, but Gideon didn't want to get left behind so he struggled to stay by Pacifica's side. After ten minutes of walking Gideon had had enough.
"I'm done this is stupid, we're lost because you wanted to go on an adventure!" Gideon shouted angrily. Pacifica noticed tears forming in his eyes. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out. Finally she found words to say.
"Gideon I'm sorry I got us lost, but we can't give up yet. We can still find our way out" she told him using a soft, gentle voice. Gideon's scowl softened. He sulked over to a tree and sat down leaning his back against the bark. He was just sitting there when he thought he heard a mechanical sound behind him. Gideon jumped up and turned to look at the tree. "What is it?" Pacifica asked walking over to stand next to Gideon.
"I don't think that's a tree" Gideon responded dead serious.
"Well of course it is what else would it be?" Pacifica looked at him like he was an idiot. Suddenly The tree's "bark" moved aside like an automatic door. Inside the tree was a small compartment containing a velvet red journal. The journal had a golden six fingered hand on the cover with the number 3 pasted on it. Gideon grabbed it and started flipping through it. He saw pages filled with information on monsters that were supposed to be just myths and legends. Then he flipped to a page that had a map of the forest.
"Look Pacifica! We can use this to find our way home!" He exclaimed excited to get back to safety. Pacifica took one look at the map and immediately a smile formed on her face.
"Nice work Gid, let's get going!" She said ready to leave the forest.
"You're not going anywhere" a slimy voice from behind them declared.
