Vow Renewal

It was the 5 year wedding anniversary for Bob and Malina Floyd.

Their wedding had been a small family affair, mostly with just Bob's family in attendance and Carter for Malina. Mal was estranged from her family and moved around so much for work, she didn't have many steady friends. And it didn't bother her, not really.

At least, not until they had made their family with Dagger Squad.

Malina had more friends now, more family now. And she wanted to celebrate her love with them. The more she thought about it, the more she felt robbed of that experience.

So she sat down with her husband and they decided to do a vow renewal for their 5th anniversary. (Typically these happen for milestones such as a 15th, 20th, or even a 25th.)

Still keeping it small, they had decided to do a beach wedding, more boho style. They were such a laid back couple and they were already married. No sense in spending thousands for another one.

Bob was lucky enough to have his brother as his best man, once again. But this time he asked Rooster and Hangman to be groomsmen as well. They had all come a long way from their first meeting. These two had truly helped Bob break out from his shell without Malina present.

Of course, Natasha was the true hero in that story, but Malina had won her in the custody battle.

Malina had tearfully asked Natasha, Reyna, and Mari if they would be her bridesmaids. To which they all, of course, said yes.

Carter, however, had the most special job. He was their officiant. And since this was a renewal, not an actual wedding, he didn't need to be ordained, even by the internet. (Don't fact check me on this, just go with it!)

It was certainly a day to remember.

Mal's hair was in these beautiful braids, twisted into an elegant half up do that Reyna had perfected. Her dress, a simple yet flowy white gown that ended just below her knees.

The bridesmaids were in light blue dresses, all different styles to their individual likes and body types. The groomsmen had on matching vests, on full display since it was too hot for a full suit jacket.

Mari had enlisted the help of some of her friends, back in town from college, to get the beach ready. A series of Polaroid cameras had been purchased for the guests to take pictures of throughout the day. A little wall had also been places by the table for people to hang their favorites for the couple to have.

Malina didn't want a professional photographer for this event. She wanted everyone to have fun and make memories. And for her, this was the best way to do it.

Bob, for his part, was dressed very snapily in a suit to match his groomsmen, although he had a slightly different shade of blue, with a gray suit instead of black.

And even though Malina was already his wife, he was just as nervous today than on their actual wedding day 5 years prior.

Finally, it was showtime.

Now, since Mal's parents had long since passed and she walked the aisle alone the firs time, Bob's father had offered to walk her this time.

The Floyd Family had welcomed Malina with open arms and had loved her since the minute Bob had told them of her. He was honored to call Malina his daughter and wanted her to know that.

Carter stood at the front, tears in his own eyes, happy for his best friend. He watched as the bridesmaids walked down the aisle and as the dogs slowly trotted their way with flowers strapped to their backs. When Malina had made it to Bob, he began.

"We are gathered here today for the renewal of love between these two wonderful people. We all know how much these two love each other. But we are gonna hear it just one more time, so if you'd please have your tissues ready and try to keep your sobs to a minimum, that would be appreciated."

And just as he planned it, Carter got a laugh from everyone and a smack to the arm from Malina, although she was laughing as well.

He gestured to Bob to start. "Malina, I've told you this before. But from the minute I met you, I just knew you were something special. Maybe it was because you didn't care that I had accidently thrown my drumstick at you. Or maybe it was because, instead of blowing me off when I tried to apologize, you only laughed before taking my hand and never letting go. I can honestly say I don't know where I would be without you. You have changed my life in so many ways, all for the better. And I can't think of a single way I would want to spend my life, if it wasn't with you."

There were quite a few tears around them. "So I promise to continue loving and cherishing you, in sickness and in health, in richer or poorer, till death do us part. Always and forever, my love."

Someone handed Carter a tissue. He waved his hand at Mal, not daring to speak. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her own tears at bay before she began.

"Bob, I remember thinking there was no way the cute drummer guy from this band I was shooting was coming over to talk to me. I didn't care about the drumstick, I only cared that you looked like a lost puppy and it was possibly the most adorable face I had ever seen. And then I remember thinking, this is a face I could fall for. And while that scared me, you made me less afraid to fall. There has never been a moment I didn't have full confidence you would catch me. We could be apart for months, with you on duty and me traveling for work. And I would still never doubt you would pick up when I called, or answered my text as soon as you had a free moment. You changed my life when we met. You gave me security, love, a family. You gave me something I've been chasing since I was 18 and I could never be more grateful for it."

Bob was unashamed of the tears he was also shedding.

"So I promise to continue loving and cherishing you, in sickness and in health, in richer or poorer, till death do us part. Forever and always, my love."

Carter, a tissue still in hand, spoke his next part. "Well then, I think all that's left to do is kiss the bride. So I now pronounce you still married and Bob, you should kiss your wife."

He did just that.

The audience erupted in cheers laughing and happy for the couple that was so clearly very much in love.

But before the day could continue, Mal had all the unmarried ladies in the audience line up. She threw the bouquet.

And what do you know? Reyna was the one who caught it. Better hurry up Jake. She won't wait for this wedding forever. But that's a different story.

All in all, the day couldn't have been more perfect. The dogs were happy to frolick the beach, the married couple enjoyed the overwhelming joy coming from their friends and family.

And to think, this all started because of a marketing idea and a flyaway drumstick.

A daydream if I ever saw one that's for sure.

This was fun to write!! Since they were already married, I decided to give you something a little different. Now, I've never been to a vow renewal before. My parents bad considered it for their 25th anniversary but a) we didn't have the money for it and b) it was 2020. You know, April of 2020. So smack dab on the middle of lockdown.

But I honestly teared up a bit while writing their 'vows' so so sweet. I just want a love like this.

IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK??!!

But honestly, hope you all enjoyed! Stay tuned for some more looks into the future!

Bye guys!!
