All of these women are fancasts for a live action Kida, from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. As is Alexandra Shipp. 

Lewis Pullman, was born in 1993, so I was looking for someone around his age, which at the time of me searching these women, was 30. (By the time I am writing this, he is 31.) 

▪️Maribel Gonzales

I was sold on using Vanessa Hudgens as Reyna, so I wanted to find another Filipino or half-Filipino actress to play her younger sister, Maribel. Olivia is half-Filipino and half German/Irish. And since I was pairing Mari with Hawk from Cobra Kai, I checked ages. Jacob Betrand was born in 2000 (I am actually just over a month older than him). So at the time of doing this, he was 23 (now 24). 

▪️Because I wanted to lean nto both Vanessa and Liza's Filipino heritage, I had planned to write some dialog in either Spanish or Tagalog, but I don't speak either. I'm Italian/German, learned both languages but can barely speak either (I'm horrible at learning language) and didn't feel comfortable trying to write in a language I don't understand. I didn't want to do a disservice to the people and language as a whole, so the idea was scrapped.

Instead of Malina: 
-Isla “island” (gaelic) 
-Lorna “famous land”
-Maisie “pearl” Scottish form of Margaret
-Maeve “intoxicating” 

These are names I found used in Irish and Scottish culture, as Alexandra Shipp has that heritage, as well as American.

-Evangeline “bringer of good news” 
-Imelda “whole, universe”
-Gemma “gem, precious stone” 
-Indira “splendid” 

These are names I found used in the Filipino culture, as I was leaning into that heritage of Vanessa and Liza. 

▪️Carter “Cal” Callahan
He literally came out of me rewatching Maze Runner
▪️Had thought of pairing him up with Phoenix, but scrapped the idea as it would be too many relationships to keep track of 
-Mostly for me, lol

▪️Kinda wanted to rework Malina's family, so instead of them being dead or estranged, her family was going to be inspired by the show Ginny and Georgia. Specifically Georgia’s character being a teen mom to Mal and having a younger brother who would have been around the age of Mari and the Cobra Kai gang. And a step father like Paul. The biggest issues with this idea were: 

-I had planned everything already, so it would have been a massive overhaul

-I've never actually watched Ginny and Georgia and have been completely caught up on the show entirely through YouTube Shorts. 

-So there was too much to actually make sense. But in my mind, her family is mentioned and MAYBE has an appearance in a bonus chapter or two. But they wouldn't have had a lot to do with the actual storyline.
