Chapter 3

Bob was on a mission. (No, not the one he was recalled for.) Arguably, one even more important.

He couldn't tell the Navy that though.

Bob made sure to arrive on base early that morning. With no one yet there for his actual mission, he was able to make it to Cyclone's office. He knocked, hoping the Admiral was in and available.

"Enter," was called out.

Bob entered the room, as Cyclone looked up from his paperwork. He raised an eyebrow. "Yes, Lieutenant?"

"Sir, I have a request, well a question, for you." Cyclone gestured to the chair in front of his desk.

Bob sat down before continuing. "Sir, my wife is a freelance photographer and she was wondering if she could possibly come on base to take some photos. She has no problem working with the Navy to use any and all photos as promotional material and would sign any non-disclosure contracts required."

He stopped for a breath, but before he could continue Cyclone held up his hand. "What kind of photos are we talking? And what kind of access?"

Bob nodded. "Just some of the planes, maybe some of the less classified personnel. She doesn't want to step on any toes or cause any trouble. I told her I would talk to you but nothing was a guarantee."

Cyclone took in everything Bob just said. "I would be willing to meet with her to discuss this further. It could be a good opportunity for some new promotion, as you said." Bob nodded his head. "Is she available anytime this afternoon? I won't have another moment free until after this mission is over."

"Yes sir, she is. What time should I tell her? Oh, she also has a service dog, a diabetic alert dog. Is that an issue? Nala can stay at our condo if she needs to." Bob clarified for his C.O.

As far as Cyclone knew, there were no strict rules against medical service dogs on base. "I am available at 4pm. And her dog can come as well. I will need descriptions or a photo of them for verification at the gate however. And make sure to tell your wife that your dog must be wearing their service vest."

Bob got out his phone to find a picture he could give his commanding officer. He sent the photo to the printer. "I'll let her know. Thank you sir."

Cyclone acknowledged him before dismissing him. "I believe you have a class to get to, Lieutenant."

Malina had been prepping since the text came in. She had some of her work ready to present, as well as a few clients she's done work for before. Including other areas of the Navy and Armed Services.

She had all of her own credentials ready, as well as any certificates she had for Nala.

She pulled up to base about 15 minutes before her meeting. Rolling down her window, she grabs her ID. "I'm here for a meeting with Admiral Simpson."

The guards check out her driver's license and match it to the photo Bob gave this morning. "Go straight, take the second left and keep going until you see a ship statue. That's the entrance you want. Show the front desk this slip," he hands her said slip. "And they will direct you from there. Just a reminder, your dog must keep their vest on at all times and they must remain leashed while on base."

Malina took the slip and her license back. "Got it. Thank you for the help. Have a good day."

And from there Malina was on her way to the meeting that could give her a nice job.

She followed the guards directions and found her way where she needed to go. Showing the slip she was given to the front desk and next thing she knew, Malina was in front of the Admiral's office.

She knocked before getting her entrance. She held onto her folder and Nala's leash, before opening the door.

"Good afternoon, Admiral. Thank you for meeting with me," Malina said as she entered the office. Cyclone had gotten up to shake her hand and lead her to the seats.

"You have good timing, Mrs. Floyd. Your husband, Lieutenant Floyd gave me the basic rundown of your request, but there are still some things I would like clarification on directly from you. I can't just grant access to anyone," Cyclone begins, straight to the point.

Malina nods. "Of course sir. As my husband mentioned, I am a freelance photographer. I've done some work with the Navy before, as well as the Army and Coast Guard.

She hands Cyclone the folder she had prepared. "And here is a list of some past clients, in case you need references. I promise, I just want to take some photos. I've never had the chance to photograph the jets. My previous work with the Navy was all water based."

Cyclone takes a look at her work, as well as her references. He does recognize a name or two. "Well Mrs. Floyd, while I personally don't see any reason you can't do some work for us here, I will need to run this by my superiors."

Malina understands, this is what she was expecting. "Of course sir. I will be here as long as my husband is. I would be honored to work with you either way."

Cyclone stood up as Malina did and shook her hand again. "Well, hopefully I will be able to give you an answer by tomorrow morning. If given the go ahead, there will be some documents to sign. And you would be accompanied by base personnel at all times."

Mal gave him a polite smile. "Thank you sir. Should I leave the way I came out?"

Cyclone opened the door, gesturing to the man standing outside. "I do believe your husband is finishing up his training for the day, so you can wait for him outside."

Nala is standing just next to Malina as she perks up at the mention of Bob, but doesn't react otherwise.

Malina thanks him again before she is led out by the officer standing by.

It didn't take long before the detachment was leaving the building for the day. No one really noticed the extra person standing around until Coyote clocked the dog.

"Who's that? And the dog?"

Well, the team didn't have to wait long because Malina unhooked Nala's leash and let her run to Bob. He quickly got down to greet her as she happily jumped all over him.

As if she hadn't seen him that morning.

Seeing as the group didn't know the person or dog, some were slightly concerned at the purebred German Shepherd bounding towards them before entering a state of shock at Bob's greeting.

Malina is quick to walk over as well. She whistles for Nala before calling her. Nala responds and goes back to Mal's side, sitting patiently as Bob stands back up. He then goes over to greet his wife.

"Meeting go well?" He asks as he gives her a hug. Mal gives him a quick kiss before answering. "I'll find out in the morning, but I think it did."

Little did she know, her little kiss just sent the other aviators into another round of shock. But, surprise, surprise, Hangman is the first to snap out of it.

"Hang on, who are you? I'm so confused right now. What is the world coming to?"

Phoenix is quick to elbow the man in the stomach, making him double over slightly.

Malina gives a wave to the group. "Hi, I'm Malina. Malina Floyd."

Phoenix, glad to meet another woman, shakes her hand, prompting the question everyone was wondering. "You're Bob's...." She leaves it open, as to not assume their relationship.

"Wife, yes." Malina fills in the rest. "Been married 3 years now." Bob loops his arm around her waist, pressing a kiss to her temple.

Rooster is next to welcome Malina, along with Fanboy and Payback. Coyote and Hangman are in disbelief.

Baby on Board had a WIFE?! And one that looks like THAT?!

But before they can let anything slip, Malina is already gesturing to the car. "We should head back. Risky needs to go out as well."

And with that couple left the aviators to their own devices as they got into the car.

"Well that was too funny. I don't think anyone has ever surprised them like that. Especially Hangman," Bob started laughing as they drove away.

Nala was lounging in the back seat as Malina laughed with her husband. "Oh I can't wait to talk with your team. If they weren't expecting you to be married, they definitely aren't expecting me in general."

The couple make it back to their house fairly quickly, letting Risky out to do his business.

The rest of the night passed in the blink of an eye. And soon enough, the couple were climbing into bed.

Some light discussion about work was had before Malina sighed, just staring at her love.

"You have been my greatest muse from the moment I laid eyes on you."

Bob smiled softly at her. Kissing her gently, he responds, "That's a relief. I still outrank the dogs in photo numbers. Right?"

Malina won't meet his eye at that. "I don't?" she shakes her head. "Oh."

Mal laughs. "I still have plenty of you, don't you worry, baby."

And with that, she snuggles into his arms as he pressed a kiss to her head. They spend the rest of the night in each other's arms, basking in their love.

And obviously, Malina is gonna get permission for a photoshoot, so she just might run into some of our favorite pilots while doing so.

But that's all for now, so see you guys next chapter! Bye!!
