2--Team
I ran straight out of the zeta tubes and joined the rest of the team on the couch. They smiled at me. Wally ruffled my hair. "I thought you said you were gonna get a haircut?"
I shrugged and pushed Wally's hand away. Honestly, I liked having longer hair. Bruce would probably make me cut it before I went to school, but I was going to enjoy it while it lasted. "So what are you guys planning on doing?" I asked.
"Well, we were going to watch some tv, but nothing good was on," Artemis said. She was now cleaning her arrows, something, I noticed, she did when she was bored.
"Where's Superboy and Miss. Martian?" I asked.
"Downstairs," Wally said. "Supes is working on his bike and, you know how couples are, they're with each other 24/7."
Miss Martian and Superboy were now, without a doubt, going out. I also noticed how Artemis and Wally were getting closer, and I didn't know how to feel about that. I mean, I was happy and all, but...I couldn't help but feel a little jealous. Wally was my honorary big brother, and I hoped that he would still find time for me when him and Artemis start going out.
"I've got an idea!" Wally blurted out. "You wanna train together? I mean, I know Batman's been training you, and I want to see if you can finally beat me."
"What do you mean, finally?" I asked. "I beat you all the time!"
Wally laughed. "Oh, come on!" He grabbed me and lifted me up onto his shoulders. "Jeez, you're getting too heavy for this." He ran to the training room with me yelling to let me down. He skidded to a stop and I jumped down. He smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back and suddenly we were both laughing like idiots. I had been through so much hell in my life that I had forgotten what it was like to be a kid. Wally was trying to make up for the lost times since he was still a child at heart. We both needed each other so we could fulfill our wishes.
Wally recovered and stood, helping me up. "Think you can beat me, little man?" He asked.
"Oh, please," I said. "I've been trained by Batman himself."
"You say that every time," Wally said. "But you always land flat on your face. Loser...has to clean the other's room."
"Your room smells so bad, I'm pretty sure it's alive," I said with a smirk.
"Your room's not in tip top shape either." I shrugged. That was true. I had my own room at the mountain, a real room, not my cell, and I took advantage of not having a butler to clean up after me here. I didn't sleep over much, but when I did, we had prank wars, all nighters, intense pillow fights, eating contests (never won one yet), sparring matches and movie marathons. You wouldn't think watching a movie would be messy, but popcorn always got everywhere. It was a pain to clean, so I didn't.
"Hand to hand?" I asked.
"Why not?" Wally asked. "And to level the playing field, hows about I don't use my super speed?"
I smirked. "You're on!"
~
I spent the next three hours cleaning Wally's room.
Next time, I told myself. He'll let his guard down and that's when I'll strike!
I shoved the rest of the stuff on the floor under Wally's bed. He would have done the same if I had won. I grabbed the two garbage bags and put them outside his room, stretching as I went into the kitchen to join the rest of the team for supper. I walked into an argument between Artemis and Wally, nothing extremely out of the ordinary.
The team had ordered Pizza, which none of us objected to, not even Megan, who made most of the meals for the team. It's not that her cooking was bad, it was just that she would always burn something. I understood she wasn't human, but she should've gotten the hang of how hot the oven should be by now.
Wally noticed my entrance and smiled at me. "So, how was it?"
I shrugged. "I'll smell like trash for a week, thanks to you. You'd better watch yourself, West. I'll beat you next time and you'll regret ever making me clean your room."
Wally simply laughed at me. "Good luck with that. Let's eat, I'm starving!"
"You're always starving," Artemis said.
Wally smiled, "You say that like it's a bad thing." He grabbed three pieces of Pepperoni and a whole liter of Mountain Dew before sitting down on the couch. I grabbed a single piece of Sausage before following Wally. Soon, we were all sitting in the Living room, laughing and talking together.
Wally had just challenged me, Conner, and Artemis to a game of Call of Duty when Bruce called me, informing me to come to the Batcave. Two Face had escaped. I sighed, told my friends that I'd see them later and used the Zeta tubes to get back home.
When I got there, Bruce was already standing by the Batmobile. I ran and changed into my Robin uniform before joining him. The door had just shut and we were off.
Sometimes I wished that I wasn't as busy as my fellow team mates. They seemed to have a whole ton of free time, well, when they weren't on a mission or at school. With Batman training me, us going on patrol, and being Batman's partner in general, I hadn't been seeing my friends as much. Don't get me wrong, I love being Robin and all, but I was still just a kid. Wasn't it important for me to be with friends at this age? Okay, so being a former trained assassin somewhat stole all childhood innocence from me, but all I wanted was to have it all back. To be a kid. To have fun. Play video games, read comic books, watched horror movies was too scary for me to watch, go out to eat, waste money at the arcade, lazer tag, whatever Wally said he wanted to take me to. They all sounded like fun, but I was far too busy for them. I really wanted to talk to Bruce about it, but couldn't bring myself to. As much as he tried to be my guardian, he didn't understand kids. So I kept quiet.
