14--Finally

You've gotta be kidding me, I thought semiconscious. I finally escape Slade, we have a plan to capture him, we had it all planned out, and I get poisoned by some drug that's been in my body for who knows how long!

I tried to force my eyes open, but they were so heavy. I tried to move, but couldn't. Am I dying? Could they not save me. Is that why people are crying? Or is that me? I felt a slight wetness on my hand. The crying sounded like Megan. Oh, please don't tell me I made Megan cry. Wake up! You've gotta!

I forced my eyes to crack open and was engulfed by a wave of pain. I clenched my teeth and blinked a few times, getting used to the light. The first thing I did was take an involuntary gasp of air. Maybe I was close to dying.

"Robin!" Someone exclaimed, embracing me tightly. I blinked again and noticed Megan's arms tightly around me. "We thought you were gone!"

"What..." my voice was scratchy and it hurt to talk. I noticed that my entire team was here. They all had concern in their face mixed with relief.

"Black Canary says your condition is stable," Aqualad said. "But the drugs are still somewhere in your body. She said that you must rest and that she hopes to find a cure soon."

"I...almost," I blinked. "Deathstroke..."

"He didn't show up," Superboy said. "We think that he was planning on killing you."

"So no one...else could...have me," I forced out. That lead to a coughing fit. I tried to stop it by covering my mouth, but I ended up coughing up blood. I stared at it. This was bad. I couldn't die! Not like this. I had to make Slade pay for what he did to me.

The team was staring at the blood I had coughed up. Great. They probably think I'm gonna keel over and die any second now.

This was all interrupted when the door opened and Black Canary came in. "How's he holding up?" She asked. Then she realized I was awake. "So you've returned to the land of the living."

"I guess," I rasped out. "What...was that drug?"

Black Canary shook her head sadly. "We couldn't identify it. It must have been the main drug that Cadmus was testing you for. Thankfully, the test drugs in your blood seem to have cancel out some of the major symptoms, though if you hadn't immediately gotten help, the drug was strong enough to stop your heart. We had to shock you a few times to bring you back."

"What about...Slade?" I asked.

"There's no doubt he's still coming," Black Canary said. "He must know the drug failed so now he'll be coming to finish you off once and for all."

"A-are more people...going to be hurt...because of me?" I asked. "B-because if they...are, I would have...rather died."

The team all gave me shocked looks. I tried not to make eye contact with any of them. Black Canary simply shrugged. "I don't know, Robin," she said. "But he is coming and we will fight to protect you."

"You don't need to-" I was suddenly cut off by a wave of pain that went through my abdomen, which felt like a stab. I gasped in pain and doubled over, arms clutching to my stomach as if it could sooth the pain slightly. It didn't and I felt like I was going to throw up. I was surrounded once more, a hundred questions coming at me all at once. I groaned and squeezed my eyes shut. A bucket was shoved onto my lap and I emptied my stomach. I hadn't eaten for a while, so I was mostly gagging, but the acidic taste was still in my throat. I layed back down, breathing heavily. There was no way I could fight Slade in my current state. It wouldn't even be a challenge for him to break my neck. I closed my eyes and noticed how much I was sweating. It was like I had a fever or the flu. Someone took the bucket and Megan was asking me what she could do to help. I just shook my head and a sudden shiver went up my spine, despite the sweat running down my face. Somebody tipped my head up slightly and forced water down my throat. It got rid of the acidic taste and cleared away the rest of the vomit that lingered in my mouth. I opened my eyes to see it was Kaldur. I thanked him between sips.

I was suddenly overcome with exhaustion. I guess almost getting killed can be a little tiring. I could barely keep my eyes open as Wally was ranting about how they were going to kick Slade's butt. I hadn't really been listening very closely and my eyes were already half closed. Black Canary cut the speedster off and told the team that they should let me get some rest. I almost missed their goodbyes and drifted off to sleep as the door was shutting.

On the day Slade came, everyone was ready, except for me, of course. I tried to convince Bruce and Canary that I was fine and could fight, but that ended by me puking up blood all over myself mid-argument. Not my finest moment.

Now I was stuck in bed, forced to listen as Slade fought the people I adopted as my new family. If they did manage to stop Slade, he'd be put in either Arkham or Belle Reve. However, villians seemed to escape from there all the time, so I hoped that my death was quick.

Wally, being the friend he was, had snuck me my utility belt so I wasn't totally defenseless. He was going to bring me my Hologlove so I could see how the fight was going, but the technology would've messed with the machinery keeping me alive at the moment. I was just happy to have my weapons on me. Facing Slade with absolutely nothing terrified me.

Suddenly, the alarms went off. The lights flickered a little. Then silence.

Slade had arrived.

I almost feel bad leaving a cliffhanger since I probably won't be updating anytime soon, but I couldn't help myself.

Sorry if this is crappy or seems rushed. I've got major writer's block with this story and I'm really trying not to copy other fanfics I've read.
