A/n this is Danny's Pov of what he and Quentin were doing

Danny's Pov

I sighed as Quentin led me over to a bed, pulling the curtain closed and staring down at me, "so, off with the shirt," he stated, I felt awkward as I slowly pulled it off. He was dead silent while looking at me with uncertain eyes, he grabbed my arms and gently raised them, looking at an imprint left by a branding iron, "it takes a soulless being to be able to do this to another human," he growled, releasing my arms, then looking over the rest of me.

"Um s-sir?" I asked softly, "hm?" He hummed, going to a shelf behind the bed and grabbing multiple bottles, each filled with a strangely colored liquid, "what are you exactly? If you don't mind me asking," I asked, messing with the blankets on the comfortable bed, "what am I? You mean hybrid-wise?" He asked, I nodded, "I'm half mudkip, but they went extinct long ago, shame really," he stated, "o-oh," I shifted awkwardly at his statement, how can someone be that comfortable while saying that a creature died out? Let alone a creature who's blood they now share, he looked at me and chuckled, "it's not as depressing as it sounds, just because my 'species' is almost completely dead doesn't mean I'm alone," he stated, mixing some of the liquids, "what do you mean?" He smiled slightly, but didn't answer, I cringed as something caught the light and shined it into my eyes.

He smiled, then gestured to a necklace chain tucked away in his shirt, "here, drink this," he said handing me the mixture- and interrupting my thoughts on the matter- , it had a reddish-pink hue and bubbled quite oddly. I downed the liquid quickly, expecting the sickening taste of a potion, but instead being met with a sweetened taste, kinda like chocolate strawberries or maybe cherries? I couldn't tell, all I know is it was sweet. I licked some excess off of my lips, making the man in front of me chuckle, "heh, that's typically people's reactions to that, I'll tell you some likely side-effects of the potion while you're still here," "what do you-" "not important, anyway, you'll probably start to feel bubbly, warmer than usual, dizzy, confused, and there's a slight chance you may faint," he stated, "wh-what?!" I asked, "calm down, it's very rare that fainting happens," he explained. I sat awkwardly for a few minutes while he went to a shelf and skimmed over a few journals, "here we go, now I can start with my questions," he smiled, "questions?" I asked, "of course, if you're gonna be staying here I'd like to know about you at least a little bit," he stated, "why should you have to know anything about me?" I asked, I knew of the leaders and the fact that they simply wanted to protect the people of this world, but that doesn't mean that I should just roll over and accept everything they say.

"Because I'm a doctor?" He said with an unsure tone, "doesn't mean you need to know stuff about me," I deadpanned, he stared at me for a moment, as if waiting for something, but what? My answer came in the form of a giggle, a warmth began to wrap around my body and sent me into a state where the world became nothing more than warmth and joy. "Danny? How do you feel?" He asked, but his voice was more distant, but still there? Like I could hear and see him, but at the same time I couldn't.

"I feel, weird," I said, starting to giggle, "but an amazing weird!" I smiled, he looked shocked, "maybe you drank too much of that potion, I've never seen this type of reaction to it," he stated, I giggled, "well I like it! It's warm and- hehe," I didn't finish, instead I just started playing with my tail. "Hm, how comfortable are you with me right now?" He asked, "as comfortable as an angel on clouds," I said, a dazed look on my face, internally I was screaming, I could see as feel what my body was doing, but I wasn't doing any of it! What did I stupidly take that damn potion?!

"Okay then, I'll give you something to make the potion wear off soon, but for now," he opened the journal, writing a few things in it, then walking over to me and sitting on the bed, "okay, how long have you been a hybrid, that you know of," "as long as I can remember," I said smiling slightly, "have you ever had any major illnesses?" "Not that I know of," "okay, why do you trust Jerome, but not the rest of us?" He asked, "Jerome's been my idol since I was little, I looked up to him, he was the only hybrid I knew of who'd been able to rise to the title of general, he was a light for me when I was lost," I smiled distantly, now I wanted nothing more than to die. I had just spilled my guts about a stupid crush to a guy I barely know! Who happened to be friend's with the guy I had a crush on, just great!

"So you're crushing on the Fluff ball? There's a new one," he said sarcastically, "huh?" "Danny, lots of recruits admire us, hell we get letters from these admirers, it's nothing new," he said softly, patting my back which resulted in a small squeak, "whoops, sorry bud, didn't mean to hurt you," he said smiling, "here, this'll take the effects away, don't want you spilling every secret of yours to Jerome now do we?" He smiled, handing me another vile, only partially filled this time. I drank the liquid, feeling the classic bitter taste of a potion, "there now the effects will be gone momentarily," he stated, I could feel the potion's effects slowly draining from my mind, leaving a mess of a hybrid in it's wake.

I curled my tail around my small form, my ears folding back in embarrassment, why? Why couldn't it have just been poison?! That'd have been a nicer torture! "You alright there Danny?" He asked, I whined and shook my head, "what's the matter?" "Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that I spilled my guts to some random guy I just met, and it was all because of a stupid potion!" I growled, he flinched at my growl, which was odd given the fact I'm as intimidating as a newborn kitten.

"Listen," he said, straightening himself, "I know it's- uncomfortable, to say the least- to have admitted that to someone, but perhaps I could compensate for it," he said, his face gaining a pink tint,"I don't just sleep around ya' know," I stated, his eyes widened. "That's n-not what I meant!" He shouted slightly, looking panicked, "I-*ahem* I meant that I could share something personal like that with you," he said, oddly messing with the necklace chain. "I guess that'd make me feel a little better, but I doubt it's more embarrassing than a random, childish crush," I stated, he smiled softly with his eyes closed, taking off the necklace and handing it to me. There was strange beading hung on the necklace, one on each side of a locket, one resembled a Lilly pad, the other was a white,red, and black ball, I reached out to open the locket, but stopped and looked up for permission, he smiled at me and nodded.

When I opened it I was surprised to see someone who I had seen walking around the castle quite frequently since I got here, he was usually accompanied by the leader BajanCanadian, or Mitch, "what's his-"Well his 'leader name' is Kermit, but his actual name is Dakota, but I call him D," he stated, a small blush forming on his face, "are you two-" "a couple? Yep, but we prefer others not to know about it, since some recruits tend to get a little 'threatening' when one of us are in a relationship, so imagine if they saw two of us dating each other," he said, "well I for one think you two make a great couple," "even though you've never seen us together and have no idea who Dakota actually is?" He asked, "u-um- well- uh-" he started laughing softly, "it's alright, I'm just teasing, calm down," he smiled. I handed the necklace back to him, and he quickly tucked it in, "okay, now that you're not under the effects of a potion, I feel more comfortable asking this," "huh?" I tilted my head, "why did you agree to stay here?" He asked, "well where else would I go? In case you forgot, us hybrids are thrown out into the streets the second others see us," I sighed softly, "still, you could have left a day after coming here, what made you want to stay in a kingdom that's at war, you realize people die here, right?" He said, for the first time I heard desperation in his very calm voice. "W-well, Jerome spared my life, and I kinda owe him since he saved me," I stated, "so you're gonna risk your own neck for someone who you believe 'saved' you?" He asked, "w-well yeah," "you realize that's the basis of the slavery that we hybrids have worked our butts off to get free from, right?" He stated, "wh-what?! I'm not-" "yes you are, you're rationalizing it, exactly what 'masters' do, they claim to be saving us then make us their obedient pets as payment," he stated, an angry tone hanging in his voice.

I was quiet after that, not wanting to admit the painful truth, I was turning myself into his pet. "Listen," my ears tilted in his direction, my head not moving, "I get it, you want to do anything to thank him for helping you, but you shouldn't do that by turning yourself into the one thing all hybrids hate, understood?" He asked, I nodded. He was quiet for a moment, just staring at me, "Danny, if you need an-" "Hey Q?" We both turned to see Jerome looking a tad worried, "hm? Oh! Are you and Seto finished talking?" "Sorta, I actually wanted to ask about something I noticed, privately," Quentin nodded, standing before turning to me, "Be thinking about what I asked," I nodded softly, not trusting my own voice. I was allowing myself to become a servant once again, but this time it felt so different, for once I wasn't being forced to do things I hated, it was all being done of my own free will. I actually wanted to protect these people, they welcomed me in with open arms- even though they seemed very uneasy at first- I was becoming a trusted friend of the guy I'd had a crush on since I'd laid eyes on him, was this all really just me rationalizing myself becoming a pet? It can't be, I refuse to go back to that life, I will show I'm equal. I'll show them exactly what a pathetic little hybrid is capable of.
