Chapter Seven
"We've got to go find Chase and Katie!" Ryder yelled.
"Ryder..." Marshall said.
"I swear if Humdinger did anything to them-"
"Ryder..."
"I'll give Humdinger a piece of my-"
"Ryder!" Marshall yelled. "Hold still! You keep ripping your stitches out."
"Sorry, Marshall. We need to hurry."
"Do you want to save them or not?" Marshall asked, patching Ryder up.
"What do you mean?"
"All of us pups have jobs to do. If you don't let us do our jobs, than we can't focus. Now, when I'm finished here, I want you to lie down and rest." Marshall finally finished stitching Ryder's mouth. "There. Now don't talk to much or you'll rip them out again." Ryder nodded. "I have to check on Skye. I'll call Rocky and have him stay with you."

Marshall shook his fur out and sweat flew in every direction. "Phew," he said, taking off his mask.
"How is she?" Rubble asked.
Marshall looked up to see Rubble's concerned face. He turned away from his to remove his bloodstained gloves. "She's stable." For now, he thought.
"And Ryder?" Zuma asked.
"They both needed stitches, Skye more than Ryder," Marshall said. "She put up a good fight against that Chase-clone."
"Marshall, did he bite you too?" Rubble asked, pointing to his shoulder.
Marshall turned his head. "I didn't even notice. Either of you know how to stitch?" Both pups shook their heads. Marshall sighed. "Zuma, go watch Ryder and send Rocky out." The water pup nodded while Marshall gathered his things. Medical pup can't even treat himself, he thought picked up the needle.
"Hey, Marshall," Rocky said. "Did you need something?"
"I need someone to stitch my shoulder and you're the only one that knows how to do it."
Rocky froze. "B-but, I've never-"
"I need you, Rocky. I can't do it myself." Rocky gulped and nodded. He carefully took the needle from Marshall. "Just do it quick, okay?" Marshall whined. Rocky shoved the needle into Marshall, who was biting his tongue. Soon, a numbness took over the pain. "Alright, now take the stitching needle and start patching me up. The numbness only lasts a few minutes." Rocky slowly pushed the needle into Marshall's fur, the thread following. He continued stitching Marshall up until the dalmatian began whining and moving around.
"Marshall, hold still!" Rocky said.
"The numbing is wearing off, you've got to use more!"
"If I use more you could pass out, just hold still." Marshall whined and nodded, biting his lip. Rocky continued stitching him up. Tears hit the floor as Marshall fought to cry out. "Done!" Rocky said as he finished.
"T-thanks, Rocky," Marshall said, giving the mixed breed a friendly lick. He looked at what Rocky did. "You're pretty good at this. You should consider getting that training Katie was-" The two pups looked at each other.
"Chase and Katie!" Together, they bolted up the stairs and into the main part of the Lookout.
"PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!" Marshall said. The other two pups available ran in while Ryder walked in behind them. "Ryder, I told you to rest."
"I'm part of the PAW Patrol too. I can help." He walked over to the control panel.
"Pull up Chase's collar." Ryder nodded, pulling up a map which showed a blue police tag. "Alright, according to this, Chase's collar is still at the hospital."
"That means Chase is there too!" Rubble said. "Let's go!"
"Wait a minute, Rubble," Zuma said. "Just because his collar is there doesn't mean Chase is wearing it."
"Zuma's right," Marshall said. "Humdinger could be setting up a trap for us. Why else would he replace Katie and Chase with clones?"
"He's planning something, alright," Ryder said. "Revenge."

Katie jumped as something hit the cage floor hard. "Roger?" she said.
"Hey, Katie," he said, rubbing his head and groaning as he sat up.
"What are you doing here? I already gave you more than enough blood." She heard the cage door lock and suddenly realized. "You're a prisoner too?"
"Looks that way. Humdinger decided he didn't need me and locked me up with you two."
"Two?" Katie asked. Roger pointed to a corner of the cage. "Chase!" she yelled as she ran over to him. She picked him up carefully. He had lost a lot of weight. She noticed the stitches on his head and back. "What did you do to him?"
"Humdinger is trying to figure out how to make them talk."
"Them?" Just then, the door opened. Humdinger stepped inside, smiling as mischievously as usual.
"Yes, my darling," he said. "Them." Into the room walked two familiar looking pups.
"Marshall! Skye!" Katie yelled. "Get out of here! Go get help!" They looked at each other and laughed along with Humdinger.
"Katie, you're so funny," Marshall-clone said.
"Hilarious, even," Skye-clone said.
Katie gasped in horror. "How did you-"
"-Manage to clone more pups?" Humdinger finished for her. "It was simple really. Chase-clone is programmed to take some DNA from the other pups through a bite. Skye put up a good fight."
"You're crazy! How could you injure all these poor pups?"
"I made it very clear to Ryder months ago. I wanted an army and there is nothing that can stop me from getting my army." Humdinger gestured to the clones who filed out. "Guards, make sure they don't get fed tonight. Especially Roger." Roger glared at his brother and sulked in defeat. "Sweet dreams," Humdinger said as he left.
"I'm such an idiot," Roger said. "Why did I even agree to help him in the first place? I didn't know it would be like this."
"What do you mean?" Katie asked.
"Humdinger said he was just going to get the DNA and rough you guys up a bit. I didn't imagine any of this. But once he captured you and Chase, there was no stopping him. He's taken complete control of all my resources." He looked at Katie solemnly. "I'm so sorry."
"I forgive you. I can't say the same for Ryder and the pups." She held Chase a little tighter, feeling his slow, gentle heartbeat against her hand. "Wait a minute," she suddenly said. "Hold him for a second." Roger held Chase while Katie fished his collar out of his pocket.
"The guys in the lab were wondering where that went," he stated.
"I kept it because it has a communicator and a tracking device. This is are only chance of getting rescued. I contacted Marshall and Skye yesterday, but it cut off." She eyed Chase's neck curiously. "I wonder..." She secured the collar around Chase's neck and it began glowing. "It's works! Hello? Hello? Can anyone here me? Hello? Hello? Anyone?"
***
"Alright, here's what we know," Marshall said. He gestured towards Ryder who nodded, pulling up a sidebar. "Katie and Chase are trapped somewhere in the hospital, probably the basement or underground bunker. Humdinger's guards are disguised as nurses and security throughout the hospital. Humdinger has clones of Chase and Katie running around Adventure Bay."
"But how did he do that?" Zuma asked.
"He probably got their DNA," Ryder said. "Maybe Chase-clone and Katie-clone were sent to get more."
"That explains why he attacked Skye and I," Marshall said. "In any case, we have to be careful about our movements."
"So how do we get them out?" Rocky asked. "Those guards probably have weapons and armor. We don't have any of that!"
"Actually," Ryder said. "Mayor Goodway gave us a lot more than you pups think. Follow me!" Ryder started walking towards the elevator when a distorted voice came through the monitor.
"He-llo? Can- hear? -lo? He- Any-"
"What was that?" Zuma asked.
"It sounded like Katie!" Marshall said, running over to the control panel. "Katie? Katie, the connection is rough! Can you hear me?"

"Katie?"
*static
"We lost the connection," Marshall said glumly.
"At least we know she's okay," Ryder said. "Come on. You guys are going to need better pup packs for this mission." Together, Ryder and all four pups went down the elevator to the basement.
"Wow, I didn't know this was down here!" Rubble said.
"No one does," Ryder said. "Mayor Goodway said it's for emergencies only." He paused to turn on the light switch. "Pups, welcome to your arsenal." The pups all awed at the sight. Spread out in front of them were brand new vehicles and corresponding pup packs. They were all color coded for each pup. There was even a white snow mobile for winter missions. "I know you aren't trained on these yet, but I bet you'll need them now." Ryder walked up to a dark-blue pup pack and a dark-red pup pack and handed it to Marshall. "Marshall, as second to Chase I'm counting on you to learn how to use his pup pack on top of knowing how to use your own equipment."
"Yes, sir, Ryder, sir!" Marshall saluted, taking both packs.
"The rest of you, start training. I'm going to check on Skye and see if I can talk to Katie." The pups barked, running to their respective pup packs. Ryder walked back to the elevator but paused before hitting the button. He looked to Marshall who was studying Chase's pup pack. He looked up to see Ryder staring at him and nodded. Ryder nodded back. "Humdinger, you're going down." The elevator closed, leaving the pups to train.
Author's Note:
Will Humdinger go down without a fight? Or will things take a turn for the worst for the PAW Patrol?
And what about Roger? Has he had a change of heart, or is something else going on?
These questions and more will be answered later in the story, but feel free to leave your guesses in the comments! As always, thanks for reading!
