Chapter 5 (Edited)
I sang along to the music that was playing from my phone as I finished getting dressed by putting on my heels. I'll probably regret it later since I didn't even break it in and I'll most definitely be feeling the pain by the end of the night with blisters making it unbearable to walk. I wish it could be easy to wear heels and sometimes shoes. My god are they painful sometimes. The things I do because the clothing looks nice. Damn the temptation.
Today I was supposed to be going out with Dillon. Felt like forever waiting for this day but it's finally happened and I'm a nervous wreck on the inside. Music helps calm me so I don't freak out, especially in front of Dillon when he arrives to pick me up in an hour. Sarah messaged me that she would be coming over soon with Ricky and Chloe. Thank god, my saviour despite being my enemy at Truth and Dare last week. The three are my moral support tonight.
Luckily I'm not the only one that's a nervous wreck, Sarah let it slip that Dillon was also freaking out. I'm also lucky I'm even able to go. After telling my parents the next day when he asked me, my mother got excited and kept repeating 'my daughter is growing up' while my father had an instant scowl on his face, the disdain on his face clear and it was directed at Dillon. He told me I couldn't go but my mother came to my rescue by convincing him to change his mind even though he's not happy about it.
The doorbell rang a couple of minutes later but I didn't move from my bed; I'm way too lazy. I yelped when my door was thrown open as the three strolled in. I huffed and rolled my eyes before throwing my pillow at Sarah who entered first. She gasped, acting offended before chucking the pillow back at me but I was lucky to dodge the oncoming attack.
Ricky and Chloe layed down on the floor while Sarah jumped to sit next to me on the mattress, almost making me fall off if I hadn't caught my balance on time.
"Seriously Sarah?" I complained. Sarah looked at me and shrugged.
"Not my fault," she said.
"If I ever get hurt because of you, I will make sure you suffer the same fate, my friend," I threatened.
"Lies, blatant lies, you will never hurt me," she said smugly. Chloe was quick to grab the discarded pillow of mine to chuck at Sarah. She fell back onto the bed and coughed before frowning. "Rude!" Sarah exclaimed.
"Love you!" Chloe laughed.
"I hate you, I do, I really do," Sarah grumbled as she sat up.
"Stop crying," Chloe teased.
"You're so dead, just you wait," Sarah threatened.
"You both act like children," Ricky chimed in.
"Then I'm worried about what kind of child does this; society has truly lost its way," I joked.
"Smartass," Ricky mumbled. I stuck my tongue out at her. I then winced when she kicked my shin. "That's for being rude." I rolled my eyes.
Soon the subject changed to tonight and my date with Dillon. Apparently, I'm supposed to tell them everything and I probably will, after I tell Amanda of course. I didn't notice the time go by until the echo of the doorbell brought me back to reality, that it was time to face my fears.
"Ready?" Sarah asked with a smile. I nodded and followed her and the others out the door. I noticed Dillon standing at the door, running his hand through his hair and taking deep breaths while he held onto a bouquet of tulips. My eyes practically lit up at the bunch. I already know where I'm going to place them in my room.
"Well, whom may these flowers be for?" I questioned with a sly smile. Dillon looked up and his eyes widened before the corners of his lip turned upwards.
"For you, of course, m'lady," he joked as he bowed, extending the bouquet towards me. I chuckled and shook my head. I took the flowers from him.
"Thank you," I said. He straightened his posture and nodded.
"Ok, well, we must be going now but remember to let us know how it went," Chloe said.
"We'll be waiting to hear all about it," Ricky grinned.
"Don't hurt her," Sarah threatened with a glare. Dillon raised a brow as she gave him the 'I'm watching you' signal before leaving with Ricky and Chloe.
"She's a terrifying little thing," Dillon muttered.
"She's your sister," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Evil," he jokingly whispered. I slapped his arm lightly as he laughed.
"I'll be back, I just want to put this in my room," I said. He nodded before I walked into the kitchen to get a vase.
I put the tulips into the water-filled vase before heading upstairs and into my room to place it on my nightstand right next to my bed. I smiled at how beautiful and colourful the bundle of tulips looked.
I quickly headed back downstairs to meet up with Dillon. He grinned, extending his arm towards me. I linked mine with his and followed him outside, closing the door behind us, and making sure to lock it since no one was home. My parents were having their monthly date night while Catherine was at a friend's house.
My eyes widened at the motorcycle sitting in front of my house. I recognised that it was a Harley Davidson model. Max used to talk about wanting to get one but our parents forbid him from doing so. I'm sure he will one day when he gets the money, much to our parent's dismay, and I'll probably see if I can use it after I get some practice since admittedly, I'm still terrified I'll fall off or something.
"You alright there?" Dillon asked, walking over to stand beside me with a raised brow.
"You bloody have a motorcycle!? Why didn't you tell me?! All this time you were walking me home, you were hiding this," I exclaimed, punching his arm lightly. Dillon threw his head back and laughed.
"Ok firstly mean." I rolled my eyes. "And secondly I didn't tell you because I loved admiring the joy in your eyes being outdoors and seeing all the little things," he smiled. I looked away as my cheeks heated up. How smooth. Curses, he got me there, damn him.
Dillon placed his hand on the small of my back, guiding me towards the motorcycle. I put my helmet on and climbed on behind Dillon. I took a deep breath before wrapping my arms around his waist. I let out a squeak when he suddenly sped off, clutching him tighter and resting my head against his back while I closed my eyes to avoid looking at how fast we were going. Dillon started cheering loudly into the night.
I peeked over at the side to see Dillon in the reflection of the side view mirror with a toothy grin. I rolled my eyes but found myself unable to resist the upturn of my lips.
"Come on, let loose and have fun!" he shouted over the engine.
"Easy for you to say!"
"Try it and you may be surprised!"
I huffed but decided to follow along and do the same thing even though it was a bit embarrassing when people in the cars beside me started staring at us. Dillon began laughing while I looked away. Nosy onlookers.
Dillon helped me off the motorcycle once we got to the cinema. He then extended his arm and I linked mine with his. Dillon smiled down at me as I did the same before we both walked inside.
Dillon decided to watch a scary movie, which should be interesting in my opinion. I just hope I don't freak out or anything though I'm sure Dillon would enjoy that because I'm pretty sure that's why he picked it in the first place. I can handle those 'real life paranormal' videos on YouTube but when it comes to movies with jump scares, nah, they are too extreme and exaggerated in my opinion.
Both Dillon and I split the bill for the snacks since he beat me at paying for my ticket. I didn't want him to pay for everything for me. We simply got popcorn and chocolate to share and two drinks. TI zoned out when the commercials started rolling until I felt Dillon's warm hand grab mine. I looked at our intertwined hands on the armrest between us before looking at Dillon. He just stared at the screen, eating the popcorn but it was easy to spot the quirk of his lips. I smiled but attempted to hide the blush on my cheeks.
The movie was enjoyable after watching the full thing but considering jump scares actually do what they're supposed to...sometimes since Dillon didn't even flinch, I ended up clutching his hand through some of the scenes despite knowing the whole story wasn't real, even though it says 'based on a real story'. That's a bunch of bullshit lies.
Dillon had wrapped his arm around my shoulder during the film, which provided a sense of comfort. He also at some point started staring at me for a bit with a smile spread across his lips, barely focusing on the film when he thought I wasn't looking but I could tell from my peripheral vision. It made my cheeks heat up but I pretended not to notice what he was doing.
"What did you think of the movie?" he asked as we exited with our hands intertwined.
"Well it was good but you kept distracting me," I joked. Dillon opened his mouth in mock shock.
"Well excuse me and here I thought I was being the perfect gentleman," he said sarcastically.
"You were up until you started staring at me as if I were the brightest diamond," I said in a playful tone. He went silent before stopping by his motorcycle to look me in the eyes. I frowned and tilted my head. Did I say something wrong? Why has he gone quiet?
"You are," he said.
"Hm? I am what?" I asked.
"The brightest diamond," he said. He then raised his hand to brush his hand against my cheek before tucking a strand of hair behind my ear while I was distracted staring up at him, trying to decipher if he was telling the truth or joking around with me. None of that was evident. No joking, no playfulness, no sarcasm, nothing like that. "You're amazing."
Dillon leaned forward and I followed but before anything could happen, a loud car horn went off, making us both jump apart. I squinted my eyes when a bright light from a car was shown at us as they drove until they were in front of the motorcycle, blocking the exit. My eyes widened when I saw Caleb and Nate in the car.
Oh those little shits are so going to get it
"What are you two doing here?" Dillon glared as the pair snickered.
"We wanted to see how you two were doing, we were getting worried that you might have scared her off with...well you being you," Caleb replied jokingly with a mischievous grin.
"Yeah, we just wanted to check up on our boy and our girl," Nate winked. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.
"Both of you. Leave. Now," I ordered.
"Oh boo, you're no fun," Nate pouted.
"Did I stutter?" I raised a brow. Nate huffed and slouched in his seat as Caleb grinned.
"She's a keeper Dillon!" he shouted from out of his window when he drove off. I cursed under my breath at the heat that now took over my cheeks as Dillon chuckled.
"Shall we leave?" he asked. I nodded and followed his lead to climb onto the bike and put my helmet on. I wrapped my arms around his waist before he could speed off.
I would enjoy the ride more if my thoughts weren't occupied by the almost kiss we just had. Is he going to bring it up at all? Or will he keep quiet, realising that he doesn't like me, not in the same way that I do? Ugh! This is going to annoy me when I get home. I better get ready to call Amanda to tell her all about my embarrassment tonight. Yay.
"Hey, where are we going now!?" I asked with a frown once I noticed we weren't going in the direction to head back to mine. I could see him smirk from the side view mirror on the right.
"You'll see," he simply said.
Dillon parked near the pier before helping me off. He grabbed my hand and led me to the railing of the pier. We leaned forward and stared at the night sky which contained hundreds of shining stars and the full moon that shone a light in the darkness around us.
"Amy?" Dillon called out, snapping me out of my thoughts to look up at him.
"Yeah?"
"I need to ask you something." He grabbed my other hand and looked into my eyes. He then glanced down at our interlocked fingers before looking at me again and sighing.
"Are you alright?" I asked, tilting my head and frowning. He smiled and nodded as he brushed his thumb over the back of my hands.
"To make it official, would you, Amy Prescott, be my girlfriend?" Dillon formally asked. It took me a couple of seconds to process what he said. I just blinked up at him.
Did he just-? Oh, who cares! Finally, what I've wanted to happen has!
"That was cheesy but yes Dillon I will be your girlfriend," I said calmly with a wide smile spread across my lips, though on the inside I was freaking out.
Dillon grinned as he stared into my eyes. I'll admit, I got a little eager and ended up yanking my hand out of his grip and grabbing him by the shirt before pressing my lip against his. He seemed surprised at first but kissed back nonetheless, wrapping his arms around my waist. I got on my tiptoe and wrapped my arms around his neck.
Once we pulled away, we rested our foreheads against each other's. We smiled as we relished in the moment before we would have to go back home and end the night soon since it was getting late.
Once the night was over, I kissed Dillon goodnight and headed inside my home. Not even half an hour later he messaged me. I chuckled and messaged back, knowing it would lead to a late night sleep.
My phone began ringing in the middle of our conversation but I answered it anyway since it was Amanda and she is one of the few people closest to me that are important.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hi, so...tell me everything," Amanda said, probably with a wide grin on her face knowing her. "Please," she pleaded. I smiled and rolled my eyes.
"Fine, fine," I huffed. She squealed before going silent. She listened intently as I told her everything.
"I knew he would finally ask you by the end of the night! Someone owes me five bucks!" Amanda exclaimed. I raised a brow.
"You knew?"
"Oh come on, it was only a matter of time, I mean what guy wouldn't want to be with you."
"Many."
"Don't even start, I will fight you," Amanda joked. I chuckled and shook my head.
"Sure you are," I said sarcastically.
"Any who, I must be going, I'm hungry and there's a plate of lasagne calling my name, I'll message you tomorrow," she said.
"Enjoy your dinner, talk to you tomorrow, bye," I said.
I hung up the phone to scroll through Dillon's messages that I didn't get to read since I was talking to Amanda. We messaged back and forth until I thought it was time for me to listen to my body and get some sleep since I was dozing off. But as soon as I laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling as if it were the most interesting this ever, I was wide awake with a smile spread across my lips and my mind playing the memories of tonight.
