Chapter 4 (Edited)

Two months have gone by and so far, I can only say it's been perfect. I've been content with no drama at school whatsoever and a new friend group who I've gotten to get close with over the period of time I've been here. I got to meet many of the people from my school at the first party I went to with the group. It was awkward at first given I've never been to one but luckily Dillon was there to stick by my side, guide me around and introduce me.

When we got back to Sarah's that night, she pulled me aside while the girls were busy in messing up the already clean kitchen by baking some brownies. Rest in peace that kitchen. Sarah decided to surprise me by talking to me about Dillon, saying if I wanted to date him, I should go for it. I guess that was her way of giving me her approval.

That was only last week because she and the girls found out about my feelings towards Dillon. I've only started to develop them recently but I decided to tell them anyway. I mentioned I wasn't going to act on my feelings because I respected Sarah as my friend and I think that's why she pulled me aside.

They all tell me to go for it and make the first move but I've been way too chicken to do anything. The way he acts towards me, the jokes and playful banter make me think he only thinks of me as a friend. I don't think I want to risk our friendship for a 'feeling' that I have and end up being wrong.

Due to it being the weekend, Sarah decided to invite us all over to her house to hang out. We were going to discuss a last-minute decision on what we should do today, which was to either go out or hang in Sarah's backyard yet again since we all absolutely loved how she and her mother decorated it. We would do our usual thing of just sitting in her backyard, having a BBQ and playing some games but mostly at night since that's the best time to be outdoors.

I grabbed my essentials, making sure to bring an overnight bag since we were sleeping over. Her and Dillon's parents were overseas for their anniversary until tomorrow. I head downstairs before saying goodbye to my family, giving them each a kiss on the cheek. I was quick to walk to Sarah's; thank god I've gotten some sleep today. That was only because I fell asleep reading the assigned book we got for English. It was way too boring.

I drummed on her door before she opened it with a wide grin. Sarah let me in and guided me into the living room where I saw the others. I decided to sit in between Ricky and Dillon as Sarah moved to stand in front of us.

"Ok now that we're all here, time for this meeting to begin, first topic of order is where should we go today to hang out?" Sarah asked. I shrugged.

"I don't know, it was your decision to gather the troops today sis," Dillon said.

He laid back with his body stretched out on the couch and his head on my lap, grinning up at me. I rolled my eyes as Sarah glared. Nate and Caleb smirked over at Dillon. I raised a brow in their direction, making them immediately look away to Sarah again. I huffed before pushing Dillon off me, making him roll onto the floor. The others began to snicker as Dillon groaned.

He is faking being hurt, he fell on the carpet and has face-planted worse than that. I only lightly pushed him. I liked Dillon, I really do, honestly, but I didn't want the others to get the wrong idea when I didn't even know his feelings for me.

"You hurt my face, how about a kiss to make it better?" Dillon smirked. My cheeks heated up against my will. Betrayal.

"Aw, fine, I'll kiss your little imaginary wound, Dillon," I joked. Dillon closed his eyes as if awaiting the kiss. I kissed my two fingers before pressing them to his cheek. "There you go."

"Well played," He glared. I chuckled.

"Ok enough flirting, back to the discussion," Sarah ordered. I shot her a glare as the other chuckled.

"How about we go to the beach?" Chloe suggested. Sarah smiled at the idea.

"Actually that's a good idea, let's go people! I need to go for a swim!" She exclaimed, raising her fist in the air.

She ran over to pull me off the couch and drag me upstairs as Ricky and Chloe followed along with us. I didn't bring a swimsuit; I don't usually have one sitting in my bag. That's why Sarah allowed me to borrow one of hers. I decided to wear my floral summer dress over the bathing suit.

We took the bus down to the beach. I sat next to Dillon, watching a YouTube video he wanted to show me with his earphones that we shared as Sarah bickered with Nate and the other three played music from Ricky's phone. It's a good thing there was no one on the bus or we'd be annoying the other passengers. The bus driver was chill to let us do our own thing.

When we got to the beach, Sarah set up her beach blanket since she rushed to find the perfect spot. Nate played some music from his Bluetooth speaker as Chloe set up a game of cards between all of us. Occasionally we'd put money in to make the game a bit more interesting. Caleb's idea, not mine. After an hour, we gave money to Caleb, Nate, and Chloe to get us something for lunch.

I was talking to Ricky and Sarah when Dillon decided to pick me up and throw me over his shoulder making me yelp. Shit, I hate being held like this, I don't get who would because it's equivalent to hanging upside down and feeling the blood rush to your head. I peeked from the side of his body to see him strolling towards the water. Crap, not the ideal way I want to go in to have a swim.

"Don't even think about it Dillon, I swear to god you will regret it," I attempted to threaten.

"Yeah right, sweetheart, you love me," Dillon said. I rolled my eyes.

"I'm going to make sure you wake with worms in your bed tomorrow," I grumbled bitterly.

"You're so cute, ok, now time for you to go swimming," he said before throwing me into the water.

I poked my head out and spat the disgusting seawater before gasping for air. Oh, I feel like I need to cleanse my mouth with some kind of drink because all I taste is salt and it's not sitting well. I can barely handle sparkling water. I barely even opened my mouth and yet I feel like I gulped a whole lot of the saltwater.

I moved my hair that clung to my face away to scowl at Dillon. The bloody ass was laughing, hunched over and clutching his stomach. I didn't see the comedy in this. However, I do see revenge because this can be let go without getting equal. Everyone must play fair.

"You are so dead," I growled, narrowing my eyes at him. I tackled him making us both land close to the shore. I was quick to straddle his waist and pin him down. I smirked as he looked up at me with wide eyes.

"I hate you," Dillon glared.

"Aw! You love me, sweetheart," I teased.

"You're right," he smirked.

"Wait what?"

All of a sudden I was flipped over and our positions were switched with my wrists pinned down. I cursed under my breath before glaring up at him. Dillon threw his head back and laughed before smiling.

"Guys! Quit flirting and get your butt over here!" Ricky shouted.

My cheeks heated up as I pushed Dillon off me while the others bursted out laughing. I got up before helping Dillon stand. We walked back to where the others were with Nate, Caleb, Chloe and our lunch. Sarah kept staring at me while we were eating. 'What happened?' she mouthed. 'Nothing' I mouthed back. She looked at me then at the guys. That's not a good sign.

"Dillon, go get us ice cream with these two," Sarah demanded. He furrowed his brows and frowned.

"No, maybe after an hour I'll get it," Dillon replied. Sarah smacked him upside the head. He rubbed the spot where she hit him and glared. "And what was that for little sis? Another temper tantrum?"

"Because you deserve it for saying no to your little sister," Sarah glared back. Dillon rolled his eyes.

"Ok, fine, whatever will make you stop complaining," he grumbled. He took the money from Sarah, muttering under his breath. He then walked off with Caleb and Nate.

"Ok, they left, great, now when the fuck are you two going to admit to each other that you both love each other?" Sarah immediately questioned.

I thought she was joking for a second but she actually looked serious. Love? Who said love? I said liked, I never said love. That's a pretty strong word for something I don't feel as of yet. I still barely know him, not fully. I'm not there yet. I just have feelings for him.

"I didn't say I was in love with him, I just said I liked him," I frowned.

"Lies," Ricky protested.

"Ok, you're overreacting, also, none of this is helping," I pointed out.

I rubbed my temple and huffed when they ignored me to continue to gossip about us. And here I thought Amanda's reaction to my confession was insane. When I told her before I told the girls, she freaked out. Firstly saying she was happy for me and wanted to fly over to give me a big ole bear hug, meaning bone crushing, and secondly, questioning me about him. She said she wanted to meet him but that's only if she flies over. I wish that would happen so I could see her in person again. Maybe one day.

"What are you guys talking about?" I was brought back to reality at the sound of Dillon's voice. I looked over my shoulder to see the guys walking over to us.

"We were talking about...clothes," Chloe lied.

"Sure you were," Caleb said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes and sat next to her.

Luckily the conversation about Dillon was dropped by then and I was able to enjoy the rest of the time we spent out in the sun. It got to sunset when we decided to go back to Sarah's. We discussed having a barbeque for dinner since we were all getting hungry. Luckily there were some burgers we could make, well, we had to ask Sarah and Dillon's parents first. After Sarah called them, we were told it was a go.

While we sat at the outdoor dining table with our food and soda, the others were playing a game of cards again and offering up what little money they had. I was messaging Amanda as she provided some updates about what's happening back home. I had already finished my food and was just sipping on my diet coke. I jumped when I felt a tap on my shoulder, making me spill a bit of my drink on my hand. I turned my head to see Dillon smiling at me.

"Hey Dillon, what's up?" I asked with a smile in return. I put my drink on the table to wipe my hands with a napkin.

"Hey Amy, um, I need to ask you something in private," Dillon said, rubbing the nape of his neck.

"Ah, sure, ok," I nodded. I got up while the others were distracted by the game and followed Dillon to the living room. "So, what is it that you wanted?"

"Do you, I don't know, want to go to the movies tomorrow, together?" Dillon asked. His cheeks turned a light shade of pink. I blinked a couple of times, trying to process what he said.

Did he just ask me out? Maybe I'm misinterpreting

"Like a date?" I questioned. He nodded. Okay, so I'm not going crazy or imagining things. Thank god, thought I was dreaming again. That would be embarrassing. "Ok, 11 o'clock, don't forget," I smiled while inwardly telling myself not to show my excitement by squealing. I was starting to lose hope that maybe he could be interested in me.

Dillon breathed a sigh of relief as his shoulders relaxed from the tense position they were in. "I won't forget," he grinned. He then pulled me into a hug. I laughed, wrapping my arms around him in return.

"Hey guys! Come over here, we're going to play truth or dare," Nate called out. We stepped away from each other and smiled.

"Guess we better go sit with them," I said. I followed him towards the table and sat next to Sarah who insistently raised a brow at me, glancing between Dillon and me.

"Tell me what happened later?" she said. I nodded and grinned.

"For sure."

"Ok ladies and barbarians, let's start-" Nate and Caleb gave Sarah the finger with a glare while Dillon rolled his eyes and crossed his eyes and crossed his arms. "Who's first?" Sarah asked. None of us spoke; just pure silence. Sarah huffed and grabbed the empty glass bottle on the table that Caleb had been drinking from earlier. "We are going to use this to decide."

Everyone started complaining as Sarah mimicked before glaring. My eyes caught Dillon's who was smiling as he stared at me. 'I want to bail' he mouthed. 'Don't cry now' I mouthed back jokingly. He chuckled. Sarah continued to stare at us but with a twitch at the corner of her lips. She spun the bottle on the table and it landed on Nate first.

"Truth or dare?" Sarah asked.

"Dare," Nate shrugged.

"Ok, I dare you to let me put duct tape on your hairy arm and let me rip it off," she smirked. Nate's eyes widened.

"What?! Why?" he exclaimed.

"Oh come on, it's like waxing," Chloe chimed in. Nate groaned before dropping his head onto the table but accidentally banging it. I bit my bottom lip as the others bursted out laughing. He groaned again.

"I think my soul left my body," he muttered,

"Stop being such a baby and man up; you're being so overdramatic," Caleb said.

"I hate you all," Nate grumbled. He lifted his head with a glare and stuck his arm out.

Sarah squealed before rushing inside to quickly get the duct tape. Dillon patted his back with a grin. Nate looked like a grumpy child who didn't get what they asked for from their parents and Dillon was attempting to comfort him although I could see the amusement in his eyes.

Sarah came back and eagerly put the duct tape on his arm. Nate looked away as Sarah counted down from three but ripped it off at two. We laughed when Nate screamed loudly, holding his arm close to his chest when Sarah went to do it again. He scowled as she just smirked and held up the duct tape that had his hair on it. Nate grumbled under his breath as we continued the game.

"I'm scared of your sister now," I whispered to Dillon. He had moved to sit beside me mid-game.

"Now you know how I feel every day," he joked. I chuckled.

"Truth or Dare?" Sarah asked. I glanced over to see everyone staring at me and the bottle now pointed in my direction. When did that happen? I only looked away for a minute, damn it. Ugh, I'll probably regret my decision but fuck it.

"Dare," I answered. Sarah smirked, looking towards Ricky and Chloe who had the same mischievous expression

Yep, I regret picking dare, why didn't I listen to my conscious?

"I dare you, my friend, to kiss Dillon," Ricky said. My eyes widened and so did Dillon's.

"What?!" we exclaimed in unison. That's it; they're dead to me.

"You picked dare, so you have to do it," she shrugged. I shot her a glare before sighing in defeat. I'll probably curl up into a ball and hide away from the world in embarrassment later anyway. I hope they can read my mind where I'm cursing them like a sailor.

"Ugh, fine," I said reluctantly. I twisted my chair to face Dillon. His eyes were on my lips before they glanced up to my eyes. He then frowned.

"Remember, this is your decision, you don't have to do the dare if you don't want to," he whispered.

"Dillon."

"Yeah?"

"Shut up."

I cupped Dillon's cheek and crashed my lips against his. He didn't respond for a moment but it only took a few seconds for him to kiss back. The kiss didn't last long since we were still in front of our friends and this was still my first kiss.

My cheeks heated up as I sunk low into the chair, hoping to hide away from the amused looks on everyone's face.

"What was that?!" Ricky exclaimed with wide eyes and a grin.

"What was what?" I muttered.

"What was that kiss? I didn't think you'd actually do it!"

"It was a dare!"

"You could have said no."

"Let me die in peace," I grumbled. The others laughed while I hid my face in my hands.

"For what it's worth, I enjoyed it; you're a good kisser," Dillon whispered into my ear. It sent a shiver down my spine as I attempted to hide the smile that had spread across my lips. The blush on my cheeks has probably gone darker.

The rest of the night went tame with the truth or dare. It did get more intense at some point, that's when I bailed out of the game. I was too scared to do anything else. The dare I did is the only form of act of confidence I'll ever do for a long while.

When the game ended, Sarah grabbed my hand and dragged me inside to the living room, closing the glass door behind her. We sat on the couch. The music could still be heard playing in the backyard and the echo of laughter that accompanied it.

"What did you and my brother talk about?" she demanded. "You looked like a ray of sunshine with the bright smile on your face and Dillon came back with his cheeks flushed red."

"Well...he asked me out," I admitted. Sarah went silent, just staring at me. It was getting creepy. "Sarah?"

"He asked you out?"

"Yes, I believe that's what I said."

"Finally!" she exclaimed. I jumped, startled at her outburst. "He finally got the courage to ask you out!"

"Ok, ok, not that big of a deal," I chuckled. Sarah rolled her eyes and waved me off.

"Pish-posh, this is big news to me, I'm so happy for you two!" she squealed. I smiled and shook my head.

"What are you ladies doing in here? Come join in on the fun," Dillon said as he poked his head through the glass door with a charming grin across his lips.

"Coming!" Sarah called out before grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the door to exit out back into the yard.

We ended up turning on the stringed lights and later put on some tunes from Nate's Bluetooth speaker. I danced with Dillon through some of the songs, just laughing and messing around. We weren't the best because we weren't being serious. I mean I even danced with Sarah, Ricky and Chloe. This lasted until after midnight; well, for me anyway since I got way too tired that I collapsed onto the lounge.

That's when Dillon suggested that I go to sleep. I was going to go upstairs by myself but just as I was about to stand up, Dillon picked me up into his arms as I wrapped mine around his neck without protest, resting my head on his shoulder while my eyes drifted close. He carried me upstairs as the others shouted goodnight to me. My cheeks heated up yet again when he placed me on the bed in the guest room and kissed my forehead.

"Goodnight sweetheart."
