Chapter 16
*Reads a few chapters on HP book 3 before calculating a perfect time skip*
Thursday evening, 5 minutes before curfew.
Rose's POV
I was on my way towards the Slytherin Common Room when Harry grabbed me and proceeded to drag me towards an unused classroom and closing the door behind us.
"You have to stop dragging me, that's the second-" I started to say but faltered at Harry's outraged look and heavy panting. I proceeded to sit on one of the desks, cast a few silencing spells and looked at Harry expectantly. This looks like it might take a while. "You would not believe how bad my week have been so far!" Harry roared.
"First I had Divination with Professor Trelawney on Monday, you were right by the way she's a fraud. She made us read tea leaves and when she saw mine she went on and on about some bloody 'Grim' which is an omen of death and proceeded to predict my bloody death! Then, after lunch, the very same day, I had Care of Magical Creatures, the class was great really it's Malfoy that is the problem. Hagrid was teaching us about Hippogriffs and I even flew him! When the Hippogriff brought me back, Malfoy thought it was a clever idea to walk up to him and bloody insulted him! He got scratched for pulling that stunt, but he acted as if he was dying! Bloody Drama Queen if you ask me! After dinner Ron, Hermione and I went to visit Hagrid who looked like a bloody mess! After he sobered up he went on about how I'm not allowed to wander outside after dark with Black being on the loose. I swear everyone thinks I'm this weak little kid who will die everytime I go outside! Then today in Potions, I hear Malfoy going on about getting Hagrid sacked! And don't get me started on today's update about Sirius Black! He's been sighted never Hogsmeade, you know and then Malfoy started talking about how he would've wanted revenge on Black if he was in my shoes! What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Harry ranted.
"You done?" I asked quietly after a few seconds of silence. "Yeah, sorry," Harry muttered.
"Good. Now, first of all Trelawney predicts a student's death every bloody year, she predicted mine last year. I already know about the incident with Buckbeak, in Draco's exaggerated story. Thanks for giving me the actual story, by the way. As for everyone throwing a hissy-fit about your safety...I wouldn't worry about it too much. Hagrid won't get sacked, trust me, although...Nevermind. As for Draco's comment on Black...I wish I could say he's just trying to bait you but he actually has a point there," I said. "What do mean?" Harry asked.
"Harry...Do you know why Sirius Black was sent to Azkaban? He was charged with the murder of a dozen muggles and one wizard. That's what stands in the newspapers at least. What they don't say is that Black, who was your parents Secret Keeper, betrayed your parents and told Voldemort where you and your parents were hiding, thus marking him as a traitor. At least that's how the story goes with the Ministry and Dumbledore. Sirius Black and James Potter, your dad, was best friends and the Potters trusted him with their life. That's what Draco's been going on about," I said cautiously.
"What's your take on all of this?" Asked Harry through clenched teeth. "I noticed you were not including yourself with any of this," he added quickly.
"Clever, I guess you're not so oblivious after all. No, I have my doubts. You see, when the Aurors arrived at the scene of the crime they found Black laughing like a maniac in the middle of the chaos. See the story goes that after Black supposedly revealed your parents' location to the Dark Lord another friend of your father named Peter Pettigrew went after Black to confront him. It is believed that Sirius Black killed Pettigrew and all that's left of Pettigrew is a finger and his wand. Now add in a laughing Sirius Black and all fingers immediately points to him," I laughed bitterly as I remember my initial reaction on how quickly the authorities dismissed any other possible outcomes.
"You know, the sad part is that the Muggle Police would've done more effort in that case than the Aurors. The Aurors immediately arrested Black and put him straight into Azkaban without even holding a trial. Funny, there was a trail held for every single Death Eater caught alive, even if they are already guilty, but Black doesn't get one. I find that extremely strange..."
I stayed silent for a few seconds before I continued. "From what I've heard, Black would never betray his best friend. A friend that was like a brother to him and offered him a place to stay. See the majority of the Blacks are all Slytherin and Dark Wizards, not to mention rumoured to be supporters of Voldemort. But Sirius was different. He was a Gryffindor and he was on the 'Light' side of the war later on. There's even rumours that Sirius got disowned somewhere between his fourth and sixth year at Hogwarts, thus he ended up staying at the Potters, your grandparents, for his remaining school years."
"Now, ask yourself this, why would someone like that suddenly turn his back on the person who gave him a place to stay and treated him like a brother? I'll let you think about that for a while. One more thing...Professor Lupin knew all three of them, Sirius Black, James Potter and Peter Pettrigrew. I thought you ought to know, you might get more info on Sirius' upbringing. I also heard from Draco that your Boggart is a Dementor. Impressive, your fear is Fear itself. Goodnight Harry, don't get caught tonight, it's already 30 minutes past curfew," I ended our conversation and walked out of the classroom towards the Slytherin Dorms. I rather have Harry decide which side of the story he believes himself than hear the popular, broken version from someone else, I just hope he doesn't do something stupid along the way.
Harry's POV
I stood in the empty classroom alone for a few more minutes trying to comprehend what has just been told to me. What? Why? This doesn't make any sense! The way Angelique was putting it makes me think that there is more to the story than people would have us believe. I need more information but Angie is right, I need to talk to Professor Lupin. I eventually went back to Gryffindor Tower and was immediately cornered by Ron and Hermione.
"Harry, where have you been? We were looking all over for you but you just disappeared! Don't you ever run out like that, you could've gotten hurt or worse!" Hermione yelled.
"Guys, I'm fine. I just had to clear my head for a bit, this week was pretty rough. Look, I'm tired and we still got class tomorrow. Goodnight Hermione, Ron," I said feeling exhausted.
