Chapter 15
A few hours later, at breakfast
Rose's POV
"Merlin! What happened to you, Rose? You look terrible!" exclaimed Draco as soon as I joined the rest of the Slytherins at the table. "Couldn't sleep, I still need to head to the dorms to freshen up a bit before class. Might need a Pepper-up potion as well," I muttered. I never went back to the Slytherin Dorms after I went to go see the twins. Even worse I couldn't find out much about the Valentine family in the school library and I still have to contact Marietta and Melody before the end of the day. I am currently only working on autopilot and no amount of coffee in the world is going to help...I will have to use my special tea to function today. Merlin, I hate mornings, I just hope my schedule won't be busy this morning. [Nah, you're going to have a busy day today...better get that tea now. You're going to need it Rosiekinns.] Not long after Snape handed out our schedules and slipped me a Pepper-up Potion with mine. "I suggest that you hide your tiredness before coming to breakfast in the future, Miss Monroe. You're a Slytherin and it wouldn't do to show weakness," Drawled Professor Snape. "Yes, Professor. It won't happen again and thank you, Professor," I replied. I looked at my schedule and groaned inwardly.
I've got Self-defence (SD) first with Professor 'Valour', the only good thing about this is that the twins will be joining me for this class, considering that it will be a mixed class and not many wizards and witches applied for the class, so I will be surrounded by a bunch of Gifted idiots, mostly. Better make a pit-stop at the kitchens for my dose of highly-caffeinated tea then. Thank Merlin I've got a student issued Time Turner since last year, I'm going to need it a lot more this year, although I suppose I could always drop Divination the class is useless anyway, at least as long as that Trelawney fraud keeps teaching it. I'll have to ask Professor Snape about that.
"Wait. How do you have two subjects at the same time today? You can't be at two places at once!" exclaimed Draco after he saw my schedule for today. I shrugged at him. "I have my ways, not that it's any of your business, Draco," I replied loudly after seeing both Valentine boys looking at me curiously. 'Time-turner,' I said to Draco mentally. 'Oh...wait how?!' he asked me. 'Can't tell, now stop asking about it!' I reprimanded him.
[A/N: Mystique/Monroe chose quite a few Electives last year. They are Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Divination and Care of Magical Creatures. Now she also has Self-Defence from fourth-year until end of seventh-year, so she's gonna be pretty busy. I'm going to give you guys a preview of her schedule, either in this chapter or later on.]

'Joy...no free periods today and Potions with the Weasley twins...a guaranteed recipe for disaster knowing those two. Ugh, Hufflepuff for DADA! Great Lockhart's fan club!' I thought while taking my Pepper-up Potion and studying my schedule.
"So, ready to go to Self-Defence, Angie?" asked Fred when he reached me. "No. Also, you know you're not allowed near the Slytherin table, boys," I said with a bored voice. "Like we care. Come on, Angie. Let's go already," said George. "I'm coming, cool your jets. Bye, Draco," I said getting up and walking with the twins to SD. Merlin, help me. I don't have the strength today.
***
As the twins and I entered Professor Valour's class every Gifted in the classroom stopped talking and sneered at us. Hmm, looks like the twins are the first wizards to arrive. I smirked. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gifted students think that wizards don't belong here or that I'm weak...They are in for the shock of their life. I taught the Weasley twins how to defend themselves and I'd kick every Gifted's ass here in less than 30 seconds easily. Not that they'd ever find out about my impressive fighting skills that easily. Soon ten more Hogwarts students joined us before the bell rang and the professor arrived.
"Alright. Listen up! This is not an easy class and requires strong dedication. The things taught in my class is taught to Gifted children at a very young age and most of you wizards and witches will be dropping this class by the end of the week, as the Gifted community have better reflexes than the average wizard and you will most likely lying on the ground in 30 seconds when fighting a Gifted. The few wizards that do manage to survive this week - no, you won't die or get severely injured, Mr Jordan - will earn my respect as not many can keep up. We will start with a few easy defensive blocks today. Now, Daniel and I will be putting you in pairs -"
"Professor, if I may...I would like to be paired up with Monroe. I would happily teach her how to block any offensive attacks," said a Gryffindor Gifted boy while eyeing me hungrily. Professor Valour looked at Daniel who just shrugged. "Very well, Mr Torres. But please refrain from interrupting me again, I do not tolerate disrespectful behaviour in my class," Professor Valour barked at Torres. I smirked. He has no idea who he's messing with, he just gave me the perfect opportunity to teach these fools to never judge a book by its cover.
'Fred, George. Let's teach these idiots a lesson, shall we?' I said looking at them. 'We'd love to!' they said grinning so viciously that one Gifted boy looked worried. Soon Daniel and his uncle had us all in pairs and Professor Valour cleared his throat.
"Now, Daniel and I will walk around and help you with the blocking movements as you get 'attacked'. Don't be surprised if you fail the first few times, Gifteds are experienced in the art of fighting and each family is taught a different fighting style. Just keep your focus and you will eventually get to block some of the advances. Now, begin!" the professor barked and soon most of the wizards were on their backs in the first 20 seconds.
Torres charged at me with a vindictive intent and I blocked his attack easily. "Please tell me that wasn't your best attempt to 'put me in my place' Torres," I said unimpressed and his eyes widened comically. "How did you know?" he asked surprised. "I'm not stupid. I know you all think I know nothing about the Gifted community. Well, you're wrong and it's my turn now!" I said grinning evilly at him and attacked him and he got his ass handed to him. I think I might've broken him (mentally)...oops. I looked around and noticed the twins were doing good as well. "Well? Are you going to get up or are you admitting defeat, Torres?" I asked. "Never!" he growled and charged at me again. I blocked his first attack, grabbed his arm with his second attempt and proceeded to kick his ass again. 'She doesn't even have a pattern!' I heard from Torres before I pinned him to the ground. "Let this be a lesson to you. Don't. Underestimate. Me. Again. Understood, Torres?" I hissed in his ear and receiving a frantic nod. Satisfied with his answer, I let him go and stood up. Only to be faced with a class full of shocked faces, well except the twins they know what I'm capable of. "Please close your mouths, you'll catch flies if you don't," I said smugly.
"Weasleys! Monroe! My office, now!" barked Professor Valour and he signalled for Daniel to follow. As soon as we all entered his office he closed the door and put privacy wards up (Gifted privacy wards). He looked at me for a moment before speaking.
"What the hell was that? I was under the impression that you didn't know much about the Gifted world and its ways!" he growled. I snorted. "Did you already forget Professor Valour? Let me refresh your memory; my Legal Guardian. I told you she told me a bit about the Gifted community. Did you really think that my Guardian, who also is a Gifted, wouldn't teach me how to defend myself?" I snapped at the two Valentine males angrily. "And if you're wondering how Fred and George already know how to block any Gifted attacks; I taught them and they train with me every weekend," I added, knowing what they would've asked next.
"Always full of surprises, aren't you, le petite rose?" purred Daniel who earned a glare from his uncle and me. "Daniel! Now is not the time for your flirtatious remarks! This is important!" snapped Professor Valour and turned back to me. "I noticed how you said my last name, problem?" he asked with one eyebrow raised. I glared. 'Wouldn't you like to know, Valentine,' I thought vehemently, not realising that Daniel had read my thoughts in that exact moment. "Fine. Are you still going to withhold your Guardian's name from us? We would like to know who taught you," he (Professor Valour) continued. "Nope, not happening. The only way you'll find out is if she permits me to tell you or she tells you herself, which won't be happening soon," I said smugly. "Will that be all, Professor? I'd like to go back to class now before I have to go to my next class," I added. "Yes, you're dismissed and you're being paired up with De Silva now."
"I'd stop with the flirting if I were you, Daniel. She doesn't like that and from what we heard from Draco you already managed to piss her off last night," said George amused as we left the office which only caused Daniel to smirk. Please don't tell me he took that as a challenge...I will kill him before the end of the week if that's the case. I need a bloody pain reliever stat, I'm starting to get a bloody headache just from Daniel's antics alone.
The rest of the morning proceeded extremely slow (although it could be because I lived through my first class twice) and lunch finally came. "So, how was your morning so far?" Draco asked and I glared at him. "That bad? What happened?" he asked surprised. "Do you have any idea how much torture it is having classes with Daniel Valour? If he's not trying to charm the entire class with his flirtatious charm then it's directed at me! The only time the idiot actually shut up is during DADA with Lockhart and when I had Ancient Runes without him!" I ranted and Jason sniggered. "What's so funny, Valour?" I snapped when I heard him. "Oh, nothing. Now you know how I and the rest of my family feel about him. That and you're the first female that isn't affected by his 'charm' which irritates him greatly, he has never been turned down by a person ever!" Jason said highly amused and proceeded to snigger uncontrollably. My lips quirked up for a moment at that. "Really? He's never been rejected by anyone? I find that hard to believe, he is quite annoying," I remarked curiously. "Yup, never. What you find as annoying the majority of females, and even the not so straight males, find it irresistible and alluring. It's also a family trait that we all have, even my strict uncle has it, believe it or not!" he said when he finally calmed down. "Bullshit, prove it, Jason!" said Draco and Jason smirked. "Alright, you asked for it. So do you want to be my victim or are you going to give me a test subject?" Jason asked and Draco blushed. Huh, looks like he figured out that Draco is not as Straight as he seems, well done. "W-what? It won't work on me, I'm straight! Do it on Bulstrode! She has scared away every guy who tried to ask her out so far," stuttered Draco. "Sure, keep telling yourself that, Draco. I'll do one better. I bet I can make both you and Milicent as soft as putty," Jason said confidently. "Just one thing Valour. How many more of you are there?" I asked.
Jason smirked at that. "What scared you'll be outnumbered? Let's see...I've got one sister, Daniel, Sebastian and Deamon...so that makes it four older brothers if you include Daniel, oh and two male cousins," he said while counting on his fingers. "So, basically nine annoying male Valours including your dad and uncle. Joy," I said horrified. "You forgot my sister," Jason added. "I'm straight, your sister poses no threat to me. Now, show us please," I replied.
[A/N: Yes, Jason said four. He just didn't mention Hugo, it's not a mistake!]
Jason smirked and went to Bulstrode. Not even a minute later and the girl was blushing and fawning over Jason. Impressive. Jason bid her farewell and returned to us. "Impressive, Valour-" I started to say but he cut me off. 'Right, Draco you're next. Good luck,' I mentally sniggered to Draco.
"Oh, Draco ..." he started to purr. 'Damn even I felt that!' I thought surprised. Jason proceeded with a few flirtatious jokes and finally ended with one of the most cheesiest and adorable pick-up-line I have ever heard; 'I know we're not in Professor Flitwick's class, but you're still charming.' It was the final blow that successfully made Draco's masks crumble and caused him to blush and stutter uncontrollably. I couldn't help but smile, Jason might have the same charm as Daniel, but it is the way he uses it that makes him different from Daniel. "I think you broke him, Jason," I teased. "You called me 'Jason'. You haven't called me that in a while," he said accusingly. "Don't get used to it, Valour. Can you please fix Draco now? You're going to ruin his reputation!" I said amused. "Fine," he said before looking at Draco and snapping his fingers and I practically felt the alluring aura vanish around Draco and he left soon after, looking like a dear caught in headlights. I turned to Jason and saw his look of regret.
"See, the difference between Daniel and me is that while he enjoys seducing people for his own gain I absolutely despise using my charms on people. Don't start on Fred, I never went far enough to make him uncomfortable. Besides I only flirt with people I actually like and want to date eventually, unlike Daniel who will most likely have slept with half of the females in Slytherin by the end of the year," Jason said bitterly. I grabbed his hand, startling him since everyone knows I avoid physical contact with people. "I get it, don't worry. I do hope the rest of your siblings are as charming as you if they do come to Hogwarts as well," I said softly and Jason snorted.
"Not all of them are, luckily Deamon is married and already has two kids. Sebastian is almost as bad as Daniel and H-...I mean my sister is a sweetheart but you'll probably won't ever meet her since Dad has her home-schooled," he said. "Hmm, who's the other brother? You said you had four brothers?" I asked. Jason was about to answer when Daniel interrupted us. "We don't talk about him, since no one has seen him for a few years," said Daniel stiffly. "No, YOU don't talk about him, the rest of us don't have a problem with him. Stop being so stubborn and apologise to him already!" snapped Jason. "How can I if I don't even know where he is?!" Daniel hissed. I listened intently to the peculiar conversation, not realising that they switched to Ancient Romanian.
"Can you please speak English? We don't speak gibberish, although that sounded vaguely like Romanian, none that I can understand either," said Nott impatiently while looking between me and the Valour boys curiously. I jumped. Shit. Did anyone see me following their conversation? I seriously hope not, otherwise, I'm screwed since the language died out thousands of years ago and with it, all manuscripts that were written in that language, making it impossible for future generations to learn it. Jason looked at Nott impressed. "Why yes. We were speaking an older version of Romanian. How'd you figure that out?"
"I read a lot and I excel at languages," said Nott casually. Soon it was time to head towards our next class and I walked to Transfiguration in silence. "Angelique. Meet me at the Black Lake at the end of the day. We need to talk," said Daniel suddenly right next to me. "Huh? Oh, sure. Whatever," I said slightly shaken. How deep was I thinking that I couldn't notice Daniel walking up to me?
***
Daniel was waiting impatiently at the Black Lake when I approached him. Well, I guess it's safe to say this won't be another seducing session considering his stiff posture.
"What took you so long?" he asked. "I had to convince the twins that I didn't need back-up. What do you want, Valour?" I asked, putting extra venom in his last name. "I read your thoughts in my Uncle's office this morning. How did you find out about our Gifted last name?" he asked and I froze.
SHIT.
"YOU READ MY MIND?! THAT'S INVASION OF PRIVACY YOU ASSHOLE!" I screeched at him and he flinched. "Answer the question, Monroe. How did you find out my family's last name is Valentine?" he asked again. I glared at him. "Fine. I'll tell you on one condition. You stay out of me and my friends head from here on!" I snapped. "Fine. I'll stay out. Now, ANSWER ME!" Daniel growled.
"Marauders Map," I spit out.
"What?"
"I said because of the Marauders' Map. The Map never lies and the twins currently own it. They were sneaking out one night when they noticed that there was no mention of any 'Valour' and notified me. I noticed the last name 'Valentine' along with the first names of you, your uncle and your brother. It helped that Jason actually told me about your first name too. All I know about your family is that you guys are one of the first Four, that's all. There are no further mentions about any Valentines in the library so I got to an dead-end," I said angrily.
"That's why you were so tired this morning and why Jason said he never saw you come back last night, you were in the library. You're right. There is no more information about us, even in the Restricted Section. We made sure of that. The Map. Where is it?" Daniel said.
"You're not getting it. No way. Now, if we're done I would like to go to the Owlery, since I ran out of certain school supplies and need to get it ordered," I lied. I need to call Marietta, asap. "Fine. We're done, but I'm letting my uncle and brother know that you and the Weasley twins know," he said before teleporting away. Pfft. Drama Queen. I made my way to the owlery and dialled Marietta's number.
"Hey, what's up?" she asked as soon as she picked up.
"I need all the info on the Valentine family that you know of."
"Mierda! You need to get out of there now, Rosella!"
"Marietta, I asked for information, not advice!"
As she filled me in my heart sank. I'm in so much trouble.
