chapter 13

'Today is a very exciting day!'

'It sure is Carol for today is the day of the Yuuei Sports Festival!'

'Even though the USJ attack happened just a week and a bit ago Yuuei refuses to cancel the Sports Festival.'

'I wonder if this will backfire and Villains will see it as an opportunity attack. Hey Yuji?'

'Well Carol the school has tripled the security and do you see the amount of Pro-heroes here! No Villain would want attack here, unless they have a death wish and if they do there is enough forces to deal with them.'

'AAH yes. So who has shown up today, anyone important, Yuji?

'The top 5 heroes are here! As well as Heroes from around the world, there's the English Hero Britannica and -'

Tomura turns the TV--which had been playing the English news report of all things--off with a sigh.

"Izuku better not blow it. There are too many Pros for him to snap now." He grumbles to himself.

•~•

Ding, ding, ding.

"Midoriya it's time to get up."

I stretch as I slowly sit up,"Thanks." I yawn when Hazama puts my breakfast down. I went straight for the percolator coffee, a delicious Italian blend and then ate the oats, yoghurt and fruit. Shakily I try and stand up but I immediately flop back down due to my head being hit by an imaginary sledgehammer.

Groaning in pain I bury myself under the covers. Why!

"Sir, I mean no disrespect but do you remember the events that happened last night?" Hazama asked with that monotonous voice of his.

"Tomura, Kurogiri and I were meeting with a some Yakuza gang to expand our defences and offences in other areas...and to have extra bodies. Uhh, they accepted and I let them select them weapons from our 'top' collection and then... it's all fuzzy."

Dammit, how drunk was I?

"What did I do?" I moaned as I used the mattress to shuffle myself out of bed.

Hazama handed me some extra strong painkillers and a glass of water. I gratefully took them and popped them all in my mouth.

"It wasn't as bad as the other times sir. I know what you are thinking but you didn't have a drop of alcohol. After the meeting with the yakuza you invited the some of new members to the basement, which they entered through the underground passage way, for a training session with you and Dabi."

I wobbled slowly over to my dresser, the floor still spinning like a child's top.

"And?" I demand, annoyed with his constant dramatic pauses.

"Near the end of the battle one of the more promising ones, Muscular, threw you against the wall when your guard was down. You thoroughly beat him up afterwards but your skull had been cracked so I led you away as soon as I possibly could and patched you up to the best of my ability." Hazama finishes with a bow, as if he had completed a monologue for the Queen of England. Never let it be said that Hazama didn't have dramatic flair, perhaps he had a bit too much.

I nod, as that was all I could do, while he was speaking. Once I was able to stand without the world going out from under me I continued with my morning routine. Stretching, washing, dressing, make-up and then mental preparation, which Hazama helped me with. It's like method acting and UA is my stage.

Something interesting that I've found is that it's a lot easier for a stable person to act unstable then it is for the unstable person to act sane. Which is why it takes so long for me to get into character, I have so little sanity left.

Once everything was done and dusted I was dropped off at the train station and wait for the seven o'clock train, otherwise known as the school train.

"Hey look it's a student from Yuuei!" A girl whispers, about five steps behind me.

"Oh my gosh! Really? Where?" Her friend squeals, excitedly and instantly spots me. I suppress a groan and curl in on myself because now the whole train cart was staring at me with wide eyes as if I had just pulled a rabbit out my underwear.

"Good luck for the sports festival young man!" An elderly woman cheers from my left.

"Can't wait to see how things will go!" A middle aged business man comments on my left or was it from in front of me? I couldn't tell as everyone and their grandmother was yelling questions and words of encouragement at me, I was just getting extremely flustered.

Why! Oh why did I take the train?

"What class are you in?" A preschool boy asks me eagerly, right in my face-- it seems he has a flight or gravity Quirk of some kind--while his embarrassed mother trys to get him away from me but the starry eyed boy was having none of it.

"I-I'm in 1-A." I stammered and the whole cart went quiet, the silence before the storm, before exploding into even more noise. The boy was now clinging to my head, rapidly firing off questions about what fighting Villains were like, did I see All Might and even some very random ones like where UA's toilet seats made out of gold.

I was now clinging to the wall, hyperventilating, near breaking down  and then, "Hey leave him alone!" A spirited voice yelled. The crowd snapping their attention to another girl in UA's uniform. She had straight black hair that was cut into a bob, eyes that continuously changed colour, pale porcelain-like skin and was of rather average height and build.

The crowd took another look at my scared formed and most of them had the decency to look sheepish while the rest just scoffed but they all did back off, returning to whatever else they were doing before harassing me.

"Thank you." I mumbled to the girl. Who just gave me a wink and a nudge as if it say no problem. We sat in a comfortable silence as people got on and off the train until finally we were at UA.

I breathe out a sigh of relief, wave goodbye to the preschooler who was nattering away to his mom and lit up when I gave him a small smile. The girl had disappeared.

I turn my frown into a grin and race to catch up with Uraraka and Iida, who walked here from the dorms--having come back on Sunday.

We enter the classroom, which is rather empty as we are fifteen minutes early due to Iida's insistence. The chatter subsides when Mr Aizawa comes into the class. Early! Mr Aizawa, the teacher who is at least ten minutes late to homeroom every day is five minutes early!

"Today is a very important day. Don't screw up. Go get dressed in your PE uniforms and go to the waiting rooms until we tell you any different." He grumbles in his usual monotone, but he smiles lightly at our nervous expressions and I know that he is silently wishing us good luck.

The bell rings and everyone rushes to the change rooms.

I wait outside for Iida, I was smart and wore my sports kit under my uniform, when Todoroki comes and reminds me that he will 'destroy' me and I just tell him that if he wants to beat me he must give me his all, no half-assing it. He just smirks at me and I stick my tongue out at him like an eight year old.

Somehow, provably because fate has a sick sense of humour, I was the grade representative and I had to give a speech to the whole damn world. It's actually because I, unintentionally, got the highest score on the exam but I'm still blaming Fate.

Time to expend the charisma my dad is well known for and that I hopefully inherited, "T-today is an extremely important day for all us students, the UA sport's festival--the event that will carve our f-future. This event is an amazing opportunity we have all been given, and we only get three of them in our life time. So let's do our best and give it our all! Go Beyond. PLUS ULTRA!" I finish off my pathetic speech with a bright determined smile that I had been practicing but it did little to hide my nervousness. I cringed at the screams and yells that erupted from the crowd and happily hopped down from the podium and away from the spotlight. I desperately wanted to go and scrub myself clean, damned Heroes.

The R-rated hero came up and stated the first event in an overly dramatic voice. (Is everyone in this world a theater kid!)

"The first event is...an obstacle course!"

I smirk as we made our way to the starting line, everyone shoving each other in hopes of getting a head start. On my father's orders I have to do something amazing and memorable but I can't win the festival maybe come in fourth or something but I must be the one that is remembered. This will make my inevitable betrayal even more heart wrenching and shocking. I can already see the headlines!

"GO!" Announced Present Mic.

I am off like a bullet.

Quickly activating Dash, raw energy pulsing through my veins, I zig-zag around the robots unscathed--much to the horror of the other competitors--and using a metal pole I had picked up from the debris I catapult myself onto the other side of the gorge and land textbook perfectly with no trouble at all, I had trained and trained for this!

I clamber over a climbing net like a jungle cat. However, I come to a stop at a large, fearsome river, unsure of what I could do.

Todoroki and Bakugo are hot on my trail! What can I do?

Plans were being made and discarded constantly as I analyzed the river. About 30 metres wide, 10 metres deep and is flowing at approximately 8km/hr. It's an artificial river so it doesn't change width at any point...I have to jump and pray.

I see a scrap piece of metal and quickly pick it up, I had a gut feeling I was going to need this, and strap it to my back. I give it a running start, energy raging through me and my body giving off small sparks, and I leap over the menacing river, with the help of the pole which snapped under the strain and I almost fell in!

The last obstacle: a field filled with explosives. Seriously! Overkill much?

Bakugo and Todoroki rushed passed me, charging head first into the field, either they were unaware of the explosives or didn't care. However, their mad dash had to come to a stop when Bakugo stepped on an explosive launching both of them a couple of metres back. (More like Baka-go than Bakugo.)

According to Present Mic, who was constantly commentating, the explosion packs quite a punch but it is not enough to kill or maim you. Maybe. With that in mind, I frantically dug at the ground and piled up a bunch of the small explosives, placed the sheet of scrap metal on top of it, sat on it and blasted myself to the finish line.

"IN FIRST PLACE: IZUKU MIDORIYA FROM 1A!" Present Mic announces(screeches). Todoroki came in second and Bakugo came in third. Serves them right for not using their heads! Just I was starting to celebrate Midnight shot me down by announcing the following event.

The next event is a cavalry battle and, since I came first, I'm the one everyone is going to be out to get because I am worth 10 million points!
So obviously no one wants to be on my team, or at least no one is approaching me. Iida shot me down but I managed to persuade Uraraka and Tokoyami to be on my team. Then a girl named Mei Hatsume jumped in front of us and declared she was on my team--so she could show off her 'babies'. Since I myself tinker around with weapons and machines, I was enthusiastically looking at all her gadgets. She and I made a deal and agreed to meet up later for some good old tinkering, inventing and debating (arguing).

"Times up!" Midnight and Present Mic yell in unison.

I sat on the top, weightless, thanks to Uraraka's Quirk. Tokoyami at the back with Mei and Uraraka at the front. As soon as the bell sounds we race off, immediately on defense, as everyone goes for my team. We dodge, we dive, and we even manage to snag some head bands.

•~•

We are sitting at 10020790. First place. Even if we lose the 10 million head band we'd still advance to the other round, barely, but I don't want to squeeze in. I want a concrete spot.

There are only a few teams left.

I put the ten million head band around my neck. Bakugo had gotten it early on but I quickly got it back, on the downside;however, he destroyed one of Mei's rocket shoes, so we only had one. I can work with that.

Then there were five teams left.

I'm rapidly instructing the others what to do and where to attack, we abuse all their weak spots. Todoroki's especially--his right side. In the last minute Todoroki's team charges forward and Todoroki uses his fire side to get past Dark Shadow.
But Uraraka floats us high above them and Mei uses her remaining rocket to propel us to the other side. It's not enough though because Iida reveals his secret move and blasts over to us and grabs the head band around my neck. They were victorious.

The gong sounds, and we all collapse to the ground in exhaustion.

"WHAT AN ADRENALINE DRIVEN GAME!!" Present Mic comments in his overly loud and excited voice.

"We will be announcing the winners in a bit. Go cool off and get some water." Midnight tells all the students.

We all nod tiredly and go and refresh and clean up.

•~•

"Why did Izuku let that bastard take his headband he could have easily stopped that!" Tomura yells in exasperation to Kurogiri who just shrugs and goes back to cleaning the shot glasses.

"What was the point! What are you pulling there Midoriya?" Shigaraki asks the screen with narrowed eyes.

Back at Yuuei the students are anxiously lined up and awaiting the results.

"So the moment you have all been waiting for," A drum roll sounds from the speakers, "In 4th place team Shinso?" Midnight says, surprised and so is everyone else--excluding Shinso-- even the team seems shocked at this and a bit disoriented, I wonder why?

"In third place: team Bakugo." Midnight discretely darts Bakugo with a compacted version of her Quirk, so he doesn't rampage everywhere and make UA look bad.

"In second place, oh this is a surprise. How did he? Oh, I see now. Hmm, clever." Midnight mutters before smiling coyly.

The crowd is curious, what was going on?

My team was apologising to each other and making excuses and so on so forth. I just watched. Tokoyami reveals that dark shadow had stolen a 700 point band from Momo.

"You honestly think we lost, don't worry. You'll see." I assure them with a gentle smile and confident words. Which calmed them down slightly and made them even more curious.

"In second place Team Todoroki, which means team Midoriya is first!" Midnight says eventually.

"WHAT!" All the students yell as well as some of the audience.

All the students are gobsmacked and a few are seething with rage.

"As you all seem confused, Midoriya please come up and explain." She says while scanning for me in the crowd.

I chuckle nervously from behind her,"I'm over here." She jolts and let's out a muffled squeak.

"Well then," she clears throat, "please explain what you did to your confused peers." She handed me the microphone.

"Well it w-was pretty simple actually. I just used some sleight of hand and mind games. They grabbed the 10000 head band, thinking it was the 10 million. You see they saw me p-putting the 10 million headband around my neck but it didn't stay there. While we were in the air I slipped the 10 million head band to Mei, and she gave me her 10 thousand headband." I smile at them sheepishly while they just stare at me disbelief and annoyance clear in their eyes. Good thing that Bakugo isn't awake.

I quickly hop off the stage before they start throwing things at me and Midnight shooes us all away.

I can't wait to see what the rest of the festival has in store!

A/N

So what did you guys think. Please comment and tell me your thoughts.
