Synopsis

I was with my mom the first time I saw a ghost. At first she thought it was me trying to get attention or something like that. I was the only child and so I received a lot of love in my younger years. Later on, as I grew older, did she realize it was a cry for help.

It didn't matter if I was simply watching my favorite cartoon or about to go to bed. It never did.

They were there. always watching me. Especially when I closed my eyes. Those times were the worst.

I was ghost free for twelve years and then -bam-. One day I see my favorite English teachers ghost. It turns out he did not die the way everyone said. Avalon-my aunt- possessed him to get to me.

After that I had to come to the terms with the fact that they were coming to me when I was awake.

I'd always felt haunted. Cursed. Like maybe I should have been born a different person on a different day.

Id always felt like there was something heavy on my shoulders. A burden.

I had always wondered what it was about me that made ghosts come to me no matter the day.

Starkhouse was supposed to be a place where bad kids go to get rehabilitized. Its their where I learned that my mom was enrolled as a student and even more, she was a part of a secret society of alumnis. The black rose. A pact dregged deep in secrecy and magic.

So far I learned two things;

Magic is real

And no one is who they claim to be.

if you don't cut it, well, then youre out.

back to the current present moment...

"The great founder was buried deep in the church. Or so legend says. Legend has it that in the witching hour you can see and hear a man wandering the campus looking for his treasue. Treasure that once kept the balance between good and evil. Again this is all speculation. Don't take any of this to heart." warned Maya.

A girls hand shot up. "Does it always have to be a bad omen?" Asked the girl with mousy brown hair. She had oval shaped glasses and was writing down notes in her little yellow pad.

The headmistress, our dean of pledges, ordered me and maya to take a group of potential class members around the campus. Maya really had the people engaged in the history of Starkhouse.

Even I was awed by some of the things she re-iterated.

"I mean who says magic is even real?" Another one said, a guy this time. All tooth and cheek. His pearly whites contrasting his sun-kissed skin tone.

The Headmistress wanted us to give the grand tour. These kids were potential recruits. Some with great potential was all that she had mentioned.

Basically we were the entertainment.

"Why don't you stick around and find out." Maya winked.
