Chapter 30
(Mark's P.O.V.)
It's been a week since the whole desk thing. And also a week since anyone has actually heard Jack's voice. Every day he comes to school, sits in that classroom all by himself, and then walks home and locks himself in his room. At least, that's what I've been told. I've given up talking to him. I never get a reply, so I see no reason to be there anymore. It is concerning, and I wish I could do more to help. But I can't. I just wish I knew who was bullying him, so I could "ask" them why...
"Mark!" I spin around, finding who was calling me. I'm practicing for the fourth and fifth nights for the very popular FNAF musicals put together by my good friends AJ and Peter, and so the last week that's all I've been doing after school.
We've gotten to the point of doing rehearsals on stage, even though we aren't filming here. We have a set set up at AJ's house. But for now, we're practicing here. I've already got my lines down, and I've memorized the songs so I can lip sync since that's what I'll be doing in the actual recording. I'm still a little rusty on some of the moves, and I sometimes miss a few beats. But I mean, I'm pretty sure I'm doing okay.
"Yeah?" I ask, watching as Peter walks up to me. He points behind him, towards backstage.
"AJ wants to talk to you." He says, and I only nod and walk quickly backstage, passing by Sparrow in the process.
"Oh! Wait! Mark!" I turn to her, watching as she holds up a knife.
"This is the prop you're using at the end of night four. It isn't a real knife, but it's still fairly sharp so be careful, mk?" She makes sure. I nod.
"Yeah, of course." I say, turning and walking away yet again. We're using props tomorrow, that's right... Finally I reach back stage, where AJ is standing and talking to a couple other people. I wait, watching as he directs them as to where to go and what to do. And then he finishes up, turns around, and smiles at me.
"Mark! Awesome! I need to talk to you." He says. I nod, walking over to him.
"So I've been told. What's up?" I ask, and he just waves, motioning for me to follow him.
"Well, to be honest, I'm a little concerned." He says, heading towards the props closet. I frown, leaning on the doorframe with my arms crossed.
"Concerned? Why?" I ask. He turns, looking at me with one of the puppets in his hand.
"Because Mark, the last practice we did, you missed three of your queues, forgot four of your lines, and didn't know what to do at the end of the fourth night." He points out, obviously agitated. I can't help but look down at the ground in shame. He's right. I haven't been doing my best lately. "And I don't have to point out how unlikely that is for you." He continues. I look back up at him, to see him looking at me with worry. "Mark, what's going on?" He asks softly, the agitation gone away. I uncross my arms, shaking my head.
"I'm just distracted..." I whisper, not lying but not telling the whole truth. But apparently I don't have to.
"It's Jack, isn't it?" He asks. My eyes widen, and I nod slowly.
"Yeah... How'd you know?" AJ chuckles, putting the puppet back and walking over, leaning on the doorframe across from me.
"I heard about what happened with his desk. News travels quickly. And I know how much you cared for him. How much you do care for him." It's silent for a second, neither of us talking. "How is he doing?" He asks then, quietly, as if he's afraid I'll lash out or something. But I just shake my head, sighing. I run my hand through my already messy hair.
"Not good. He's broken, AJ. Completely broken." I say, staring at the ground. I hear him inhale, and then exhale slowly, whistling at the end.
"Well, I don't blame him. Apparently he's been through a lot of shit." He says and I nod, chuckling.
"Yeah, well that's an understatement." I say back, looking up at him with soft eyes. "I don't know. I want to help. But I can't! He won't let me help him, and I don't know who did it so I can't ask what exactly they did. Plus, I know for a fact Jack is mad at me because he thinks I did something, but I don't know what that something is! And I really, really want to fix it and make him feel better but I have no clue how and I hate it!"
Silence. Absolute silence after my rant is over. I sigh, once again staring at the ground. AJ seems to think over everything I just said before humming softly.
"Well, you really do have a lot on your mind, don't you?" He asks and I nod, not even trying to hide it anymore. "I don't really know how to help. I mean, I'm sorry this happened. But if you want advice, maybe you should go ask Nate and Matt. After all, they've been a couple here for years and seem okay." And that's when I realize. Yeah.. Nate and Matt are together. I look up at AJ with a smile.
"Thanks." I say and he nods.
"No problem." And with that I walk away to go talk with Nate and Matt.
A/N: Ten chapters left. I honestly just wanna crank out these chapters and get it for you guys to read. You guys deserve it after waiting so long. So I'll update a few chapters per day till we finish. Love ya all <3 =)
also to clear it up "Matt" is "MatPat" and I know some people will yell at me for not doing it "Mat" but I was really tired when I wrote this and meh, it's still the same thing.
