Chapter 10

(Jack's P.O.V.)

The bell above the door gives out a shrill little ring once Mark and I walk into the café, alerting everyone that more people walked through the door. Ms. June is the first to see us, and she smiles as soon as she does.

"Hello boys! Why are you here today? Mark doesn't have work." She says, checking the calendar to make sure. Mark chuckles.

"No, I forgot my jacket here yesterday. Plus we wanted to see Ann." He says. Ms. June nods, understanding.

"Well she's on her break. Hanging out in the back on her phone." She says. I smile.

"Thanks Ms. June!" She nods back in response, and before either of us think about it Mark and I are quickly walking towards the back room. As soon as we enter we see Ann, on her phone per usual, just lounging on the couch eating cookies.

"Save some of those for me!" Mark scolds and Ann quickly looks up, putting her phone away. Though her shocked expression is quickly replaced with a smile.

"Hey! Didn't think I'd see you guys here today." She says, standing and giving the both of us a hug. "Nice to see you Jack." She says. I nod.

"Good to see you too." I reply, smiling. Because of school I haven't seen Ann for two weeks so it's nice to see her again. Mark sees her every other day, so the hug was just cause why not.

"Ann, quick question before we move on, why haven't you been in school?" Mark asks, asking the question that's been on both of our minds. Ann sighs, taking off her apron and hanging it up.

"Well, I've been finishing up summer school. Had to get my grades up high enough to enroll in your school. Did you know how many damn points you needed in math to enroll? Like... God damn..." She trails off, chuckling slightly. I shrug, honestly not knowing but math has never been a problem for me so I have no reason to know.

"You will be in school though, right?" I ask. She nods, smiling.

"Yeah, definitely. Next week actually." Her smile widens. "God I can't wait to be in school with you guys. Even though I'll be a year below you." She shrugs and Mark chuckles, agreeing. It's silent for a moment, only the sound from the café filling the empty silence.

And then I notice Ann, just staring at me. Or more precisely, staring at my outfit. I look down at my own outfit, smiling slightly. I have on black ripped jeans, a leather jacket, boots, and a dark blue t-shirt with a skull on the front. Oh yeah, and a beanie.

"Damn. Badass Jack." She smiles, nodding slightly at my outfit. "I like it. A lot."

"Thanks." I say, smiling as well. I stand confident in my outfit, smiling at Ann. And then I feel a pair of arms around me. I turn to see Mark hugging me from behind and I close my eyes, leaning into the embrace. I feel his breath on my ear as he comes closer and whispers to me.

"I can't believe Ann is so happy to see you in this outfit when all I can think about is how much I want to see you out of it." My eyes snap open and I tense, absolutely frozen. My thoughts are just those words over and over again as I listen to what goes on around me without taking part. Mark starts laughing, quickly making Ann laugh as well.

"Do I even want to know what you said to him?" Ann laughs, staring at me as I blush profusely.

"No, you probably don't." Mark laughs, wrapping his arms around me again, but I'm still frozen. "Jack. Come on, it was a joke." He says, shaking me a bit before whispering again, "Kind of." And that's when I snap out of it, turning around and smacking his arm.

"God damn it Mark!" I screech, making all three of us burst into a new round of laughter. After all three of us calm down, it's silent once more. Until...

"Oh yeah, why did you guys come here? Cause, as much as I know you love me, you don't normally just stop by." Ann says, staring at us with a smile and one eyebrow raised. I glance over at Mark who points to the coat rack.

"I forgot my jacket and it's gonna be cold tomorrow." He says. Ann nods, walking over to the coat rack and grabbing Mark's jacket, throwing it to him afterwards.

"Fair enough. Now, I will see you two next week. Get out, I have work to do." She says and I fake offense, putting a hand to my chest.

"I am hurt. I thought you were my best friend!" I sniff, faking sadness, which just makes Ann laugh.

"Nope. He's your best friend. Now, go home and make out or whatever." I squeak a bit, an involuntary noise, but smile nonetheless. Mark just smirks.

"Already our plan. See ya Ann!" He says, taking my hand and dragging me out the door.

"Wait! I was... I was joking..." I look at Ann just as shakes her head, chuckling. "Idiots. They're to cute." She mumbles before grabbing her apron and getting back to work as Mark and I walk out of the café.

A/N: Okay! Just real quick! Don't expect many updates! I'm still working pretty slowly on this. I just wanted to get these out, cause this chapter is the last of the introductory. Starting next chapter, we actually start getting into the plot of this. And I'm SO EXCITED! Haha! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed! =) <3
