The Untouched

The sun was setting as the group moved cautiously through the overgrown city streets, the air thick with tension. Walkers shuffled aimlessly, their guttural moans filling the silence.

Song Ji Hyo walked near the back of the group, her knife gripped tightly in her hand. She was careful, like the others, watching every shadow, every movement.

They turned a corner, and that’s when it happened. A walker lunged out from behind a wrecked car, its decaying hands clawing toward Ji Hyo. She barely had time to react before it sank its teeth into her arm.

“No!” Glenn shouted, sprinting toward her.

Daryl fired an arrow, the walker collapsing instantly. But it was too late. Ji Hyo stood frozen, staring at the bite on her arm.

Rick rushed over, his face grim. “We need to move. Now.”

The group retreated to a nearby building, barricading the doors and windows. Ji Hyo sat on a dusty chair, silent, as the group gathered around her.

“Let me see,” Carol said gently, kneeling beside her. Ji Hyo extended her arm, revealing the bite mark. The skin was broken, but there was no swelling, no discoloration.

“You’re not turning,” Maggie said, her voice tinged with disbelief.

“It’s only been a few minutes,” Rick said cautiously. “It could still happen.”

But as the hours passed, Ji Hyo remained the same. No fever. No chills. Nothing.

“What the hell is going on?” Daryl muttered, pacing the room.

Ji Hyo finally spoke, her voice quiet. “Why am I not… changing?”

Glenn knelt in front of her, his expression a mix of relief and confusion. “I don’t know, but whatever it is, it’s not normal.”

The group fell into a tense silence, each of them grappling with the implications.

“You think she’s immune?” Michonne asked, breaking the silence.

Rick ran a hand through his hair. “Maybe. We’ve never seen anything like this before. But we can’t jump to conclusions.”

“I’ve been bitten,” Ji Hyo said, her voice trembling. “Doesn’t that mean… I should be turning?”

“You should be,” Carol said softly. “But you’re not. That means something.”

Daryl stopped pacing, his eyes narrowing. “If she’s immune, then she’s… she’s different. Valuable. People are gonna want to know about this. People like the Governor, or worse.”

Rick nodded. “We keep this quiet. No one outside this group knows. Understood?”

Everyone nodded, though the weight of the situation hung heavy over them.

Ji Hyo looked down at her arm, her mind racing. She didn’t feel special. She didn’t feel immune. She felt scared.

“What if this is a fluke?” she asked. “What if I still turn later?”

“You won’t,” Glenn said firmly. “We’ll keep an eye on you, but I know you’re going to be okay.”

The group settled in for the night, though no one could truly relax. Ji Hyo sat by the window, staring out at the walkers below. She didn’t feel like a miracle or a savior—just a person caught in a cruel twist of fate.

But as the moon rose, casting its light over the city, she made a silent promise to herself and the group. If she was immune, if she truly was different, then she’d use it to help them. To fight for a world where they didn’t have to live in fear anymore.

The world might be broken, but she was still here. And maybe, just maybe, she was the key to fixing it.
