The girl and The Hummer
The woods were eerily quiet except for the crunch of leaves under the group's boots. Daryl led the way with his crossbow in hand, Rick close behind, while everyone else fanned out cautiously.
Suddenly, the distant sound of blaring music shattered the stillness.
“What the hell?” Shane muttered, stopping in his tracks.
The group froze, their eyes darting around as the music grew louder. It was heavy, thumping bass paired with rock guitar riffs, a noise completely out of place in the apocalyptic silence.
“Is that… music?” Glenn asked, his face a mix of confusion and disbelief.
“Sure sounds like it,” said T-Dog, gripping his weapon tighter. “Who the hell would play music out here?”
“Someone stupid,” Daryl growled, squinting toward the sound. “Or someone with a death wish.”
“Or both,” Shane added, shaking his head.
As the music grew louder, the group began to hear something else: the unmistakable groans and shuffling of walkers.
“They’re attracting a horde,” Maggie said, her voice rising with alarm.
“Get down!” Rick ordered, motioning for everyone to crouch behind the trees.
The sound of an engine joined the cacophony, and moments later, a massive black Hummer H1 came barreling through the woods. The vehicle’s sleek, armored exterior was scratched and muddy, but it roared with power as it sped past the group.
On the back of the Hummer was an enormous speaker system blasting music at deafening levels.
“What the hell is that?” Carol gasped, peeking out from behind a tree.
“Looks like someone’s got a party on wheels,” Merle said, smirking.
“More like a death trap,” Daryl muttered, watching as the Hummer disappeared down a narrow path.
Behind the vehicle, a massive horde of walkers stumbled and staggered after it, drawn by the blaring music.
“Whoever’s driving that thing is leading the walkers,” Rick said, his voice filled with realization. “They’re baiting them.”
“Baiting them where?” Beth asked nervously.
“I don’t know,” Rick replied, “but we need to find out. Let’s move.”
The group cautiously followed the sound of the music, staying out of sight of the horde. As they emerged from the trees, they saw the Hummer parked near the edge of a deep gorge.
Standing on top of the vehicle was a woman. She had long, dark hair that whipped around her face as the wind picked up. She wore a fitted black jacket, combat boots, and a determined expression.
She held a flare in one hand, waving it to ensure the walkers followed her toward the edge.
“Who the hell is that?” Shane asked, narrowing his eyes.
“No idea,” Rick said, stepping forward, “but we’re about to find out.”
The group watched in stunned silence as the woman timed her movements perfectly. She jumped back into the Hummer just as the horde reached the edge, and with a roar of the engine, she sped to the side, causing the walkers to stumble and fall into the gorge below.
As the last of the walkers tumbled into the abyss, the woman shut off the music and stepped out of the vehicle, brushing dirt off her hands.
“Damn,” Glenn muttered. “She just took out an entire horde by herself.”
“Who does that?” Maggie asked, her voice filled with equal parts awe and confusion.
The woman turned and spotted the group. For a moment, her expression was unreadable, but then she broke into a smile and walked toward them.
“Hi,” she said in accented English, waving casually.
Rick stepped forward, his hand resting on his gun. “Who are you?”
“Song Jihyo,” she replied confidently. “And you’re welcome.”
“Welcome?” Shane echoed, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes,” Jihyo said, gesturing to the gorge. “I just saved your lives. That horde was heading this way.”
The group exchanged incredulous glances.
“Wait a minute,” Merle said, chuckling. “You’re tellin’ me you’re out here, all by yourself, playin’ DJ for walkers?”
Jihyo shrugged. “Someone has to do it.”
“That’s insane,” Carol said, her voice filled with disbelief.
“Maybe,” Jihyo replied, flashing a mischievous grin. “But it works.”
Daryl stepped closer, eyeing her warily. “Why?”
Jihyo tilted her head. “Why what?”
“Why are you doin’ this?” Daryl asked. “You ain’t got no group? No one watchin’ your back?”
Jihyo’s smile faltered slightly. “I had a group,” she said quietly. “They didn’t make it. Now I just… keep going.”
The group fell silent, her words sinking in.
“Well,” Rick said after a moment, “you’re welcome to come with us. Safety in numbers.”
Jihyo hesitated, her gaze flickering between them and her Hummer. Finally, she nodded. “Alright,” she said. “But I’m keeping my car.”
Rick chuckled. “Fair enough.”
As the group began to move, Jihyo climbed back into her Hummer, driving slowly alongside them.
“Alright,” Merle said, smirking as he glanced at the vehicle. “I like her.”
“I’m not so sure,” Shane muttered, still suspicious.
But as Jihyo drove beside them, her confident demeanor and resourcefulness left an impression on everyone.
It wasn’t every day you met someone crazy enough—and brave enough—to take on a horde with a Hummer and a speaker system.
