the lost memories

Tessa's p.o.v:

I studied Jems room, knowing that's why Will picked this room to sleep in. "Tess, is it okay if we sleep here tonight?" I saw Will's eyes light up at the memory of Jem- I couldn't say no. "Yeah, but I'm just going to walk around and get some of my memories refreshed in my mind." I kissed Will lightly, and headed off into the hallway. "Goodnight, Will." I shut the door, leaving me and my memories the only ones in the hallway.

As I swiftly walked along the corridor where my room laid, I noticed Charlotte painted a mural. The wall had a big picture of us fighting the clockwork devices. Memories of that battle came flooding into my mind, and I let out a little gasp. Almost fainting to the floor, steady hands caught me. I turned around in confusion, and stared at Will. His blue eyes were tired, and I could tell Will wanted to lay down on bed and fall asleep. "Tessa, are you okay? You almost fainted." Will had worry spread all over his face. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's just-" Will carefully pushed my dangling hair out if my face. His soft hands glided along my cheek as Will stuck the hair where it belonged. "Much better. Sorry Tess, I cut you off." Will politely added. I smiled at him, and how polite he was. "It's fine, William. But, just look at this murual." Will's eyes darted to the wall. I saw his eyes moving around, absorbing all of the memories. "Now I see why you were so startled. You were probably getting memories shot back at you, and it was too much. Or, you just might be really tired." Will suggested sweetly. I knew he wanted me to go to bed, but I had to explore some more. "Sorry Will, but I'm going to keep walking around the institute." He kissed the top of my head, and set down the hallway in the opposite direction. "Good night Tess." Just like before, I recalled, when I did goodnight to Will. I didn't answer, because like before, Will didn't reply either.

Now that my mind was all cleared and fresh, I wanted to stock up on more memories. I pushed my hand against the wall, trying to find a dooorknob since it was too dark to see. Finally, my hand grasped onto a rusty doorknob, where my room lead into. Taking a deep breath, I twisted my hand, and the door slowly creaked open.
My bed was the same as before, along with all of the other decorations. It seemed as if no one has touched this room since I've been in here-its like Charlotte saved this room for me.
My heart fluttered as I opened my favorite book. A tale of two cities. I remembered the note that Will tucked inside this book, and immediately slammed the book open. The pages were flying as I turned every one, but I couldn't find the note. My heart started to beat faster and faster as I nearly checked the whole book, and still found no note. I carefully placed the book down on the table and began shuffling everything around to find this note. Under the beds, nothing. In the drawers of many dressers, nothing. Under the clothes that laid on bed, nothing. Finally, I gave up, and maybe thought it was with Will. I hurried down the hallway into our room. Will was sleeping, but woke up when I stepped on a loose floorboard that sounded as if it got sick. "Come to finally go to sleep?" Will hopefully asked. I stepped closer to Will, pushed the sheets back and told him to search his pockets. He didn't ask, but he probably knew what was up. "Nothing." All of his pockets were sagging out of his shirt, with nothing in them. I sighed and soon joined William on the airy, fluffy bed. But, I noticed the lamp was on next to me, so I quickly reached over to the nightstand to turn it off. Just then,I got distracted, and noticed the note from Will that I was looking for. Maybe Will brought it, but placed it on my nightstand?  I thought quickly in my head. "Will," I held up the note, "did you bring this?" Will groggily got up and looked at the note. "No." He flipped back on his side and fell asleep. Wow, Will is really tired. Remembering that I reached over the nightstand to turn off the light, I did that, but had a big thought on my mind that wouldn't let me sleep.

Why would Jem have our note?
