Chapter 9

Bellona shifted uncomfortably as Caspian joined her. The last time she spoke to him, she was angry and probably would've killed him. Part of her wondered if it was smart to continue sharpening her swords with him present.

"I want to apologize for my outburst." She finally spoke after a few moments of silence. Out of the corner of her eyes, she could see Caspian looking at her. "I was angry and it was uncalled for to take it on you." And Peter, but Peter needed to hear some of the things she said to him.

"You were angry," Caspian agreed with that part of what she said. "And you were right about one thing. Those were your people, fellow Narnians, that we lost."

Bellona could only nod in agreement before continuing with sharpening her swords. "Did you apologize to Peter as well?"

Bellona chuckled before shaking her head. "Peter needed to hear some of those things." She explained before lifting a sword and examining it. She really wished Kirke was there with them. This would be her first fight without him by her side. It felt like she was missing part of her armor, her shield.

As of that moment, that Bellona knew of, Edmund was meeting with Miraz about a duel with Peter. The duel was what Caspian believed would buy them time, the tradition that Miraz couldn't deny.

And a duel was to come, for Miraz indeed couldn't deny it. Not after Edmund made some comment about a king being half the age of Miraz.

Not long did Caspian left Bellona to help prepare Lucy and Susan for their travel. Bellona sheathed her swords, but sat and stared at the fire burning on the torches.

She knew if she had stayed behind, she would be dead at this point. None of this would be a concern of hers. The what-if occurred multiple times a day, sometimes.

What if Bellona didn't go with Peter? What if she pulled her hand away from him? What would have happened if she stayed behind with Kirke? Would the Telmarines still have won their invasion?

What if Bellona had gone with Aslan instead of staying behind?

"You ready, Your Majesty?" Bellona glanced to the side, surprised to see Trumpkin.

"I'm no Queen," she told him while getting up from the ground. "I'm Aslan's child." She corrected him.

"Well, they need you out there, child of Aslan." Bellona nodded at him before heading out to where the duel would be happening. She was to wait there for Edmund and Peter. Upon seeing Miraz, though, it took all her restraint to not fight him herself.

This was Peter's duel, not hers.

Narnians cheered behind her. Edmund and Peter must already be making their way out. The duel would be starting soon no doubt.

"Finish him," Bellona told Peter as he took his sword from Edmund. He didn't say anything as he took his spot. Peter and Miraz circled each other, neither of them making the first move.

Swords clashed with shields when both males made their first move. Bellona watched them carefully, ready to take action if foul play happened.

"If you guys go back, I won't be going back with you," Bellona spoke quietly to Edmund. This was the first of she spoke these thoughts to someone. "Narnia is my home and she needs me." She explained.

It was no surprise that Edmund didn't respond to her. He did, to her surprise, nod his head. Was this something that was no surprise for him?

Bellona cringed as Peter groaned in pain. She could've sworn she heard his should pop out of place. Peter still put up a fight, despite the pain he must be feeling.

The neighing of a horse grabbed Bellona's attention. Caspian came riding in with Susan behind him. Lucy wasn't with them, so it could only mean that she managed to get ahead with no trouble. Still, it would be better if someone was there to protect the girl.

Peter limped over to their side just as Caspian and Susan joined them. Bellona looked behind them at the Narnians. They were watching them carefully. She didn't want them to lose any hope of winning.

"Keep smiling," Edmund muttered.

Peter did so, raising his sword at the Narnians. They cheered at the sight of their High King. Bellona let Caspian and Edmund take care of Peter while she stood off to the side.

"Finish him," she repeated herself to Peter as he went back into the circle.

Their fighting was more aggressive this round. Hits were more dirty compared to the first round. Miraz threw punches with his shield. Peter only had his sword for both offense and defense.

Peter threw a hit where he had pierced Miraz. The pain of the older male brought cheering among the Narnians. Bellona couldn't help but smile at the hit.

The older male knelt while Peter stood above him. Did they win? They must've, even if Peter was hesitating.

"Nows not the time for chivalry, Peter!" Edmund told his brother upon noticing the hesitation from Peter.

"Finish him," Bellona muttered, her hand gripping the hilt of her sword. Instead, Peter walked past the down king.

"Peter!"
"Look out!"

Miraz grabbed his sword as he slowly stood up and swung it at Peter. Peter, luckily, was able to dodge the attack. He spun around, turning the blade with him, and stabbed Miraz in the stomach. Peter stood up and pulled the sword out, holding it as if he were to bring the final blow.

"What's wrong boy, too cowardly to take a life?" Miraz questioned the young King.

Peter paused before dropping the blade. "It's not mine to take," he said before holding the sword out and looking at Caspian.

"Finish him," Bellona told Caspian as he walked over to take Peter's place. He held the blade high, a hand on top of the blade to guide it through.

Caspian screamed before piercing the blade into the ground. Had it Bellona, Miraz's head would be off of his shoulders.

"I'm not like you," Caspian spoke quietly to Miraz before leaving the man kneeling. "Keep your life, but I am giving the Narnians back their kingdom." He joined them back at their side, Narnians cheering at their victory.

"Yeah, let's just not listen to Bellona," the female muttered quietly as their back was turned to the Telmarines. There was a gasp and Bellona quickly turned to see a Narnian arrow in the back of Miraz. Narnians knew better than to fire without order from someone. Plus, Bellona wished it was her blade and not some arrow that did the dead.

"Treachery!" One of Miraz's men yelled out, pointing to the Narnians. "They shot him!"

"Get ready!" Peter yelled as Bellona pulled her swords out of their sheaths. She spun them, glaring at the Telmarine army ahead of them. Boulders went flying through the air, hitting the ground around them.

Horses came galloping towards them. She waited as Peter counted to ten, tensed as Peter announced for them to get ready. Telmarines would face the wrath of the Narnians.

Ground beneath the horses crumbled beneath them. Narnian arrows pierced through men and horses as they tried to get out of the landfall.

Bellona went running towards the Telmarines, swinging her swords as men tried to escape the pit. It brought her much joy as she kicked some men in the faces, them flying backward in front of her.

"Filthy Narnian," a Telmarine uttered to Bellona before she sliced him across the body.

"Filthy Telmarine," she uttered, spitting on the dead body before continuing her fight.

It didn't matter how many men they defeated, there were still more men on foot that were marching towards the fighting. Peter's voice was faint, but he called for them to go back to the How. Bellona curled her lips in anger before following the command.

Narnians ran beside her. The How was within reach for some. More boulders were being thrown their way, now more directed to the How.

"NO!" Bellona screamed. She couldn't help but watch as the entrance of the How crumbled and debris fell onto Narnians. More of them lost in this fight.

Bellona joined Peter, Susan, Caspian, and Edmund, of all them staring at the approaching army. Her chest heaved with every breath she took. Just as they were about to take off running, an ear-piercing roar ripped through the air.
