Chapter 8

The sight of Lucy running out to meet them was the only thing that made Bellona calm down a bit. She still wanted to see Miraz dead, but that feeling was pushed aside.

Their entire trek was a grim one. Bellona had been right about one thing: they left Narnians behind for dead.

"What happened?" Lucy asked, a small part of her already knowing the answer. They failed.

"Ask him," Peter spat out, not bothering to look at Caspian.

"Peter."
"Me?"

Caspian looked at Peter in disbelief. "You could've called it off, there was time!"

"No, there wasn't, thanks to you." Peter fired back at Caspian. "If you kept to the plan, those soldiers might still be alive."

"If you'd stayed here like I suggested, they definitely would be!" Caspian snapped.

"You called us, remember?"

"My first mistake."

"No, your first mistake was thinking you could lead these people."

Bellona wasn't sure what took over her, but she pulled both her swords out, each pointing at both leaders. "It's both of your faults!" She spat out, glaring at one before glaring at the other. "If we'd stayed behind or retreated when we had the time, then the Narnians would still be alive," she looked to Peter before looking to Caspian. "And if we had stuck to the plan, some might still be alive." She sheathed her weapons before continuing to walk into the How.

"Bell," Peter called out. "Bell!"

"What?!" She snapped, turning to face him. "What could you possibly want right now Peter? For me to apologize? Our people, my people, were slaughtered because you had to prove something! Please tell me what you want to prove because I have no idea!"

Bellona's chest heaved as she stared at Peter with cold eyes. She turned away from him, descending back into the How.

The two males continued to argue, but Bellona didn't have it in her to hear it. She felt broken and defeated, and only one thing could possibly make her feel better.

She leaned against a wall in the How, eyes closing shut as tears streamed down her face. What hope do they have anyway? They were nowhere close to working as a true army. They were divided within themselves. They'll kill each other before the Telmarines have the chance to fight them.

"Bellona," the female quickly wiped tears off her face before looking to the Pevensies. "It's Caspian," Edmund explained before hurrying after Peter. Bellona followed them, pulling a sword out in the process.

She stopped in the doorway of where the Stone Table was, eyes widening before narrowing at the sight of the White Witch within a wall of ice.

"Get Caspian," Bellona demanded of Peter after running her whole body into that of some Old Narnia creature. She didn't give him time to respond for she sliced the creature's head clean off of its body.

"Get away from him!" Peter ordered the White Witch, knocking Caspian out of the carved circle.

Bellona stood by Caspian, helping the male to his feet. Why was Peter hesitating? Why wouldn't he force his sword right through the wall of ice?

The wall of ice cracked before breaking with a shriek from the witch. Edmund stood behind it, having done the simple deed. "I know, you had it under control." He told Peter before walking out. Bellona shook her head at Peter before following after Edmund.

She stopped just at the entryway, staring at the carving of Aslan. He wouldn't approve of this.

Bellona stood just outside the How, checking the skies for Kirke. How long has it been since he started his search? Telmarines were spotted marching towards the How earlier that day. How long do they have before the battle starts?

"Bell," Bellona closed her eyes at Peter's voice. Once, it was music to her ears. Now, it brought nothing but pain. "What you said before,"

"I'm not apologizing," Bellona spoke with a cold voice.

"I know. I wasn't expecting you to." Peter told her, the pair standing in silence.

"I don't know what it is that you have against Caspian, but we need his help," Bellona told Peter, not looking at him. "This fight is nothing like we've faced before. We don't know the enemy like Caspian does."

Peter sighed before asking, "So what do you want me to do then?"

"Telmarines are on their way, no doubt about that." Bellona pointed out, finally looking at him. "Put whatever it is you're trying to prove aside and take the help from others," Bellona demanded of him before heading back inside the How.

They gathered around the Stone Table, discussing the next plan they had. It was something that Trumpkin did not approve of.

"Sending a little girl-"

"Queen of Narina," Bellona corrected Trumpkin only to receive a glare from him.

"-into the darkest parts of the forest? Alone!"

"It's our only chance," Peter argued.

"And she won't be alone," Susan added.

Too many have been lost, but Lucy has been the only one that hasn't lost hope. She was the only hope they had left.

"For Aslan," Reepicheep announced while bringing out his sword.

"For Aslan!" Came the deep voice of a bear.

"For Aslan," Bellona mumbled, staring down at the table.

"We have to hold the Telmarines off until Lucy and Susan get back," Peter told the group.

"If I may," Caspian spoke up. He looked at his professor before getting up off the ground. "Miraz may be a tyrant and a murderer...but as king, he is subject to the traditions and expectations of his people." Bellona raised an eyebrow at this. An idea might be coming. "There is one that might buy us enough time."
