Chapter 5
Bellona didn't know what to think. She could only crouch behind a stack of lumber with the Pevensies and Trumpkin, watching as Telmarines built a bridge across the rushing river. So much for swimming across.
While she might die or get captured, the idea of taking down a few of these men was tempting. "Don't," Bellona felt a tug against her attire. Her hand was already unsheathing a sword, and she was readying to jump out of their hiding spot.
"Don't," Lucy repeated herself while releasing her hand from Bellona's clothing. "Narnians need to see you."
'No more than they need to see you four,' Bellona thought to herself while sheathing her sword. She still listened to the young queen. The four of them crouched down lower when hearing the neighing of horses.
"Perhaps this wasn't the best way to come after all." Susan proposed. This only meant that they were going to do more walking. This also only left crossing the gorge.
"She's right," Bellona muttered, not bothering to look back up at the scene. Instead, she pushed herself away from the wood stack to head back into the trees.
More walking got them back to the gorge. Where Lucy saw Aslan. Where Bellona thought she saw a glimpse of Aslan.
"So, where exactly do you think you saw Aslan?" Peter asked Lucy. Bellona glared at Peter for his choice of words while Lucy looked around at the others with disappointment.
"I wish you'd all stop trying to sound like grown-ups!" Bellona was taken aback by the statement. She didn't think she was treating Lucy like a child. "I didn't think I saw him, I did see him."
"I am a grown-up," Trumpkin mentioned.
"It was right over-" Lucy had continued before the ground caved underneath her. Susan screamed Lucy's name as Lucy screamed while falling. They all rushed to where the youngest had fallen.
"Thank Aslan," Bellona sighed upon seeing Lucy sitting on solid ground. The drop had to have been no more than five feet.
"Here," Lucy said meekly to the worried others. They had a path down now.
Bellona walked ahead with Lucy and Trumpkin. She would glance behind her to ensure that the older Pevensies were still following them. Every so often, Bellona would look to the sky. She hoped that she would catch a glimpse of something flying over them.
At nightfall, they made camp. Despite his protests, Bellona made her sleeping place away from Peter. She may or may not have threatened the male when he tried to reason with her.
Bellona's eyes snapped open when she heard a snap of the branch. The sun was already rising. Sitting up and grabbing her sword, Bellona slowly got to her feet.
"What do you think it is?" Bellona jumped a bit at Lucy's whisper. Bellona brought a finger to her lips, signaling for Lucy to be quiet. She slowly walked away from their camp, Lucy following close behind her.
There was a soft growl. Bellona quickly went behind a bush before looking just over the tops of it. A minotaur! She watched in awe as the minotaur walked past her bush.
"Peter, don't!" Bellona quietly yelled at him as he walked past her. She didn't care where he came from, just didn't want him going after a Narnian. Even if its predecessors, at one point, fought alongside the White Witch.
A stranger yelled as he clashed swords with Peter. Swords clanged against each other. Peter managed to hit the stranger across the face before swinging his sword down.
The stranger still managed to block it and continued to block following strikes. That was until his sword went flying from his hands. He still managed to avoid Peter's swings, kicking Peter away from his sword once it got stuck in a tree trunk.
Peter grabbed a rock. He jumped to use it as a weapon just as Lucy cried out, "No! Stop!"
Bellona looked around in awe. Centaurs, more minotaurs, dwarves, fauns. All Narnians! She wanted to cry at the sight of her people.
"Prince Caspian?" Peter questioned the stranger. Bellona looked at him. So he was the one whose people invaded Narnia.
"Yes? And who are you?" The stranger, Prince Caspian, asked.
"Peter!" Susan cried out as she, Edmund, and Trumpkin finally joined them.
Caspian looked at Peter's sword before looking back at Peter. "High King Peter."
"I believed you called,"
"Well, yes, but I thought you'd be older," Caspian explained as he looked at the Pevensies.
"We can come back in a few years if you'd like,"
"No! No, that's all right. You're just not exactly what I expected." Caspian explained himself, looking at the Pevensies again.
"Neither are you," Edmund commented.
"A common enemy unites even the oldest of foes," a badger spoke as if he was explaining why minotaurs and dwarves were standing beside centaurs and fauns.
To Bellona, it didn't matter. Narnians were still alive and she was more than ecstatic to see her people.
"We have anxiously awaited your return, my liege," Bellona stared at a Reepicheep in awe at his quick movements. "Our hearts and swords are at your service." He bowed.
Reepicheep began to list off more appropriate C-words that were better fit for him compared to the word "cute" Lucy had used to describe him. He then explained how he helped secure swords and weapons for the army. Their army.
"Good, because we're going to need every sword we can get," Peter said before looking back to Caspian.
"Well, then you will probably be wanting yours back," Caspian stated before handing the blade off to its rightful owner. Tension was between the two males as Peter sheathed his sword.
A trek began again. Bellona paused as she looked around the Narnians. Doubt began to rise in her as she saw no sign of Kirke.
"You are Bellona, right?" She looked to Caspian before nodding her head. "A dragon, your dragon, wanted me to relay a message to you. He went to find others that would help in this fight."
Bellona smiled, relief taking over her body. Kirke was still alive and he was on a mission. "Thank you for telling me, Caspian."
