Chapter Eight: The Gifts
I go over the story once more and the step that have lead me here. The reviewing may assist me with understanding something I have forgotten. The pacing of the adventure flashes again in head. I feel a pain in my mind and my side. The headaches have been increasing for a while. I bite my lip and shake my head. My crawls dig into my hand and the binding on my hands uncomfortably rub against the bandages. I take a deep breathe. I accidently thrash by tail on the ground. Yet the vampire remains dead to the world. He stirs not a moment as I hiss at the low lantern light.
I blow out the light. The room is now perfect for me. It is true I can see just fine now. In the intense silence I feel like I can think. I run my hand over the murals again. The fact remains that there are several people missing and the altar was not used all that much. We are in a hidden room from the side of the chamber. I know Albert told me the answer was in the gift the god of death gave the goddess of life. I walk back outside of the chamber and cover my eyes to the torches.
I return to the altar in the main room. There the two bowls are left by the tiny tree. The bone bowl seems to have freshly poured blood in it. I shiver at the thought of where the Dark Elves located the blood. I turn to the wooden bowl. It remains oddly empty. I would assume that it would be filled to honor both sides of the life and death. Maybe it is empty because we are still in winter?
I pause to ponder it. I look about the Chamber of Two Gardens. In the main area it is almost as quiet as the hidden room. There is some low chanting ongoing outside. I return back to the images out here. Albert had not bothered with them. I can see the two shape similar to goddess of life and the god of death playing about in fields and streams. I follow along the image until I spot the one of the Lord of All and the two children. They seem to be exchanging gifts between each other. The image of Golnar shows a little heart with a flame surrounding it. Zakai hands are extended, but there is nothing in his hands. I walk back to the hidden chamber. I review the murals' story again. There the answer is had. I come a similar image of Zakai and Golnar. This time Zakai's hands are cupped together with an indentation of where something belongs.
I have an idea as I go back to the Chamber of Two Gardens. I take my hand over Golnar's image and wiggle free the part of the heart from her hands and bring it to the hidden room. I place the heart shape into Zakai hands. The ground shakes and Albert jolts awake. The hands of Golnar open and show a hidden image. It is an oval shape like an egg. Albert stands by me with his hand on my shoulder. He smirks, "It would appear that Golnar received a gift of life from Zakai."
"So he created life?"
"It is oddly sweet to think a death god learned how to make life," Albert nods.
"You are fully awake," I say.
"For now," Albert stops, "Did you hear that just now?"
"The chanting?" I strain to listen, "I have heard them chanting the whole time so far. . . Say Albert, those Dark Elves said something about there being missing people in here. You know I also noticed that there is not a sacrifice to the life goddess."
" . . Hang on. I need to hear what they are saying."
Albert wanders outside of the hidden chamber. He focuses on the sounds from beyond the Chamber of Two Gardens. Just as Albert leaves the room there is a rumbling sound again the false wall encloses me in the hidden chamber. I see Albert panic as the wall falls down and I spit to get out of the room. I get to the wall as it crashes down and entraps me in the space. I bang on the wall. Albert shouting from the other side says, "It is okay, Kino. Let me try to reopen it."
"Alright!"
Albert repeats the pattern of the blocks on the other side. Yet nothing changes the situation. I turn about in the room and another space as opened up. It is a longer hallway leading away from the hidden room.
"Albert, there is hallway that just opened up in here. I am going to go take a look. From what I can see there is nothing dangerous that way."
"Kino!" Albert shouts, "Be careful! I am going to work out a different way to open this up again."
"Do you think I could just punch it down?"
"No, the structure is too old and may make the room fall in on you."
"Albert, I will be right back."
I walk now into the next hallway.
