Artemis vs Sherri
They all met up on the outskirts of the Jungle and Artemis' eyes widened at who was with them. "Abby!" She called out and the dark haired girl looked up with a smile, to catch her Queen in a hug. "What're you doing here?"
Abby shrugged looking over at Carlos, "when I heard about Harry, I had to come and help."
Artemis smiled at that, "thank you." She turned to look at everyone gathered to help take down Sherri and save Harry. She couldn't help but notice all the people from all the lands willing to step up to help him and think him wrong when he said no one cared about him. She honestly believed that if this was happening two years ago, no one would have come here, but he'd changed so much over the past two years it was crazy. "What did you guys find?"
"Georgie and I got some back up," Matt spoke and Artemis' eyes darted over to the pair - her eyebrows shooting up at the nickname and the look the two shared. She didn't say anything, though.
"We talked to Cheney," Evie spoke up and Artemis' attention was all for the daughter of the Evil Queen at the moment. She sighed with a shake of her head, "He said, that the way his mind control works, at least, was he re-wrote your entire subconscious to be him. Any free-will, any sanity, anything that kept you holding on to your true self, he replaced with devotion to him. He said the only thing that'll help is to not show her your 'hidden happy place' as he put it."
Artemis shook her head slightly, "what does that even mean?" Evie could only shrug.
"There's another thing," Carlos told her and Artemis took one look at the annoyed look on the young boys face and she knew it couldn't be good.
"What?" She asked and the son of Cruella De Vil gestured at the two girls and Artemis turned to look at Abby and Evie who shared a hesitant look. "What?"
"In exchange for this information, Cheney wanted something..." Abby began hesitantly and Artemis felt her heart pick up at just the thought of that Cat wanting something. "He wanted you to turn in his prison sentence for a banishment sentence. He said he wanted nothing to do with Wonderland anymore or you."
Artemis' hand shot up to rub at her mouth in thought, "great..." she whispered. "So, I've got some dumb riddle and a maniac who wants to be let loose... God, I can't wait to let Ali deal with all this crap," she whispered the last one to herself, dropping her head into her hands and running her fingers through her blonde curls roughly.
"I think I can help," a voice spoke up and the Queen of Wonderland turned to see Mal jogging up with a young girl who had wild brown hair up in two pig tails and thick glasses.
"Evie!" The young girl ran over to the daughter of the Evil Queen, but Artemis didn't pay that exchange any mind, instead she turned to Mal when the purple haired girl walked over to her.
"So, Dizzy helped me make these," she pulled her bag around from her back and pulled a pair of glasses out of them. Artemis took them into her hands carefully, they looked like ordinary glasses other than the green hue over the glass. "I spelled them... I'm not one hundred percent about how much they'll work, but it's the best I could do to help against Sherri's mind control."
"No, this is perfect. Thank you," she told her sincerely. "Everyone! Get a pair of Mal's glasses and whatever you do don't take them off." She explained intently, as she and Mal handed out a pair of the glasses to everyone. It was the best they had with the time they were given.
They set out to Sherri's Tree House moments later, Artemis and Uma heading the way since they knew the way and who to look out for. About ten minutes in to the hike in, Artemis and Abby offered to go ahead and scout the area before continuing on while Uma went over their game plan with the others.
"So, you really plan to uh, give up the whole kingdom to your sister?" Abby asked and Artemis froze in her spot, slowly turning to look at the dark haired girl. Artemis opened her mouth to ask how she knew that, but Abby cut her off. "I'm all knowing, remember? That and you kind of mumbled something along those lines earlier."
Artemis shook her head with a small smirk, looking around the jungle, "Yeah, I am... I mean, I've never wanted to be Queen and it's not like I'm going to get engaged any time soon to keep it anyway."
"And Harry's worth all that?" Abby asked, not like she doubted it but like she was making sure Artemis didn't doubt it. "You'd be living a normal life, Arty. You wouldn't be Queen anymore which means no dealing with the treaties between Auradon and the Isle. No throne, no crown, no cotillions on your birthday every year..."
"Yes," Artemis cut her off, her voice sounding strong. "He is worth it. I don't need all that to have a good life."
"I believe you," Abby held her hands up in surrender, stepping up to Artemis. "I just want to make sure you thought of everything. I mean, you'd have to get an actual job, start taking control of your life, break-ups..." she trailed of promptingly and Artemis' eyes snapped to hers.
"What're you talking about?"
Abby shrugged, "what if you and Harry aren't really Soulmates?"
Artemis narrowed her eyes slightly, her lips pressed into a disbelieving smile, "I'm not good with labels and everything, Abby, but I think we're pretty good in that part."
"That's funny cause I would've believed that a week ago," Abby's eyebrows shot up tauntingly. "Aren't you two technically broken up, right now?"
Artemis' face fell, "watch it, Abby, technically I'm still Queen.
Abby's hand shot up in surrender, taking a slight step back as a show of truce. "Hey, I'm just being realistic. What if something goes wrong, and you don't have your big throne to fall back on this time?"
"Not gonna happen."
"Right," Abby drew out like she didn't believe her. "Cause couples stay together forever... they never fight, they never hurt each other, they never drift apart..." she trailed pulling her bubble wand out and Artemis frowned at the action. "Let me show you..." with that she blew and a dozen bubbles danced across Artemis' vision and then everything went black.
Her vision was blurry, like she was looking through a pair of foggy glasses. But, she could clearly make out Harry sitting at a counter with a glass of some type of liquor in his hands. She heard the door click open and shut, followed by footsteps. Then she saw herself come into the picture, dressed in simple clothes and pulling her hair out of a ponytail as she made her way over to the counter.
"You're still up?" She commented and Harry's eyes bounced back to her as he set the glass down.
Harry simply nodded, "long night."
"Yeah," she chuckled, setting down the mail and the keys on the counter. "Alison needed help going over some things and the time just got away from us. I keep telling myself that she's new to this, you know she didn't have six years of training like I did... eventually she won't need my help anymore."
"Come sit," Harry beckoned her over with a jerk of his chin. "Have a drink with me, love."
"I'm actually kind of tired," she mumbled either not noticing or too tired to care about the way Harry's face fell at that. She leaned over to kiss his cheek and moved around him to head up the stairs.
Artemis stumbled away from Abby, shaking her head with a slight scoff, "oh, so I have to babysit Alison for a little bit to help her settle in somebody help me I've made a terrible mistake," she drew out sarcastically and Abby tossed her an unimpressed look.
"Oh, that's just two years in... wait til you hit five," Abby blew again and Artemis tried to duck away from the bubbles that flew at her but it was no use.
This time it was her sitting at the counter, filling out some type of paper work and she heard the door close heavily. Harry came half stumbling in and over to her with a grin on his face, "well, hello love," he held her hips from behind and kissed her neck lightly.
She cringed away, "Harry, you're drunk."
He dropped his head onto her shoulder for a moment before straightening up and pushing away, "I sense judgement. Which is odd because yer the one who encouraged me to go out with Uma and Gil tonight."
"I wanted you to hang out with them," Artemis shot back, dropping the paper onto the counter top. "Not come in wasted half past midnight when you have work in the morning."
Harry turned to look at her, running a hand over his mouth and chin, "yeah, well, they at least take the time to spend time with me, unlike you."
Artemis' eyebrows shot up at that, her mouth falling open slightly, "I just got Alison up on her feet, Harry, what do you want from me?"
"I don't know," his voice rose slightly, the irritation clearly there. "What do you want to do? Because it seems to me like Alison's been up on her feet for a while now and yer still there holding her hand."
The blonde frowned incredulously at the implication, "I just want to make sure that my Kingdom doesn't fall apart."
"Yer Kingdom?" He echoed and Artemis sealed her mouth shut at her slip. "Sweetheart, it hasn't been yers in a long time, and it's time you get that through yer head."
"Because of you," she scoffed and her eyes darted up to see the hurt flash through Harry's but she was too worked up to take it back. "You're right, it's not mine anymore, because of you."
Harry scoffed, reaching up a hand to run over his mouth and chin, "just say it," he muttered.
She licked her lips, pushing up out of her seat, "this was a mistake," her voice was low but her words were clear.
"Yer right," he quickly agreed, taking the same tone she had, his jaw set in anger. "This was a mistake." Artemis felt her heart shatter at the words coming out of his mouth.
The blonde stumbled away from Abby, her wide eyes darting up to meet the daughter of Absoleums. But, before she could say a word a voice called out to her, "is it all clear?"
"Yeah," Artemis called back hesitantly, her voice shaking slightly. "It's clear."
They reached the Tree House at the break of Dawn, and Silas and Sherri were waiting for them. The daughter of Sher Khan was standing at the foot of the tree with Harry on his knees - tied up - just beside her. Silas laughed loudly, hoping down off the branch and landing heavily in the grass beneath him. "Welcome!" His eyes were nearly yellow as the rising sun reflected dramatically off them.
Sherri snapped once, her head cocked to the side and her feline-like green eyes stared at their new arrivals. Artemis jumped back as a large constrictor brushed passed her ankle and her eyes widened to see dozens of snakes slithering across the ground of the Jungle. Her eyes slowly traveled up to Sherri's only for the red headed girl to laugh maniacally.
I can almost feel the tick like clockwork
Hearing all the voices in my head each time I go
There's a game they play that I'm not part of
Tearing at the weaknesses and all the faults they know
The pirate crew behind Artemis and the others broke lose, slipping into a heated battle with all of the 'Jungle Rat's' that sided with Sherri. The others soon dove in too, helping fend off those who tried to make at Artemis or tried to stop the blonde from getting to Harry.
It's impossible to navigate around
It's inevitable that you'll fall in
It's improbable I'll ever come back down
I fell in and now I think I might drown
"Get her!" Sherri ordered as Artemis started towards her and one of the guys standing beside the red headed girl lunged at Artemis. She ducked underneath the fist thrown her way, and swiped her leg out to knock him off his feet before jumping over him.
I'm falling deep into a pit of vipers
Over me, over me and I can't break free
Secrets run deep when you're in a pit of vipers
Slithering, whispering, feel the venom poisoning me
Sherri rolled her eyes at her men's futile attempts to take down the blonde Queen of Wonderland and rose to her feet, herself. Her eyes swirled a yellow and green as she grinned darkly at Artemis. "Come now, barbie, no need to fight it." She purred and Artemis felt this calmness spreading in the back of her mind but she did her best to fight it off.
She squared off her jaw and threw a straight punch right into Sherri's nose - causing the daughter of Sher Khan to jerk back with a gasp as her hand flew up to cover her nose. "Oh, my God, did you just punch me?" Artemis only shrugged, with a cocky grin
Harry chuckled, "that's my lassie."
Now I must admit that I have played a part
In the way that things have gotten out of hand
But it's escalated almost to an art
I want to fix him but I don't think I can
Uma whirled back and forth, fighting off two guys with her sword skillfully. She knocked the spear out of the one's hands before turning on her toes and knocking her elbow into the others face - taking him down. She ducked under the initial ones swing and swiped her leg under his taking him off his feet and knocking him out against a rock. She straightened with a smirk and tossed her braid over her shoulder.
"Well, well, well," a voice drew out and she turned to see Silas scoop up the fallen spear as he approached her. Her glared darkened. "Looks like it's just you and I, sweetheart."
I'm falling deep into a pit of vipers
Over me, over me and I can't break free
Secrets run deep when you're in a pit of vipers
Slithering, whispering, feel the venom poisoning me
Sherri's head twitched to the side as she raised her hands and beckoned Artemis forward tauntingly with both of them. Artemis charged forward swing at her but Sherri quickly ducked under, sending a quick punch to her side and sending the blonde stumbling back. She recuperated quickly though and jumped as she did a round house kick only for Sherri to duck just in time to miss getting knocked across the head.
Artemis followed that quickly with a side kick to her stomach, sending the red head stumbling back and then the blonde dropped to swipe her feet across hers. Sherri quickly lost her balance and fell back into a pair who was fighting, knocking the three of them off their feet.
Slither, slither, slither
Put your fangs into my back
Slither, slither, slither
Think I don't know where you're at
Silas twirled the spear in his hands, wasting no time in swinging it out at the daughter of Ursula. She ducked under the attack swinging her sword at his feet only for him to jump over it and respond with a round kick towards her face. She jumped back and stepped to the side when he jabbed the spear forward.
I use you, I'm no good, need to be in control.
I said I use you, I'm no good, need to be in control.
She grabbed the end of the spear and swung her sword down to break it in half - her wicked grin met Silas' shocked gaze as she tossed the piece of wood aside. Silas tossed the other half away as she swung heavily at him and caught the flat sides of the blade between his hands. He jerked it from her grip and tossed it aside before holding her gaze once more. She squared off her jaw, raising her fists.
I'm falling deep into a pit of vipers
Over me, over me and I can't break free
Secrets run deep when you're in a pit of vipers
Slithering, whispering, feel the venom poisoning me
Sherri yanked the Spear out of her fallen man's hand and climbed to her feet. She swung heavily at Artemis who quickly dodged every attack sent her way. She slipped and dropped to the ground, causing Sherri to grin wickedly. She lunged the spear down only for Artemis to roll out of the way so it embedded itself in the ground instead. She gripped it for leverage and swung her legs out to knock Sherri off her feet.
She yanked the Spear out of the ground and held it against the red heads throat. Sherri immediately froze in her spot, anger swirling her in her bright eyes.
I'm falling deep into a pit of vipers
Over me, over me and I can't break free
Secrets run deep when you're in a pit of vipers
Slithering, whispering, feel the venom poisoning me
Silas swung out with a side kick that Uma caught and shoved him away, but he quickly came back with a straight punch. Uma side stepped it, and caught his wrist and forearm in her hands, using his own moment against him and flipping him over her leg and onto his back.
"Uma!" Artemis called out and the Sea Queen looked up to see Artemis hold Sherri down and then her eyes darted over to her first mate.
Slither, slither, slither
Put your fangs into my back
Slither, slither, slither
Think I don't know where you're at
Uma scooped up her sword ran over to Harry and the son of Captain Hook immediately turned when he saw his Captain coming so she could slice through the ropes holding him back. He shrugged off the course binds and climbed to his feet immediately rushing over to Artemis.
I use you, I'm no good, need to be in control
I said I use you, I'm no good, need to be in control
"Love, come on," he grabbed her arm and Artemis let him tug her back. Her eyes met Sherri's one last time before she took off with the other - the Pirate Crew staying back to fend them off until the others were far enough away with Harry.
They ran to the docks where the Wonder was tied up. Everyone - Harry, Artemis, Matt, Abby, Uma, Georgie, Gil, Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, Dizzy, and Jaamil - climbed a board. Jay and Carlos working to severe the ties keeping them tied down at the docks while Harry and Artemis ran to the wheel and Gil and Matt let down the sails.
They immediately set sails, drifting through the barrier and out towards Auradon. They figured they'd drop them all off first before heading back to Wonderland, plus it gave Artemis some time to think.
She was sitting up on one of the crates just in front of the helm, her curls dancing in the wind as she stared out at the sea. She felt herself beginning to calm down and relax now that the Isle was behind her, but ahead of her lied so much she had to deal with. Her decision to give up the crown, her fight with Harry, everything...
"What're ya thinking about, love?" His voice floated over to her and she peeked over her shoulder to look at him. He was standing at the wheel, a hand on either peg as he gently guided the ship and the wind whipped through his raven locks.
"This talk I had with Abby earlier," Artemis admitted with a heavy sigh. "About... giving up my crown to be with you." Harry's eyes darted up to hers as she hoped off the crate to wander over to him. "Her argument was pretty convincing..."
Harry pressed his lips into a thin line, nodding, "I could do it, ya know... marry you, take the throne with you... I'd do it for you." He cocked his head to the side to look as her and she smiled, leaning into his arm.
"No," she shook her head and his eyebrows furrowed. "I love that you'd be willing to do that for me, Harry. And I love the idea of being with you forever... but, I don't want to force you to do anything that you don't want to do, something I'm not even sure I want to do."
"What're ya saying?"
"I'm saying I made up my mind..." she gave a firm nod, taking his one hand off the wheel to hold it in hers tightly and she smiled. "I'm doing it. I'm giving Alison my Crown..." Harry's eyes snapped up to hers and she took a step closer. "I don't want to rule Wonderland, I never have. I want to be with you Harry... I want to go on Adventures on the Wonder, I want to visit the Isle with you, I want it all..."
Harry gave a slight shake of his head, fighting off a small grin at the idea, "you can't do it just for me."
"That's what you and Abby keep saying, Harry. But, look at me," her free hand slid up to cup his jaw, turning his face to look down at her and she smiled. "You're wrong. I can... I can do it for us. Because even if it doesn't work out, even if it all goes to crap, even if I'm miserable and alone. The smallest chance at the perfect life with you is a million times better than some life without you coped up in a castle with a dumb crown on my head. I love you."
Harry finally let a little of the smile peek through, the corner of his mouth quirking up. "I thought in the Fairy Tales it was the guy who was supposed to make some big sappy gesture like that."
"We're not your generic Fairy Tale," she shrugged slightly, picking up his hat off the crate and fixing it on his head over his crazed hair.
He chuckled deeply, swooping down to capture her lips in a deep kiss. She grinned into the touch, looping her arms around the back of his neck. And in that moment she knew the right choice... that this, forever, was the right choice.
