24. Distractions
"Stiles," I shout as I scan everywhere in his room, searching for my blue hoodie Allison had given me awhile back. "Where's my hoodie?"
Stiles shouts back to me, still in the bathroom as he brushed his teeth. Whatever he tried to say, I could barely make it out. "I don't know-"
I grab a few shirts on the floor and toss them away, frantic now to find it. I knew it was in here somewhere; it had to be. The only reason I was so frantic was because Stiles and I had woken up late for school; mostly because we barely got any sleep from the night before.
A groan leaves my throat as I turn around to run out of his bedroom door and search the laundry in the dryer, but before I could exit, Stiles' father was standing there looking at me. He had a coffee in his hand, and his dark bushy eyebrows told me that he wanted to talk to me about something. I didn't really have the desire to know what that something was.
"Corey, I just wanted to talk to you about-"
"I'm sure he knows to use protection, dad!" Stiles shouts from the bathroom, causing Stilinski to sigh and close his eyes. My face started to turn slightly red as he steps inside the doorway and shuts the door, making sure that Stiles could no longer hear him. It was just me and him.
"Anyways, I know you've been staying with us here for awhile now, and you're a great kid, Corey, you really are, but there's got to come a time where you decide what to do," he says, leaving me confused for a moment before he goes on. "Either you tell us the truth or we'll have to send you someplace you won't like. Technically, it's illegal for me to even have you under my roof right now."
I wasn't sure what to say; I couldn't tell him the truth, so I tried to play something off. "Thank you for letting me stay here, Sheriff. You and Stiles both have been really kind to me, which is something I've been pretty numb to. I just...I can't tell you the truth, not yet at least. I will, I promise. I understand though if you have to get me out of here for the sake of your job-"
"I'm not going to kick you out onto the streets, Corey," he says, sounding so much like a fatherly figure. "I won't do that; I'd rather lose my job. I'm just telling you that sooner rather than later would be better, but you'll always be welcome here, kid."
Something about what he said brought a smile to my face. "Thank you, really-"
"Don't mention it," he says before his eyes go someplace behind me. "Is that your hoodie right there?"
I turn around then to see where his finger was pointing, which was literally on top of Stiles' curtain rod over his window. How in the world...
"I'm not even going to ask how that got up there," he says before opening the door and walking down the hall, shouting back to Stiles and I both. "Hurry up or you're going to be late!"
"Wait! Dad-" Stiles says as he runs out of the bathroom and to his father, allowing me to hear faint murmurs between the two of them. I could tell that it was about the murder last night at the school; a girl named Tara. She had been on the police force, and Stiles was pretty upset about it. I wasn't sure what he was saying to his father, but if I had to guess, it was about her case.
I stop listening in when I feel my phone buzz in my pant pocket, causing me to pull it out, seeing that Allison was calling me. "Hello?"
"Can you come over?" she says, sounding quiet. I wondered if her father was around.
I lick my lips. "Yeah, of course. What's wrong?"
"I just need to see you," she almost begs. I would have wondered why she sounded like that, but then I remembered her telling me about how bad her nights were with the hallucinating and nightmares, so I didn't say anything more. I felt a sharp pain in my gut when I realized that I had basically left her alone to deal with that while I was thinking about Boyd and wasting my time on Jade.
I slip on my black sneaker, trying to hurry. "I'll be over there in a few minutes."
"Be careful though," she says, breathing a little louder into the phone speaker. "My dad is home; not that he doesn't like you or anything, but-"
"I get it," I smile faintly at the slight panic in her tone. "I'll get Stiles to drop me off; it's going to be okay."
"Love you," she says, waiting a moment for me to say it back, which I did, before she hung up. It was only a few weeks ago when we started doing that to end our phone calls, and it didn't bother me one bit.
I told Stiles what Allison told me, and after a little fussing and complaining from him, he finally agreed to take me to Allison's. It wasn't that he didn't want to; but rather because he was already late for school, and he hated being late to things like this. It messed up his "system" apparently.
When I had gotten to Allison's apartment, I had forgotten completely that her father was home. It wasn't a big worry of mine, but I felt stupid after I had knocked on the door once before allowing myself in, faced with Mr. Argent as he stared down at me.
"Corey, what are you doing here?" he asks, his face hard. "I thought you were supposed to be at school."
I try to come up with something fast. "I am, but I had forgotten my bag over here the other night when Allison and I were studying."
His eyes narrow. "Studying? Just studying?"
I gulp. "Yeah, studying."
"She's in her room," he says, stepping to the side finally so I could walk past him. I looked over my shoulder to see if he was watching me as I walked down the hall, but instead I saw him grab his keys on the table by the door and exit the apartment. Thank God, too; I could finally breathe again.
When I reached Allison's room, she was laying in bed with her covers thrown over her, huddled close together as if she was cold. Her eyes are lost, distant, before they find mine, causing them to widen with joy. "Is he gone?"
"Yeah-" I barely get to finish before she's flinging the covers off of her, fully dressed and ready to go anywhere. She had on a shorter blue dress with fishnet leggings, and I would be lying if I said I didn't admire how good her legs looked in those leggings and those boots.
She smiles at me before walking over, standing on her toes to place a kiss on my lips. It was one of those quick, yet sweet kisses that couples did right before parting ways, but any kiss from Allison was exhilarating. When she pulls away, her eyes showed business, but I wasn't sure what that business was.
"I never did show you that map," Allison says, starting to walk around me already. "Come on; maybe you can find something I didn't."
I sigh, not ready yet to deal with this stuff this early. "Can't we just stay in bed and watch Parks and Rec or something-"
"People are dying Corey, and you want to watch people fall into a pit," she remarks, causing a smile to form on my face.
"So you have seen it," I grin.
She rolls her eyes slightly. "I watched it all last year; but come on."
"Alright," I murmur before following in her footsteps, watching her lead me into her father's office. I've been in here a couple of times, but not enough to really notice small details. The whole area was almost spotless, except for the dust that was starting to collect on the book shelves. There were two or three photos of Allison and her mother there in frames as well, which made my heart hurt. It amazed me how well Allison has moved on from her mother; it was a hard death for her.
"Is that it?" I say, pointing at the desk in the middle of the room. She nods as she leads me behind it, stopping as I do as well. I stare at it for a moment, trying to take it all in, before she sounds doubtful.
"Do you think he's the Darach," she fades out, her right hand grabbing her wrist in a nervous manor.
I turn and face her. "He can't be; I get that this is weird for him to know all about, but I really don't think it's him. It can't be. If he was, I'm sure he would have sacrificed me by now."
Allison laughs for a moment. "I just want to know how he knows so much," she says before taking a step closer to the map. "Do you see anything else that I might have missed?"
She pulls out the blacklight before shinning it over every little area on the map, only showing the markings I had already seen. Her hand lowers then as she sighs, biting the bottom of her lip as she thought. I noticed that she did that a lot when she was frustrated and wanted to know something.
After about a minute of staring at the space in front of us, not finding anything, I got quite bored. I could hardly focus with her standing next to me. For some reason, my hand reaches up and brushes her hair off of her neck, causing her to glance over at me in confusion.
"We're supposed to be looking for clues," she grins, her cheeks starting to turn red. "You're distracting me."
"Well, you're distracting me too," I smile before placing a few kisses on her neck, hearing her moan softly for a moment. I could tell that she wanted me to continue, but she also wanted to help save lives. I guess her hunter instincts were too strong.
"Damn you, Corey," she breathes, her eyes meeting mine as I smiled. "You do realize I could get you off of me easily if I wanted to."
"But you won't," I smile as my lips press against her neck again, trailing up to her ear. "You like me too much."
The next thing I know, I feel her jaw tighten into a sly smile, turning as she grabbed my wrist. My eyes widen as she twists my arm around to where it's behind my back, grabbing my other hand as well as she shoves my face into the table where the map was lying. She did it so fast, I didn't have time to react.
I laugh nervously as my cheek presses into the table, looking up at her to see her smiling with pride. She leans down closer to my face slowly as she speaks playfully. "I don't like you; I love you."
I wanted to kiss her then after seeing her eyes light up like that and hearing those words, but like I said a minute ago, I was pinned to the table, so I couldn't. Her mint breath lingers around my nostrils before she leans away from my face, out of my vision, still holding me in place.
"I really need to learn how to fight," I sigh as my eyes drop to the table, and that was when I saw it. There was some type of symbol under the map; something that had to mean something.
Allison lets my wrists go then. "I can teach you if you want; you probably need to learn how to defend yourself around here anyways."
I stand up, half ignoring her comment. "The table—there's a symbol on it."
"What are you talking about?" she furrows her eyebrows before I grab the map and throw it off the table, staring down at something that I had no idea what meant. Allison steps forwards then, her hand brushing against my own.
"It's a five-fold knot," she breathes before grabbing the black light, turning it on and shining it over the symbol to reveal words. "Warriors, virgins, healers, philosophers, and guardians."
We turn and look at one another then, hearts pounding as we both had the same thought.
"Okay, maybe your dad is the killer after all."

ALLISON AND COREY ALMOST SEXY TIME IS WHAT I LIVE FOR (other than actual sexy time of course)
What do you think Corey should do about telling Stilinski the truth? Yay, or nay?
Well, let's just say I got super sad when I looked at what episode I was on for this book. After this episode, there's only 3 episodes left, and I'm bummed. I am excited for 3b though, only because shit will go down in that season. I'm predicting maaaaybe 7-9 more chapters for this book though? I'm not 100% sure, but that's a rough guess.
As always, vote and comment!
