15. Deceit

Allison runs her free finger tips across my hand while the other clasped onto it, sending chills up my spine. We were now sitting on the edge of her bed in her hotel room, neither of us saying a single word yet. However, we didn't need to say anything, because with every touch from Allison, it felt like she was saying a thousand words.

Finally, she did speak. "It wasn't his fault, Corey."

"I get that," I say, remembering the look on Scott's face when I pulled him away from Allison earlier. "But what would he have done if I wouldn't have gotten here?"

Allison's hand tightens it's grip. "Nothing. He wouldn't have laid a hand on me-"

"You don't know that," I state, only thinking about the one thing I wanted to erase from my mind, which happened to be Allison not being able to defend herself. First there was Matt to stalk her, but now Scott was randomly going for her when she's naked in the shower? It sickened my stomach. "You don't know what he would have done."

Allison sighs, finally accepting that I was right. She lowers her head onto my shoulder, continuing to intertwine her fingers into my own. "Corey, I only love you. You know that, right?"

I swore my heart skipped a beat from the L word. It wasn't like this was the first time she said it, same with me, but every time I heart it come from her lips, I stopped thinking straight. "Of course I know that."

"Good," she smiles as she nuzzles her face into my neck, her soft lips reaching up and pecking the side of it gently. She only does this for a moment however before she hisses, seeming to be in pain.

I turn my head. "What's wrong?"

Her head lifts from my shoulder as her free hand goes to the back of her neck, rubbing it softly. "I forgot that when the alpha pack took Stiles and I that Jade had pressed her claws a little too hard on the back of my neck-"

"Wait, she hurt you?" I say, my heartbeat rising. Why didn't Allison tell me sooner?

Allison shakes her head. "Yes, but I'm fine. I promise. It just aches every now and again."

"Let me see it," I say as she lets go of my hand, turning on the bed and facing the wall. I swiftly grab her hair, which smelled like strawberries, and brushed it over the side of her shoulder. She was right; Jade did get her with her claws.

It was a little to the left from her spine; four little red dots that appeared to have been deep before they healed. My heart aches for Allison as I lean my face closer, seeing that one of the dots had a little bump under it from the swelling. I wanted to be mad at Jade for doing this, but right now wasn't the time. It wasn't like I could do anything about it right now.

"Is is bad?" she says, her eyes trying to look around back at me.

I didn't want to lie. "It's not that bad; it's healing for sure."

"It only hurts when I move my neck a certain way," she says as I bring her hair back around, allowing her to turn back and face me once again. "Jade didn't mean to, I know she didn't. It was when she was taking us inside of the mall when we first got there."

"Either way, she hurt you," I say, vowing to myself that she wasn't going to go unpunished.

Allison's eyes trail down to the floor as she's silent, searching for the words to say or just basking in the sweet silence, I didn't know. After a couple of seconds, she looks back up at me, her eyes wandering. "How...How close were you and Jade? I never have really heard much about her."

I was surprised by her question, but not by her curiosity. "We first met in second grade. She moved from Washington and didn't have any friends, which is how she found me. I can't remember how it happened or when exactly, but it was like we became best friends over night. We were the outcasts of the school, which I guess was the reason we fit together like puzzle pieces so well. We made each other laugh, we stayed up too late talking on the phone, and we stuck together. Granted, I got a little lost when I started dating Kaitlin, but eventually we found each other again."

Allison nods her head, something in her eyes trying to tell me something. "Did you, um, ever have feelings for her?"

My eyes widen. "Me? God, no. We were just friends and that was that. She liked me, I knew that only because one night she called me and asked me to pick me up from a party. She was wasted, so she couldn't drive, but when I went to get her and drove her home, she poured it all out. At first I just thought it was her being drunk, but everything she said was true; like she had it all bottled up inside and finally just let it out for the first time."

Allison licks her lips, staying silent for a moment. "Do you think she still likes you?"

I didn't expect her to ask that question, out of the many others she could have asked. Truth was, I didn't really know. Everything she said to me sounded like she did, but her words didn't catch up with her actions. If she really did care for me, she'd know that you don't mess with the ones I love, and she hurt them too.

I grab Allison's hand again, squeezing it tight. "That doesn't matter, Allison. Just like you said...I only love you."

A faint smile finds it's way onto her face, but before she can say any more, the door to the room is flying open, revealing a very panicked Lydia. "We need to get out of here."

Allison furrows her eyebrows. "Why? What's wrong?"

Lydia shakes her head as she walks inside, pacing back and forth. "You know that number down in the lobby? It's gone up."

"What do you mean it's gone up?" I say, remembering the number being 198 before. "What does it say now?"

Lydia stops and looks at the two of us. "203."

My eyes are wide, but Allison just shrugs it off. "Maybe they had a miscount earlier?"

Lydia seems confident. "Or what if that means who's going to die...tonight?"

Goosebumps rise on my skin. "Thanks Lydia; just what I needed to hear before I try and go to sleep."

"You shouldn't even be worrying," Allison assures. "Besides, the deaths were suicides, not murders. I'm pretty sure none of us here want to commit suicide...right?"

My head starts to spin. "I need to go to sleep before I won't be able to anymore."

Allison nods her head as she kisses me goodnight, Lydia continuing to pace as she runs her fingers through her hair. Allison looks up at me as I stand, her eyes showing strength. "Everything is going to be fine, okay Corey? Just get some sleep."

I smile faintly at her. "Goodnight, Allison."

Her fingers slip from my hand as I walk towards the door, walking past Lydia as I tell her goodnight as well. She doesn't say anything back, but I could see why. She was stressed out and wanted to know what in the hell was going on. I didn't blame her; I did too. However, I knew that I needed sleep and if I were to stay up to witness anymore of this haunted stuff, I'd never be able to go to bed.

A sigh escapes my lips as I close the door behind me, looking straight out over the balcony and down at the parking lot. I started to take a step forward before my feet stumble from under me for a moment, causing me to fall forwards and grab the railing on the edge. My eyes stare at my hands as I tried to get a grip on myself, but something was wrong. It wasn't my chest this time; that didn't even hurt me anymore. I felt like I was drunk all over again, but I haven't had a sip.

I'm standing there for a little while before I hear the door open back up behind me. My eyes search over my shoulder to see Allison step out, walking around to the other side of me as her eyes stared into my own with concern. "Corey, are you okay?"

I gulp, my spit thickening. "Just dizzy; that's all. Must be from all of my anxiety."

Allison's hand lingers around mine, but she doesn't take it. "Are you sure? You really don't look that good."

"I'm fine," I snap, not realizing how rude it came out as. Allison's face conforms into sadness before she's pushing herself away from the railing, more than definitely mad at me. I was about to call out to her, but when I turned to follow her back into her room, I saw that she was walking down the balcony and to the stairs.

I furrow my eyebrows. "Where are you going?"

"To get something from the bus," she says as she starts to tromp down the stairs. "I forgot my phone."

A part of me didn't like that she was going by herself, so I followed after her. My head instantly felt better as I pushed myself off the railing and sped walked to catch up with her. When I finally do catch up with her, we were already halfway across the parking lot.

I still felt bad for how I snapped at her earlier. "I'm sorry for snapping at you...I don't know what was wrong with me."

Allison still looks a little angry with me. "It's okay. I understand...this place can do that to you."

I wasn't sure what she meant by her sentence, but I didn't get to ask before we reach the bus. I stayed outside as she walked on, turning left and walking down the aisle to the back of the bus. My eyes watch her through the windows for a moment before I turn around, scoping out the area. For some reason, something felt off to me. Like something was coming.

It wasn't until I heard a door slam when I turned back around, seeing that the bus door was sealed tight. For a moment I was confused as to how the doors were shut, why Allison would do that, but then I saw that she was still at the back of the bus, bent over a seat as she searched for her phone. I didn't start to panic until I saw another shadowy figure coming up from behind her.

My voice trembles as I run to the door, trying my hardest to pry it open. "Allison! Look out!"

My fingers slip in the cracks of the door, but the more I pulled on them, the more they stayed shut. Whoever was in there must have locked them. I couldn't get inside.

I form a fist as I beat on the door, half convinced that I could break the glass and get inside. Allison has yet to notice the figure as it makes it's way closer to her, ignoring me beating on the glass. Either Allison couldn't hear me or she was ignoring me, but she wasn't moving. The figure suddenly lurches forwards when Allison's scream echoes in my ears, giving me some type of strength that I didn't realize I had.

Apparently I really could break the glass, because that's exactly what I did. I quickly punch away all of the fragments as I pushed my way inside, not caring about any of the blood that was now pouring from my hands. My feet work fast as I run up the steps, more than desperate to help Allison.

When I turned the corner however to run down the aisle, I stopped. The figure had Allison now faced towards me, hand on her mouth. I still couldn't see who it was, but I didn't care. They hurt Allison and now for that they're going to pay.

My hands grip the edge of the seats as Allison shakes her head at me, tears leaking down her face. She tried to mumble something to me, more than likely to tell me to run away, but I couldn't do that. Before I could act again, the figure behind Allison looks around her ever so slightly, allowing me to see deep crimson burning in their eyes. That was when I knew who it was.

Jade.

"I'm glad you're here for this," Jade snarls through her teeth, making my heart race faster in my chest. "Makes her death more memorable."

My hand reaches out towards them as a deep, furious scream leaves my throat, but I was too late. I felt every emotion of mine crash into me as I watch Jade's wrists work in a circular pattern, hearing the sound that's similar to chicken bones being snapped. Allison's eyes go from fear to blankness in an instant as her head hangs to the side, her neck practically being snapped in two.

"No!" I scream, but it was in between anger and the upcoming tears that pushed their way to the surface. Jade doesn't care as she smirks at me, dropping Allison's body to the ground as if she was worthless. Everything felt as if it was in slow motion as I run to her, not caring about Jade who was making her escape out of the back of the bus.

I fall to my knees as I pull her body into my arms, brushing the hair out of her face to see her lifeless eyes staring back up at me. That was when the tears finally came. My bottom lip curls under as my hands rested against her face, feeling as if everything good in life was taken from me. Like Jade had just ended whatever type of happiness I had found here...all of it being Allison.

"You're not dead Allison," I say as I rock back and forth, trying to hold onto my sanity. She was deathly still in my arms as tears streamed down my face, falling onto Allison below. "God, no Allison. Come back! This isn't happening...I love you, Allison. Please, come back to me."

I waited for something to happen, but it didn't. She was gone. Jade had killed her. She took every strand of happiness I had found here, only for her own selfishness.

"Corey?"

My heart drops into my stomach as I look up over my shoulder, knowing that voice from anywhere. When I looked back, I saw Allison standing there, kneeling beside me in desperate confusion. When I turned back to the figure that was in my arms, there was nothing there. The blood on my hands was gone, the body...everything.

"Y-You," I say as I lift my shaking hands. "Jade killed you."

Allison furrows her eyebrows. "What are you talking about? I'm fine, Corey. I'm safe."

I lift my hands to my head as I close my eyes, still feeling the tears on my face. "What is happening to me."

Allison pulls me into a hug as I wrap my arms around her, feeling more than safe in her arms. Whatever I had just seen crushed me into pieces, and that was all I could think about. None of it was real, but it felt so real. But Allison was safe in my arms, still here to live another day.

"You're not the only one who's having problems," Allison says into my ear before pulling away from me, her eyes locking into my own. I cock my head slightly at what she was talking about, but then I saw exactly what she meant.

Her eyes...they were glowing yellow.

All I have to say is that this will all in turn make sense, I promise you. My only tip to you is to look for the deeper meaning behind some of these next few chapters. I'll leave a few easter eggs for you guys to hint at what's to come, but we'll see if you guys notice (:

Oh, and if you like Corey and Lydia together, I wrote a one shot of the two of them in my One Shot book. I recommend for you to check it out!

Other than that, vote and comment loves!
