06. From Bad To Worse
When we had gotten on the bus, Scott gave me the cold shoulder. I tried talking to him, but Stiles had directed me back towards the front of the bus, where we both sat next to one another. We were far enough away from Scott that he couldn't hear us with normal hearing, but who's to say he didn't listen with his werewolf ears.
"Scott's had a crush on Allison since the first day she got here, okay?" Stiles says, his voice soft and low. "He's just taking this hard."
He didn't know that I knew all of this already. "Stiles, I get that. I get that he's angry that some person that died literally a few months ago stole his girl; someone that he couldn't even see. I totally understand why he's angry, but he doesn't need to be angry at Allison. The whole time I was dead, she wanted to tell you guys but didn't know how. Be honest with me-If she were to pull you to the side and tell you that she talks to a ghost all day, would you have believed her?"
Stiles' face goes blank for a moment. "Actually, I probably wouldn't have."
"Exactly," I state, proving my point. "You would have thought she was just as crazy as Lydia Martin."
Stiles holds his finger up. "Lydia might be crazy, but she's my type of crazy, okay?"
"Okay Stiles," I fade out, shaking my head. "My point is, she didn't mean for any of this to happen. I'm the dumb ass who died and found her in the first place. Scott shouldn't be angry with her at all. This is all on me."
Stiles sighs. "He's not mad at anyone; well, maybe a little at Allison for not telling him sooner, but other than that he's fine. He just needs time to process all of this."
"Well at least let me go try and apologize," I say as I look back at Scott, seeing him looking out the window. Isaac had sat down next to him as well, not saying a single word.
"Listen up!" Coach yells from the front of the bus, blowing the whistle around his neck once to get everyone's attention. "When you get off, don't start running yet. I'll be timing each and every one of you so don't try and get a head start. Got that Ramirez?"
Everyone on the bus snickers for a moment, turning and looking at a kid that was sitting two seats behind Stiles and I. If I had to guess, he was either a junior or senior, and by the look on his face, I guessed that he had messed up last year. Explains why everyone was now laughing at him.
The bus slows to a stop as everyone pushes to get out. I get elbowed at least three times before I finally make it off, looking around and seeing that we were standing in a forest. In front of me was a dirt trail; one that by my guess was going to be very long and tiring. Stiles groans from beside me before I see Scott walking in front of me, causing me to try and catch up with him.
"Scott-" I say, but multiple other teenagers cut me off. Scott ignores me as I groan, trying to catch up with him once again, but that was before someone stepped right in front of me. "Hey, watch it-"
My sentence cuts short when I realize who the figure was; excuse me...figures. I feel my heartbeat rise as my eyes trail up to their faces, not being able to tell the difference between the two. They both smirk down on me as I cower, not really sure what to do.
"What's his name again?" the one on the left says, my guess it being Ethan.
Aiden's eyebrows knit together. "Coral I think? What's it matter anyways."
I take a step back, seeing Stiles look over from the corner of my eye. "W-What do you want?"
"What do you think we want?" Aiden snarls, his eyes flashing red for a moment. "You're coming back with us."
"Like hell I am," I spit back, growing some confidence. It looked as if Ethan was about to rip my face off before I hear Coach's whistle blare, causing my feet to work faster than my brain. I'm zooming towards the other direction as I follow the crowd, my hopes to get away from the twins as far away as possible.
"Corey!" I hear someone call from behind, it sounding like Stiles. I wanted to turn around and scream at him to help me, but he couldn't do anything. I thought about finding Scott, but I knew he couldn't do anything either. Not with this many people around.
So I kept running. I managed to get far past the other kids running, maybe since they were jogging and I was sprinting, or it could be something else, but I didn't care. I was getting farther away from the twins and that's all that mattered.
Eventually after a long while of running, I stopped to catch my breath. That was when I turned around to see where everyone else was, but I didn't realize that I had ran this far ahead of everyone. Maybe I was faster than what I had thought.
I place my hands on my head as my chest heaves huge breaths, trying to calm myself down. My heart was racing from the adrenaline and the long while of running, but what I wondered most was where the twins went. They had to still be after me, but they wouldn't do anything here...right?
I guess I was wrong.
Suddenly, I'm knocked to the ground and a pair of hands are dragging me away from the trail. I don't have much time to recover from the blow, but soon I'm kicking and fighting to get out of his grasp. I hear him snarl from above me, finally dropping me into the dirt as I cough and try to catch my breath.
I grit my teeth as I look up, seeing both Aiden and Ethan standing there with their canines extended. "Why can't you just leave me the hell alone!"
"You know why we need you," Ethan snarls at me. "We spent ages looking for someone like you. We're not going to let you slip away that easily."
I stand then, fire and rage behind my eyes. I wasn't sure where my boost of confidence came from, but I liked it. "Do either of you two even have a brain? Take me! It's not like they won't figure out how to get me back! They'll make you and the rest of your sad excuse for a pack pay, I guarantee you that. So take me. I'd like to see you try."
Aiden and Ethan stare at me for a moment before their lips curl up in smiles. Eventually they're laughing, making me instantly lose my confidence boost. "Did you not think about what you just said? We're an alpha pack. If anyone comes for you then they'll die right along Erica. Nice try though."
Aiden finishes laughing. "Ya know, I think I'm starting to like him. He's very feisty; like a chihuahua."
My hands clench into fists, sick of them pushing me around. However, I couldn't do anything about it. Ethan turns back to me as his smile stays plastered on his face, and that was when I knew that I was going to be knocked out so they could take me.
Ethan's hand reaches towards me, but something stops it. My eyes widen when I look over and see Scott standing there, his eyes burning gold. He twists Ethan's arm until I hear bone breaking, along with the sound of his cries from the pain. Scott throws him back as he narrows his eyes.
"Get your hands off of him."
Aiden snarls at Scott then, and I knew that I needed to get back. I'm quickly backing away from the three of them as they all start to transform, hearing Ethan snap his bone back into place. He stands then as he roars as Scott, Aiden doing the same as well. Scott returns the favor before another scream sounds from off in the distance, directing all of our attention.
"What was that?" I say, but before anyone can answer me, Aiden and Ethan are both running off towards the sound, leaving me and Scott behind. I let out a breath of relief as Scott turns around and looks at me.
"You okay?" he asks me, now back to his human form.
I nod my head, starting to walk around him and to the sound of the scream. "Better than ever."
It doesn't take long before we arrive at the scene, seeing a group of teenagers surrounded around a tree. I see Stiles standing there as Scott and I make our way towards him, but that was when I saw what everyone was looking at. It was a kid...tied to the tree, blood staining his clothes and throat from head to toe. It looked like the same type of death as the kid at the pool.
"It's him...isn't it?" Stiles says as Scott walks up beside him. Scott and I stare before he nods his head, it finally clicking in my mind. This was the kid that Scott was talking about earlier in the locker room.
"Get back!" I hear someone yell, causing me to turn and see Sheriff Stilinski running up to the front. "Get this blocked off before they trample every piece of evidence there is."
Another woman stands beside him. "Everyone get back!"
Stiles pulls his dad to the side for a moment as he points at the kid's throat, showing him that it was the same as the others. "Yeah, I see it Stiles. Now you and Corey need to get back to school okay?"
Coach steps up then, yelling at us all. "You heard the man! Nothing to see here. Probably just some homeless kid."
Scott frowns. "Coach...he was a senior."
Coach shakes his head as his eyes lower to the ground. "He wasn't on the team, was he?"
Another scream sounds as my eyes follow the sound, seeing a blonde haired girl run over bawling. The other officer grabs her and keeps her back as she looks at the boy, more than likely being his girlfriend. She fights against the officer as she continues to scream. "Oh God, no!"
Sheriff Stilinski shoos the three of us away as Isaac walks up behind us, shaking his head. "Did you see the way the twins were looking at him?"
"Yeah, you mean how they have no idea what happened," Stiles finishes.
Isaac looks back at the twins, who were starting to walk away. "No, they knew."
"The kid was strangled with a garrot!" Stiles further proves his point. "Am I the only one recognizing the lack of werewolfitute in these murders?"
I nod my head with Stiles. "He's right. They're more human than wolf."
Isaac continues to argue. "You think it's a coincidence they turn up and bodies start to pile up?"
"Well, no, but I still don't think it's them."
"Scott?"
Scott looks between the three of us, trying to decide for himself what he thinks of the situation. "I don't know yet."
Stiles crosses his arms as he raises his eyebrows. "You don't know yet?"
"He's got a point," Scott says while pointing towards Isaac. "Seriously dude...human sacrifices?"
Stiles' eye starts to twitch, the thing he always does when his temper starts to rise. "Scott, your eyes turn into yellow glow sticks okay? Hair literally grows from your cheeks and then will magically disappear, and if I were to stab you right now it would just magically heal, but you're telling me you're having trouble grasping human sacrifices?"
Scott groans as he looks back at Isaac. "That's a good point too."
"I don't care," Isaac spits, fire in his eyes. "They killed that kid, they killed the girl that saved me, and they killed Erica...and I'm going to kill them too."
We watch Isaac walk away, leaving the three of us behind. We stand in silence for a moment before Scott turns back to me, his eyebrows knitted together once again.
"Why do the twins want you so bad?"
----------
We had a snow day today so I thought I'd write a chapter about my baby Corey. Was it good?
Teen Wolf is on tonight and I am not prepared tbh. I'm excited for Kira to be back though! I just would've figured they'd go and save Lydia first...but whatever works I guess. I'm excited for those skin walkers!
