04. Fate
"Lydia?" Stiles yells as he jumps out of the jeep, running to her as fast as he possibly could. It didn't take a genius to see how much he cared for her. "Lydia!"
I get out of the jeep then, pulling my hands out of the red hoodie Stiles had given me on the way out of the house. The cold nipped at my cheeks as I jogged after Stiles, turning the corner and seeing Lydia standing there next to the pool. She was wearing a bright green coat and honestly, she looked a lot different than the last time I had seen her. Her face really had matured.
"Are you okay?" Stiles breathes as Lydia nods, choking on the words in her throat.
"I'm okay," she says as her teeth chatter slightly. "But that guy over there...he's not."
My eyes drift over to the guy that was sitting up in the lifeguards chair, not really seeing much. All I could see was his back and a small pool of blood below him, and I had no intentions on going over there to get a look by myself. I could stomach things like this, but after being dead, it made me feel terrible for those who were too.
"I'll call my dad," Stiles says he starts to pull his phone out.
Lydia doesn't seem to notice me yet. "I already called 911."
"You called the police before you called me?" Stiles says, blinking his eyes rapidly.
Lydia furrows her eyebrows. "I'm supposed to call you first when I find a dead body?"
"Yes!"
Lydia winces slightly from his yelling, but soon she's looking over at me. "I'm sorry--but who are you?"
"Uh, Corey," I say, seeing something spin behind her eyes. That was when I remembered that she must remember my voice from when I was practically in her head. "I'm a friend of Allison's."
She narrows her eyes as Stiles steps to the side, calling someone. "You sound familiar."
I laugh slightly. "People always say that."
She brushes it off, but I can clearly tell that she knew something else was up. We both look back over at Stiles and see that he was checking out the body, sparking interest within me as well. I walk in front of Lydia as the boy comes into view, making my stomach knot. It was a horrible sight.
There was blood everywhere; all of it likely coming from his slashed out throat. He appeared to be around the same age as us, if not a year older. I've never seen him before and he didn't look familiar, but my heart ached for him. What a terrible way to die.
"-It's like the freaking Shinning over here," Stiles says, pacing back and forth. I guessed that he was talking to Scott by the tone of his voice. "If two little twin girls come out of the woods asking me to play with them forever and ever, I wouldn't be surprised."
Lydia and I listen to Stiles closely. "Scott, what do you mean if it was them? Who else is running around ripping people's throats out?"
Of course it had to be Boyd and Cora. But something about the body made it look un-werewolf like.
Stiles rips the phone down before looking over at me. "Go get a closer look, Corey."
I furrow my eyebrows. "What?"
"Scott wants to know more about the cut across his throat," he states.
I pull my hands out of the hoodie. "Why do I have to do it?"
"Because you're new in the mix," he says as Lydia rolls her eyes. "You're like the freshman with the seniors."
"I've been here longer than you think," I mutter under my breath so he couldn't hear. "If blood gets on your hoodie, it's on you!"
Everything is dead silent around me as I walk closer to the boy, the stench finally coming across my nostrils. The smell of copper and something relating to rotten meat was what hit me, and it almost made me want to vomit. I kept it together however, but as I got closer, I could tell that his throat wasn't slashed out by claws. It looked to be one clean cut. That wasn't the only thing that interested me however. There was also a purity ring around his finger.
"It wasn't a werewolf," I state.
Lydia whispers. "He knows?"
Stiles shakes his head. "Apparently."
"There's a purity ring around his finger too," I say as I ignore the both of them. "Might mean something later on."
Stiles steps forwards then, squinting at the ring. "Wait a second--Heather was a virgin too."
"Heather?"
"My friend. She disappeared two nights ago..." he fades out, sadness in his voice. "Oh God, if this happened to her-"
Lydia places her hand on Stiles' shoulder. "Stiles, don't worry yet. She could still be out there."
Stiles nods his head, but you can see the despair written all over it. "I hope so."
Lights then flash all around us, causing the three of us to look over and see the police pull up. I sigh as Stiles turns and places his hand on Lydia's back, leading her out of the area where the pool was fenced in. I follow after them as Sheriff Stilinski comes running up the three of us, a panicked look on his face.
"What the world are you three doing here?" he demands as we all think of an excuse.
"I found the body."
"I came here to help Lydia."
"I just followed Stiles."
The Sheriff was close to face palming, but he understood our reasonings. He nods back towards the Jeep before another couple of officers go rushing around him and into the pool area, going to take care of the body. "Go on home; we'll take care of it from here."
We all nod before he's walking after the other officers as well, who were already taking photos of the body. As I watched them, I couldn't help but imagine what I would do if it were someone else. Someone like Allison. But I pushed the image out of my mind, not being able to stand it.
"Come on, let's go home."
---------
Stiles had dropped me off before following Lydia home to make sure she got home safely. I would have went, but I had a feeling they needed to talk by themselves. After all, they're the crime solvers, not me. I only tag along.
I was now sitting on the living room couch, the batman blanket Stiles had thrown at me earlier sitting beside me. I somehow managed to find the remote to the TV, since I couldn't sleep. It was already almost two in the morning, making it hard enough as it was to try and sleep, but sleeping hasn't really come easy to me either since I did just come back to life.
A yawn escapes my mouth before I hear a knock on the door, causing me to furrow my eyebrows. What would someone want at two in the morning?
My muscles ache as I pull myself up off the couch, walking over to the wooden door. I rub my eyes as I open it slowly, seeing a blurry figure before it focused, showing me Allison.
"Allison?" I ask, but she was already coming into the house.
She looks around. "I was worried about you."
"What do you mean?" I scoff. "I'm literally in the Sheriff's house. Can't get much safer than that."
She scowls at me. "I mean, the alpha pack did take you once, and they can easily do it again. I don't want that to happen."
"Well I don't either," I say as she turns and walks into the living room, seeing that I had been watching some show on the CW. "But you can't just watch over me 24/7."
She looks back at me. "Why not? You did; why can't I?"
"I was dead Allison," I say as my eyebrows raise. "I couldn't really do much else."
She waves her hand at me. "Doesn't matter. I'm not letting them take you again."
"Who's to say they're even coming for me again?" I suggest. "Maybe they only wanted me as food for Boyd and Cora when they lashed out like that."
Allison turns and faces me then, her eyes narrowing. "You never did tell me what you were going to back at the police department."
"Oh yeah," I sigh. "I guess I didn't."
She sits down on the couch and mutes the TV, myself doing the same thing as well. I wasn't sure where to exactly start. Do I start with my abilities? Jade? What Deucalion said? I wasn't sure. But eventually it just sort of flowed out.
"When you had left, I had gone back to your house and found the gifts," I say smiling, almost forgetting about that part. "I had only opened two when someone came in and knocked me out...It was Jade."
Allison shakes her head, not believing me. "What? Jade? I thought she was dead-"
"I thought so too," I agree. "But she told me later that she had been bitten before we 'drowned'. When they took her to the hospital she was just healing...that's when the Alpha pack got her."
"She's an alpha now?" Allison says, eyes wide as I nod my head. "Damn, I missed a lot."
"That's not all..." I drift off. "When I first got to the bank, Deucalion had talked to me about why he wanted me. He told me something about a seer...I'm not really sure what they are, but he made me try something on Erica and--I'm not sure. It was like I was looking back at her past."
Allison's eyebrows knit together. "What? You're telling me you're psychic?"
"Something like that," I nod. "But every day for the past two months Deucalion made me practice it. I grew better every day, but not to the full potential he wanted me to be. He thinks that with enough practice, I can eventually see the future instead of the past. That's why he wants me; I can be used as an advantage."
Allison just stares at me for the longest time, trying to process what all has happened. I didn't blame her; it took me two months to finally swallow the idea of being something on the supernatural side. I've been on the other side for so long; it was strange to actually and physically be mixed into all of this.
She holds her hand out to me then. "Can you try it on me?"
I stare at her hand. "I don't know, Allison-"
"Please," she begs. "I want to see."
My mind debates whether to try it or not, but I could see how much she wanted me to, so I did. I took her hand slowly into my own, focusing as I closed my eyes. I had learned that you had to focus on something in particular about them to see a specific image. That's why for Erica I had seen something relating to her being bullied; since that's how I remembered her before she was bitten.
It doesn't take long before the shapes form behind my eyelids, creating pictures that swirled and spun. Colors splashed through my mind, but soon everything stands still, and it feels as if I'm almost watching some type of movie.
"Strike!" Allison says happily as she fist bumps the air, a wide smile on her face. I see then that she was referring to bowling; since she was in the bowling alley. She grins as she walks back to her seat, where Lydia, Jackson, and Scott were. They looked so young.
Jackson rolls his eyes. "That was just pure luck."
"That's her fourth strike in a row," Scott laughs. "If that's luck, I need some."
Allison crosses her legs as she sits down next to Scott. "Thanks, my dad taught me when I was a kid."
Lydia looks jealous. "Come on Jackson, it's our turn."
She practically drags the man up there as the two of them grab a ball, lining up for the shot. Allison looks up at the score, seeing that Scott was losing, before turning back to him. "I thought you said you were good at this game?"
Scott runs his fingers through his hair. "Um, yeah...I lied."
"Figures," Allison laughs. "All I want you to do is beat Jackson. That guy is such a douche."
Scott nods his head. "You're right on that one."
"I don't see what Lydia sees in him," Allison says, going into her own world as she stared at the two of them. "Sure, he's hot, but he treats her like crap. Maybe they're in love, but that's not something I want. I want a guy who wants to ask me how my day went. I want someone who loves me for me."
Scott almost looks love-struck yet heartbroken hearing this from Allison. "You'll find him someday."
"Someday..." Allison drifts off, sinking into her own imagination. It was then that the picture changed, seeing it from a different point of view. I was still looking at the bowling alley, but instead from the front, I saw it from the back; and that wasn't the interesting part.
Standing there was me; returning my bowling shoes. Goosebumps rise on my arms as I watch myself walk out of the alley, not even knowing that Allison was here that night. Not knowing that soon, all of what happened 3 months ago, was going to change my life forever.
I gasp as I pull my hand away from Allison, seeing her eyes staring at me in confusion. "What did you see?"
I shake my head, not sure if I should really tell her. "Just what happened three months ago."
"That's so weird," she says as she stares at her hand. "You can do that with anyone?"
I nod my head. "I guess so. Everyone I've tried it on worked so far."
Allison smiles. "I have a feeling we'll be needing that later on."
--------
Sort of a cute filler chapter. I wasn't sure how to mix Corey in with what happened this episode, since it mainly focused on catching Boyd and Cora. Next chapter should be more eventful hopefully!
And is it bad that I kinda sorta ship Corey and Lydia? Still not better than Corey and Allie, but still. Ugh, I ship Corey with everyone! I have a legit problem.
But guys omg I'm turing 16 in like two weeks and I got my car tonight! Let's just hope I can get my license *smiles nervously*
If you could vote and comment that would be lovely (:
