Twenty-eight
Olivia's POV:
My eyes shot open and immediately I burst out of the water, gasping for air as I frantically look around my surroundings, seeing that I was no longer in the clinic but a white room.
I was met with blinding white lights which causes me to rub my eyes to adjust my vision. The weird thing was the water didn't feel cold to me anymore. I was just...there.
I turn to see Scott already pushing himself up to get out of the tub so Stiles and I copy his actions.
I carefully step out of the tub, looking around at what seemed like the never-ending ceiling lights above us.
You would think there would be some sort of guide to show us where to go.
I felt this sudden urge to turn around, which causes me to listen to my gut feeling, only to see a tree stump that seemed like it was far away.
I turn to look at Scott and Stiles to see if they see it too, but it didn't take long to confirm my suspicious since they both start to take a couple steps forward to the tree stump.
I hesitantly take several steps forward as well, despite the fact I had no idea where it would lead us.
Once the three of us got close to the tree stump, Scott lifts up his sleeve and looks down at his tattoo, as if he compared the circles on the stump to his tattoo. He extends his hand to place the palm of his hand on top of the stump.
It felt like my hand had a mind of its own and it moved forward to press my hand against the stump, causing my vision to turn white.
I stumble forward and the surroundings around me changed, showing that I was in the woods.
"Mom, we should be finishing packing. Not going on a hike." I hear my voice nearby and I walk towards the sound.
"It's good exercise, hun. Besides, it's been a while since we last hung out."
This was when we first got to Beacon Hills.
My past self had rolled her eyes playfully as she and my mom happily walked along the trail. "That's because you were your boss's assistant when you were just supposed to be the receptionist. She basically abused your work hours so much that I barely saw you."
They both stop by a tree stump and take a seat on it, but as soon as I sit down, I see something spark from the tree stump which causes my past self to jump, retracting her hand away.
"What's wrong?" My mom worriedly asks but my past self shakes her head.
"Nothing. I think I just hit a splinter or something." She says and sits back down on the stump.
My mom's expression still remained with a frown. "I know Miami has been tough on us, but hey," My mom bumps her shoulder to her. "we're here now. A fresh start."
My past self nods. "I know. I have a feeling this place is gonna be different than how things were in Miami."
"How do you know for sure?" My mom teases. "Did you already see someone cute?"
"Mom!"
I laugh at my reaction, immediately remembering the feeling of embarrassment of how I was before.
"I'm just messing with you" My mom laughs and I see that I pull something out of my pocket. "What's that?"
"A bracelet. I got it for you before we left." My past self says and slips it on my mom's wrist. "A congratulations on your new and hopefully, better job."
She smiles. "I'll never take it off, I love it." I slip it on her wrist and she pulls me in a tight hug. "The way I see it, it'll symbolize how much work it took to get to where we are now."
"Cheesy, but I won't complain." My past self says and stands up, grabbing my moms hands to pull her up. "Now come on, let's go before I get lazy and leave the packing for later."
"Yeah right." My mom scoffs as they continue walking down the trail.
I walk over to the tree stump they had sat on and realize that it was the stump from when Scott, Stiles, and I first woke up to.
"You remember now, do you?"
I turn to see the shadow had flown down from the sky, hovering over the stump in front of me.
"And?" I retort, already tired of seeing the shadow. "So what if I do?"
"Do you know why you were shown this memory?" It asks but I shake my head. "Think back to what you saw."
"All that happened was just my mom and I talking." I cross my arms.
"Think harder. What happened just right before you sat down?" It persists and I glance down at the stump.
"There was this jolt of electricity," I say and the shadow nods in agreement. "Are you saying that's where I got my powers? I already had them already when I was younger."
"Yes, but think of it as an activation of the start of your abilities."
"So if I never had come to this town, my powers wouldn't have come," I conclude but it shakes its head.
"No, I'm the one that controlled everything. The promotion your mom spontaneously earned, the specific town you would live in, the specific school you would attend, the specific people you met, even the same route you took that introduced you to what really lied within the city." It reveals which causes my heart to drop.
"Y-You did all of that? Why?" I nervously ask, overwhelmed at the fact that every choice I made or did wasn't even just pure luck. "Why me?"
"You'll find out soon enough."
"No, don't give me that bullshit." I raise my voice. "You're just messing with my head so I don't believe you. I'm going back to the real world."
"You should've let Allison taken your place because now you have darkness in your heart." It says, landing on top of the stump. "I told you it was only a matter of time. Not only will it give the nemeton power, but it's going to change you."
"What?" I whisper as the shadow inched closer to me while several different shadows appeared from behind the trees. "Get away from me!"
I try to make a run for it but feel the roots wrap around my legs, planting me in place so I wouldn't move.
"Get off of me!" I yell angrily and flick my hands, immediately forming a flame and try burning the branches off. It works momentarily until it just continued to sprout with the roots crawling further up.
"We'll meet again, Olivia." The shadow says as it was only millimeters away from my body. "I'll show myself again eventually...just not quite yet."
"No!" I try to fight the grips but the shadows easily step inside me, causing the flames to burst which causes me to scream as my surroundings start to disappear darkness consuming my sight.
Allison's POV:
Stiles and Scott shot out of their tubs as they gasped for air once they resurfaced.
"I saw it," Scott exclaimed as he climbed out of the tub. "I know where it is!"
"We passed it," Stiles added, climbing out as well. "there's this stump, a huge tree. Well, it's not huge anymore, it was cut down. But it's still big, though. Very big."
"It was the night we were looking for the body," Scott continues as he turned to Stiles.
"The same night you got bit by Peter."
Scott turns to the rest of us with assurance. "We can find it."
"You guys were out a very long time," Isaac says to the two boys who were confused at their concerned expressions.
"How long is a long time?" Stiles questions.
"Sixteen hours...and the full moon rises in less than four." Deaton hesitantly responds.
The sound of bubbling water occurs in Olivia's tub and Deaton quickly walks towards it with concern. I follow after him and see Olivia's eyes were still shut as she remained motionless underwater.
"What's happening to Olivia?" I worriedly ask him. "Why didn't she wake up?"
"What?" Scott quickly walks over to the tub. "Shouldn't we all have woken up at the same time?"
"Yes but—"
"Scott, help me get her out of there," I say but Deaton grabs my wrist.
"You can't. If you take her out and she does end up waking up, the effects afterward could worsen." He warns.
"Well, we can't just leave her in there!" I shout as tears threatened to spill from my eyes. "I have to do something!"
"Olivia knew the risks, both of you did." Deaton softly says to me.
"Then send me in there too!" I kick off my shoes. "I can get her out of there."
"It doesn't work like that. This is something completely different." He says, gesturing to the boiling water. "You were her emotional tether and if you get sent in there as well, she won't wake up and neither will you."
"I'd rather get stuck in there with her than never seeing her again at all!" I yell, my heart practically hammering against my chest.
I feel a pair of arms wrap around me which causes my knees to buckle to the ground. "Allison."
"It should've been me." I sob as Lydia tried her best to console me, but it wasn't the same. I wanted Olivia's arms around me.
Why did every person in my life have to be taken away from me? What did I do to deserve this?
First it was Kate, my mom, my dad with the Darach, and now Olivia. The one girl I can open up and tell anything to. The girl who stuck by my side when I treated her horribly. The girl who made my heart skip a beat whenever she smiled, laughed, or just simply kissed me.
Not even Scott made me feel that way when I was with him. I needed her here with me.
When I thought all hope was lost, the sounds of water splashing followed with a gasp broke the silence in the room.
