Three
Olivia's POV:
After the whole crow incident in the class, the police and the EMTs showed up to check up on the students who had worse injuries than the others. I had texted my mom to explain what had happened, but she couldn't leave the hospital early since she didn't get off in a couple more hours.
Allison's dad ended up coming to the school along with a few other concerned parents and he worriedly checked for any marks on his daughter.
"Next time you have a feeling you wanna stay home, you stay home." He sternly says and Allison moves her hand away from his hold.
"I'm okay, Olivia managed to block me from the scratches." She says and I give a small nod.
"This is getting weird. First, it was the deer attack and now this?" I whisper so only they would hear. "It can't be a coincidence."
"Mr. Argent," We all look up and see Sheriff Stilinski walk up to us. "you wouldn't have any insight into this would you?"
"Me?" Argent asks.
Stilinski nods. "Yeah. All this bizarre animal behavior, you must have seen something like this before, right?"
"I'm not sure why I would or why you would think I would." He responds and Stilinski furrowed his eyebrows.
He gestures to Stiles. "I'm sorry, I-I could've sworn I overheard my son talking about how you're an experienced hunter."
Argent tenses at the term and glances at Allison before looking back to Stilinski. "Ah, right. Well...not anymore."
Stilinski nods and looks at me with concern. "Are you alright? Did they check on you yet?"
I nod. "Yeah, I'm okay."
He gives a small smile before he leaves then walks over to Stiles once more.
"Your mom called me earlier and said for you to come over to the apartment until you have to go to pick her up from work," Argent says and gestures to my face. "Especially since you got hurt."
"I just need to grab some things," I say, grabbing my bag from the ground and dust off the feathers that were on it. I walk out of the classroom to where my locker was and spin the dial to my locker combination.
"So you decided to come back." I look up and see Allison with her arms crossed as she hesitantly walked over to me.
"I did," I say as I grabbed one of the notebooks from my locker.
"Why?" Her eyes widen, but she clears her throat. "Not that I didn't want you to come back, I'm just curious."
I shrug. "Couldn't leave my mom behind. I also didn't want to leave without saying goodbye properly."
She takes a couple of steps closer to me. "Did you think about it?"
"Sorta, but I just had this...feeling that I couldn't leave. It's funny because the name of this city is kind of interesting." I say, trying to lighten the mood.
"How come?"
"The name Beacon Hills is almost like a beacon for the supernatural. There's always something weird happening to this place."
She softly chuckles. "You're not used to it yet?"
I playfully roll my eyes. "I've only been here for a couple of months. Do you really think anyone would be used to it?"
She drops her smile and worry fills her expression. "Are you sure you're okay? You should've been protecting yourself instead of me." She gestures to my face. "I feel guilty that the crows left some scratches on you."
I chuckle and grab the keys that I left on the hook. "I'll be fine. It's not like they won't heal." I grab my binder from inside and she opens her locker as well.
"But I still can't help but feel bad."
"Listen, I'm the one who made that decision and I don't regret it. I told you that before and I'm sticking to my word."
"But--"
"Where's Scott McCall?" We both turn at the lady in front of us as she was eyeing us, waiting for us to answer. "You're Allison, right? Olivia Flores?"
I furrow my eyebrows in suspicion. "Yeah, how do you know--"
She cuts me off. "Where's Scott?"
"He had to leave. He was supposed to be back in class--"
She cuts off Allison by harshly grabbing her arm, making my eyes widen. "Is he coming back?"
I glare. "Hey, get your hands off--" She grips my arm as well, immediately causing me to shut up and freeze.
It felt as if some sort of force was keeping me in place to prevent me from pulling away. She lets out a shaky breath but worriedly looks behind me. She lets go of our arms and quickly walks down the hallway.
Allison and I turn around, but whoever she was looking at had barely just walked away. I hold my arm seeing strange purple lines which cause me to frown.
"Damn, her grip was tight enough to leave a bruise?" I ask and she looks at her arm.
"Huh...me too." She says then see Argent walk to us with Allison's bag in his hand.
"Come on, let's get out of here. School can wait another day." He says as he guides us to the exit door. "Olivia, follow behind our car."
I walk over to my car and unlock the door, placing my bag on the passenger's seat. I turn on the ignition, but pull up Stiles's number and click call.
I connect my phone to the stereo and place it on the dashboard. As the phone rang, I pulled out of the school and followed behind Chris's car.
"Hello?"
"Hey, are you with Scott yet? Any updates?"
"Yeah. He went to the hospital since some girl brought Isaac there. Like always, some alpha tried to attack him when he went to get Isaac, but Derek got there on time." He explains, making me groan.
"Another alpha?"
"You won't like the next part I'm about to tell you."
"Is it that strong?"
"No, it's not just that..." He trails, making me start to get nervous. "it's an alpha pack and they're already here."
My eyes widen. "How the hell does that work? Isn't it just one alpha?"
"All Derek told us was that their leader was Deucalion and that they know Boyd and Erica got captured by them."
Memories from witnessing Erica and Boyd held hostage by Gerard made me sick to my stomach and I felt horrible. I should've done something. They should've come with Argent and I when we went to stop Gerard and the Kanima. They could've been free.
"Olivia? Hello?"
I blink a couple of times. "Sorry, I zoned out for a sec."
"Scott was asking if you were still in school."
"No, my mom called me out early and is having me stay at Allison's place until she gets off work," I explain then see the complex Argent parked his car by. "I gotta go. Update me if anything else happens."
I hang up the phone before he could answer and slow down the car to park behind them. I grab my backpack from the passenger's seat and step out of the car, locking it before I followed Allison and her dad inside.
It was definitely smaller than their last house, but I couldn't blame them for deciding to move. They were probably hurt by all the memories of Victoria and Kate.
Even though they were crazy, they still had happier memories that made it seem like they were normal.
"I'm gonna finish working on some things." Argent excuses himself as he opens one of the doors. "I'll be in my office if you need me."
Allison guides me to one of the doors at the end of the hall and opens it, showing several boxes that were still unpacked.
"Sorry for the mess, we barely moved in a couple of days ago." She says as she places her bag on the chair.
I inhale dramatically. "No offense, but either you have a new strong air freshener or you sprayed perfume all over the room." I tease and her eyes widen.
"Really? I thought the perfume I bought in Paris smelled nice." She says, showing me one of her perfume bottles on her desk.
I snort. "What is it called? Lé poop?"
She rolls her eyes playfully and nudged my side. "You're the first person to come in my room and I'm already getting insults?"
"I was just messing around," I say and take a seat on her bed since it was really the only thing that didn't have anything on top. "My mom had me switch rooms so I basically have to unpack again."
She takes out her binder from her bag and sits down beside me. Once she opens it, the note from earlier slips out and I immediately remembered the conversation we were supposed to have.
She picks it up from the ground and quickly shoves it back inside the pockets. I mean, we had to talk about it eventually.
"So...about earlier." I trail, not knowing how to start off. "You wanted to talk?"
She tenses up and she nods slowly. "Yeah."
"About what exactly?"
She fiddles with her fingers. "I didn't speak to you for four months after our last talk." She says, never sparing a glance as she spoke. "You deserve better than that."
"I get it though, you were grieving over your mom and your break up with Scott. Especially our talk before I...you know, left. I kind of deserved it when I never gave you a response."
"It was too soon to lay that on you." She shakes her head. "I should've understood your decision instead of ignoring you the whole summer."
"Well we're talking now, aren't we?" I bump her shoulder playfully. "It doesn't mean we aren't friends."
"Then what was that at school? We could barely mumble a word to each other this morning." She says and I scratch my neck nervously. "Especially you. You're..."
"I'm what?"
"You're different. Lydia's been telling me you go to the gym, you're practically close with Scott and Stiles, you're driving, a--"
"Lydia told you all of that?" I laugh and she nods. "How come?"
She shrugs. "I wanted to see how you were doing when I was gone." My eyes trail to her new trimmed hairstyle and just her overall look, causing me to smile. How the hell did I not notice it before? She tilts her head in confusion. "What?"
"You're different too. A good different." I say and she gives a shy smile. "I like the new look. It's cute."
Her face flushes at my small compliment and she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. "Thanks, Liv."
I lift my hand up, indicating for her to fist bump. "Anytime."
She lifts her hand to reciprocate but then stops midway and turns her arm, showing me her bruise. "Olivia, turn your arm."
I oblige and show her my arm and she places her arm next to mine as if she was trying to connect the lines of our bruises.
"What the hell..." I trail, seeing how it was practically the same shape but it was opposite from each other, almost like a church cross shape.
So much for a normal junior year.
