Song Insert 11
The song I always imagined for Charles and Marianne's father/daughter song is Wildflowers by Tom Petty. It's a very beautiful song with a theme of letting your child go. Charles was never able to be anything more than a distant spectator in his daughter's life. He has to let her go because she was never his.
Mathilde sings a Christmas carol during the New Years Eve party (New Years Eve falls within the twelve days of Christmas and is traditionally an important part of the Christmas celebration). The Christmas carol I chose is Les Anges Dans Les Campagnes which is the French version of Angels We Have Heard on High.
The song I chose for Marianne and Agnès to dance to is Magic by B.O.B and Rivers Como because it's a fun party song. It also has an over confident "Come at me, bro" feel to it which is what Marianne is trying to express in this scene.
The song I chose to end the movie with is Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. In this scene, Augustin and Marianne part, presumably forever. The song is a wistful reflection on a passionate yet short lived relationship, like that of Augustin and Marianne, and how it, like all things, couldn't last forever.
