Song Insert 10
I chose two songs from the time period for this section: Brother, Can You Spare A Dime? and Sidewalks of New York.
Brother, Can You Spare A Dime? is one of the most iconic songs of the 1930s and gives a voice to the era's forgotten underclass. I added this song for some period color.
Sidewalks of New York is a song written in 1894 and synonymous with turn of the century New York City, where Charles grew up. This would have been a song from his childhood which he taught to his first wife, Madeleine, who then sang it who their daughter Marianne. It is a lovely, wistful tune which would remind remind Charles of his youth and make him nostalgic.
The song I chose for the sequence where Marianne is getting ready to meet up with Faucherie is Young Gods by Halsey which has a dark, seductive, and dangerous feel to it which fits the scene. The man described in this song bares a lot of similarities with Faucherie and the scenario of a dangerous man seducing and manipulate a naive girl is a lot like his interaction with Marianne.
