Chapter 7
Hadriel was a warrior and he made every decision as such, but he was surprised that he'd agreed to this girls' insipid request. His entire being telling him to forbid Missouri from going to her home alone but what came out was 'go on." He defied his superior judgement but only because he knew that it was the only way for them to make some sort of progress. It wasn't as if he'd let her go alone, no! He would follow her himself since she was determined on independence.
Hadriel took the form of his gargoyle since he would be more inconspicuous than if he was in angel form. As self-obsessed as it may sound, he rather liked his gargoyle form. It wasn't as if he was stronger that way but because the ferocity of his form gave him a sort of guilty pleasure.
soaring in the dark night, the angel could hardly believe what he saw, Hadriel honestly hadn't thought that the demons would try again so soon especially since two of their kind were already killed, but there he was looming over Missouri's limp body which was sprawled lifelessly and awkwardly against unforgiving pavement.
With speed that was unmatched, Hadriel swooped down, landing with a thunderous clap as he landed on all fours between the demon and Missouri. He let out a murderous growl, his wings straightening as he rose to stand on two feet.
They stared at each other for a while each baring their most intimidating looks but to Hadriel, demons were scum and he was a great warrior. How could he be afraid? He couldn't, angels were feared due to their savagery and he was definitely no different. However it did puzzle him that the demon didn't flee at the sight of him, maybe he was a new born and didn't know the consequences of standing up to an angel.
The demon hunched slightly down and Hadriel knew that he was about to spring on him, the demon's feet left the earth, but Hadriel was ready, he moved his arm with such swiftness that only after the demon was flung to hit a brick wall did surprise conform his features.
Hadriel took the time to examine Missouri, he bent down transforming himself in his angel form, but he kept his wings concealed. He placed two fingers in her neck and realised that she was badly injured, he wasn't a healing angel but he did have some power, power that he'd only use on himself during battle to ensure he didn't die but they needed her and he was in charge of her protection.
Grabbing hold of her shoulder he wasn't able to heal her, angels and humans were different, the small amount of energy he had would've been able to heal him several times moreover but humans were weaker, all he was able to do was reduce the pain enough for her to gain consciousness.
Missouri's eyes fluttered open unwillingly to see a familiar silhouette standing over her. "We must leave." he spoke directly without a hint of emotion and Missouri was almost sorry that she'd survived. The look of utter annoyance that tainted his eyes made her squirm and wish to hide herself behind a boulder, away from him intimidating eyes.
Suddenly Missouri saw Hadriel stiffen, his head straightened, his eyes were on her but she knew his actual gaze was far off in a forbidden area. His head moved to his right slightly, his eyes didn't move and it seemed to Missouri that he was using his hearing, tilting his head in a favourable direction. Missouri's eyes went to the direction of his slightly turned head to see five dark shadows emerging from a distance, but if they were half as fast as their friend who lay sprawled against a wall they would be in touching distance in seconds.
Missouri sensed a change in Hadriel's form and she suspected it was due to the light creating flickering shadows. His head was tilted in the same way as before but in the opposite direction where five more demons emerged. She hardly saw him move, he was so fast, her eyes were unable to keep up with each movement, but she did however see the outcome, demons were thrown all over, some screaming in agony as their body turned lifeless.
Missouri finally saw Hadriel, he was in his gargoyle form, standing on a demon's chest on all fours, she saw a swift movement of his front legs and blood spilling out of the demons shredded chest. The demon tried to move away, Missouri was paralysed at the sight of the demon with wounds that would have killed any human instantly struggle with such force. The injury only seemed to further anger the creature.
Hadriel's front leg rose and with one fell swoop lowered it down on the creature's neck, his talons completely severing its head.
Without any real amount of time to remove his talons from the demon, Hadriel was attacked and fell forward, three demons surrounding him while one weighted him down with his body weight. Hadriel shifted and in due time he held the demons detached head in his mouth; tossing it aside he was more than capable of winning this fight. He was about to lounge on the remaining demons when a voice ran through the silence of the dark night.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." The demon had snuck up behind Missouri and held her captive, her hand held firmly behind her back with one hand while his other hand covered her mouth. "angel." he hissed the last word with such deep contempt.
The fire of war in Hadriel's eyes was extinguished, and he straightened, regarding the demon darkly as he returned to his angel form. Hadriel was quite.
"I see the angels are no longer as fearless as they once were, you are a disgrace, protecting a human?" The demon questioned, Hadriel smiled, something menacing and cold and Missouri, though it wasn't directed at her, felt her blood freeze, but yet he still hadn't spoken.
Sensing that Hadriel wasn't about to reply the demon lost his patience. He loosed his grip on Missouri and spun her around to face him and in no time at all Missouri felt sharpness across her temple sending her reeling into the land of unconsciousness one more.
Hadriel saw the blow and his features tightened he tried to rush to her side but apart from the two demons he injured, he was restrained. There were more demons here than he'd initially observed.
"We won't kill you angel, not until our master permits it." The demon spoke and led the way with Missouri cradled in his arms.
