Missouri was growing to hate such revelations; she suffered the same every time she was out of her depth. The vein at her temple pulsed as she tried to make sense of it all.

“You’re telling me that I am some mythical creature and that my father was not just any angel but God’s second in command?” Missouri clarified.

“Yes.” Metatron answered. She shook her head as more of a force of habit; she didn’t trust herself to speak any more.

“In your story you mentioned the transfer of God’s power to the Nephilim child. Is that Missouri?” Hadriel questioned, he knew Metatron said that she was the first of the species but he hoped that it was otherwise.

“It is Missouri, and before you ask me why, for I can see the question on your face, I will tell you. It’s called reversed energy vampirism. In the usual energy vampirism a supernatural entity can be drained of their powers by another entity that functions as an energy vampire, however, in the reversed the energy is willingly given and can only be done by God himself. But the entity is still drained and weakened.” Metatron responded.

“He continued to weaken Himself after he hadn’t recovered from his pardon sacrifice.” Muriel spoke the thought out loud.

“Exactly, he couldn’t give his powers to a mere human; they would be killed by the force. He therefore saw Missouri as a boon and knew she would be strong enough to harbour his powers until he could regain them.” Metatron replied.

“Regain them?” Leo picked out the words and eyed Metatron intently. Hadriel snapped to attention, “Is God alive?” he stretched out the last word in a deadly inquiry.

Metatron looked to Hadriel and them to Leo. “He is.”

Hadriel felt the angry shaking him, “You say your God is merciful, yet he allows such crimes to occur?”

“He is merciful! He is your creator and you mock his sacrifices?” Metatron exclaimed, a true loyal.

Hadriel laughed humourlessly and Missouri remembered that smile from the first night she met him. “Then where is he?”

“Without his heavenly powers he will remain drained, almost human. He is paying for his mercifulness.” Metatron supplied.

“Where is he?” Hadriel repeated his question.

“In hiding, but I can only guess as to where he went.” Metatron confessed.

Hadriel fumed as he began to recall it all, “Are you certain he even wanted to come back? Missouri happening upon this Cathedral was mere chance! If she hadn’t she would be dead and His exile permanent. So why leave her unprotected?” Hadriel questioned.

“He never leaves anything to chance. I can’t answer your question but I have complete faith in our God. He knew she would be safe.”

“Should we find him?” Muriel directed the question to Hadriel who had already decided upon that but without an indication of where he was, the task was near impossible and their time was running short.

“You know of everything that happened in heaven while we are all wiped of the truth, is there any place you suspect He might have gone?” Hadriel turned his attention back to Metatron, who shook his head in denial, his eyes downcast.

As if God himself whispered into his ears, Metatron’s eyes widened and he raised his head, the corners of his lips rising at the sides. “There is one place that the Council would never think to search for Him.”

“Where?” They all asked in unison.

“Purgatory.” Metatron answered and Hadriel stilled, with all the levels and souls He would be difficult to find.
