Chapter 29

"So what's on the agenda for today?" Adam asks as they head to the showers after breakfast.

"Job hunting." Tim answers as he turns on the water.

"I wonder if there is a radio station around here. I would really love to get back into broadcasting." Adam says as they shower.

"That's what we intend to find out, Sweetheart." Tim says. "The only thing I know how to do is sing. That could be a problem."

"Maybe not." Adam says as they step out of the shower.

"I think the others are going job hunting too, except for Avi and Chris. They're going to be working in the greenhouse." Tim says, slipping on his jeans.

"We all need to go to the post office too and get post office boxes. I don't think the bottle house in Resurrection will get us any mail." Adam chuckles.

"True." Tim laughs as they leave the shower room.

The couple wishes the others good luck on their job hunting as they head out to Tim's truck.

"You got your resume just in case?" Tim asks as he starts the truck.

"Yep and anything else they may ask for." Adam nods.

~~

"Hey, Babe? Isn't that a radio tower at the other end of town?" Tim points as they drive into town.

"You're right. I can't believe this little town has a radio station. That's awesome." Adam laughs.

"This town has quite a bit to be so small. A hotel, casino, and look they even have a candy store or factory or whatever the hell that is." Tim says as they drive by the building. "Jenika would feel right at home there." He chuckles.

"I'll text her and let her know. It wouldn't hurt for her to check it out." Adam says as he pulls his phone from his pocket.

"Olena and Sami could check out what might be available at the casino." Tim adds as they pass by the building.

Adam nods at Tim's suggestion while he chuckles at Jenika's GIF of someone doing a happy dance.

Their first stop was the post office to get a post office box. They now have an address for any applications that they had to fill out.

"Well, here we are." Tim says as he pulls into the parking lot.

Adam looks up from his phone and smiles.

"KACE-FM 98.3 Ace Country. That's perfect." Adam says as he reads the sign on the building. "Wish me luck."

"Good luck, Baby Doll." Tim says as he kisses his boyfriend.

Adam hops out of the truck and walks inside. Tim turns on the radio and finds the station's broadcast. The station played mainly modern country but did throw in a classic from time to time.

He didn't know how much time had passed but it felt like an eternity before he saw Adam exiting the building.

"Well? How'd it go?" Tim asks as Adam climbs into the truck.

"Very promising. They just fired one of their disc jockeys for making some racial comments over the air. I filled out an application and gave them my resume. They're going to check with the station I worked at in Mankato." Adam says. "They said they would talk salary if I get the job. Starting pay is $10.24 but with my ten-year experience, it should be higher." (a/n: Not for sure if the noted salary is correct)

"That's awesome, Sweetie. How bout I buy you a beer to celebrate." Tim smiles at his lover.

"It's a little early to celebrate don't you think?" Adam chuckles.

"Nope, cause they'd be stupid not to hire you." Tim says as he leans over the console and kisses the blonde on the cheek.

"In that case, I would love for you to buy me a beer. Better yet, a bourbon to calm my nerves." Adam laughs.

"I wonder if the others are having any luck." Tim says as they head back into town.

"I wonder how Chance is doing on the first day of his job." Adam says.

"I'm sure he's doing great." Tim replies as they pull into the parking lot of the Sourdough Saloon.

The saloon was not that busy considering it was the middle of the afternoon. The couple walks in and sits down at the bar.

"How's it going?" The bartender smiles as he walks over. "What can I get for ya?"

"Oh, pretty good, I guess." Tim smiles. "I'll take a beer and he'll take a bourbon."

As the bartender goes to fill their drink order, Tim glances around to check out the bar. It was actually bigger than it looked from the outside. One thing, in particular, caught his attention. A stage.

Tim reaches over and pats Adam on the arm to get his attention.

"Baby, look." He whispers as he points to the small stage.

"I thought I just about knew everyone in town." The bartender smiles as he returns with their drinks. "Guess I don't. (laughs) I'm Brad, Brad Paisley." He says as he holds out his hand.

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Tim Foust and this is my boyfriend Adam Rupp. We just bought some property outside of town." Tim says as he shakes the bartender's hand.

"Oh, you must be the guys that bought the old Rhyolite place." Brad says as he leans on the bar.

"Actually, here's ten of us." Adam adds.

"That's so awesome. I'm glad someone bought it before it rotted to the ground." Brad says.

"Listen, I noticed the stage over here. Do y'all have a live band?" Tim asks.

"Yeah, well, for two more weeks anyway," Brad says. "Carrie Underwood, the lead singer, is getting married and she and her husband, who is also the keyboard player, are moving to Vegas."

"Sooo, are they going to have auditions for another singer?" Tim asks.

"Probably so. Having live entertainment keeps this place alive." Brad says. "Let me go get the manager. She can tell you what you need to know."

"Okay. Thank you." Tim says before the bartender heads back to the office.

"Can you believe this? This is awesome. It's like jobs are just opening up for us." Adam whispers.

Tim sees Brad walking back into the bar area with a red-headed lady. The bartender points them out to her before walking away.

"Wow, it's nice to see some good-looking men sitting at the bar for once." The lady laughs as she walks over and extends her hand. "I'm Reba, what can I do for you?"

"Tim." Tim smiles as he shakes her hand. Her unusual country accent catching him off guard.

"Whoa, I love your voice." Reba grins before turning to Adam.

"Adam." Adam nods and shakes her hand.

"Thanks. Your accent is kinda out there too." Tim chuckles.

"Oklahoma." She smiles proudly.

"I was asking Brad about your entertainment and he told us that the lead singer and the keyboard player were getting married and moving to Vegas." Tim says.

"Yeah, she's kinda leaving me in a fix." Reba says as she shakes her head.

"Are you going to audition for a new singer?" Adam asks.

"I'd love to but this town is really not crawling with talented people." Reba laughs. "Do you sing?"

"I don't but he does and he also writes songs and just so happens to play the keyboard." Adam answers as he points to his lover. "There're even some of his performances on YouTube."

"Really?" Reba asks.

"I used to have a band back in Texas. We traveled around in an RV and performed at fairs, bars, festivals, anything we could find." Tim says. "We did covers to songs plus some of my own stuff.

"Interesting. I tell you what. I open the bar at eleven but I can get in touch with the musicians and have them be here at ten in the morning. Can you be here at ten?" Reba asks.

"Absolutely." Tim smiles.

"You can get with the band, work out a couple of songs and we'll see how it goes." Reba smiles.

"Thank you for giving me a chance." Tim smiles as he reaches for his wallet so he could pay for their drinks.

"No problem, Cowboy. And put that wallet away. The drinks are on the house." Reba smiles before walking back to her office.

~~

"HEY, BRAD?" Reba calls from her office as she stares at her laptop.

"Yeah?" Brad answers as he walks into her office.

"The guy that was at the bar earlier that was asking about the job? Tim? Did he tell you his last name?" Reba asks. Here she was thinking about giving a man a job that she didn't think to ask his last name.

"Yeah, it wasssss ... uhhhh..." Brad says as he tries to think of Tim's last name.

"Are you kidding me?" Reba asks.

"Yeah." Brad laughs. "It was Foust."

"You're fired." Reba laughs as she logs into YouTube and types in Tim Foust. "Hmm, here's one. Tim Foust Live at The Golden Spur. Let's see what he sounds like." She presses the play button.

"Well. Looks like we may have found Carrie's replacement." Reba smiles as she gives her bartender a high-five.
