Chapter 26

After Rob and Kelsey had left, Tim and Adam spent the whole afternoon in bed. Making love, talking about their past, making love, talking about their future, eating some snacks that they had brought with them and making out one final time before exhaustion overtakes them.

The area was so quiet. They were the only ones in their little community. Everyone else was still staying at the hotel. With no electricity, the place was in total darkness.

Tim had fallen into a deep sleep but Adam was a bit too nervous to sleep. He lays his head on Tim's chest so maybe the sound of his lover's heartbeat would calm him enough so he could get some sleep.

As Adam was just about to doze off, a sound reaches his ears. A sound that sent chills down his spine.

He found it hard to breathe as he listened. His heart felt as if it was going to beat out of his chest. Flashbacks flood his mind as he presses his body firmly against his sleeping lover.

"Tim?" Adam whispers in a shaky voice.

Tim jumps slightly and squeezes his eyes tightly shut as if he was having a bad dream. Sudden fear overtakes his mind. Something was wrong. Tim gasp as his eyes open wide. The fear he sensed was coming from Adam.

"Tim." Adam whispers again causing the brunette to quickly look around at him.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Tim asks as he wraps his arm around the blond.

"Shhhh. Listen." Adam says quietly.

Tim falls silent and listens intently. All he heard was sounds of the night. Crickets, owls, coyotes. He didn't hear anyone trying to break in or even footsteps outside on the rocky ground around their house. What had Adam so frightened?

"What am I supposed to be listening for?" Tim asks softly.

"That." Adam whimpers as he hears the sound again. He pulls himself even closer, if it was even possible, to his boyfriend.

"Are you talking about that howling?" Tim asks as he listens.

"Are those demon dogs? Did they follow us?" Adam asks as tears of fear fills his eyes.

"No, Sweetie. Those are coyotes." Tim answers as he kisses the blond on the forehead.

"Are you sure?" Adam asks, looking up at his boyfriend with a frightened look.

"Positive. Texas is full of them." Tim says. He reaches over on the nightstand and grabs the flashlight. "Come on, I'll show you."

"Are you nuts?" Adam asks as Tim takes his hand and pulls him up from the bed.

"A coyote won't attack a human being unless they are cornered or feel threatened. They're not like wolves." Tim says as he leads Adam out on the porch.

Tim shines his light around until he catches sight of some eyes. They were definitely coyotes.

"See. There they are." Tim says as he points at the eyes.

"I've never actually seen a real coyote before. They look like normal dogs." Adam says as he watches the animals run away.

"They're much smaller than wolves but they can still cause a lot of problems if you have chickens or even pets." Tim says.

"D*mn, that was scary." Adam says as he breathes a sigh of relief.

"You think you can go to sleep now?" Tim smiles as he kisses the blond on the temple.

"Most definitely. I'm exhausted." Adam answers as they head back inside.

Tim is awaken by a knock on the front door. The sun was already shining through the bedroom window.

He grabs his boxers and puts them on. Looking down at his lover sleeping soundly, he slips from the bedroom and closes the door behind him.

"Oh, sh*t." Tim groans and covers his eyes from the bright sun after opening the front door.

"Morning, sleepy head." Chance chuckles.

"What time is it?" Tim growls as he tries to open his eyes.

"About nine. I brought you guys some breakfast." Chance says as he follows Tim inside.

"So how was your first night in your new home?" Sami asks as she set two cups of coffee on the coffee table.

"Rough." Tim groans as he plops down on the couch.

"Oooo, tell me more." Sami giggles as she sits down beside him.

His backside was pretty sore but that wasn't exactly what he was talking about. He runs a hand through his messy hair as he glances around at the small girl.

"Get your mind out of the gutter, Sweetheart." Tim smiles as he fixes his coffee.

"You can't tell me that you two didn't have sex the first night alone in your new home." Sami says with a shake of her head.

"Yes, we did have sex. Several times to be exact. But that's not exactly what I was referring to as being rough." Tim says, sipping his coffee.

"Did something bad happen? You didn't have any trespassers did you?" Chance asks in a concerned tone.

"Actually, we did. But our trespassers were coyotes. Adam kinda freaked out about it." Tim says. "He thought they were demon dogs. He was scared to death."

"Is he still asleep?" Sami asks.

"Yeah." Tim answers with a nod. "It is creepy dark out here at night. But beautiful at the same time. We may vote on having street lights installed."

"That probably wouldn't be a bad idea." Chance replies. "Have you been into the train station lately."

"No, I figured I would wait until they were finished." Tim answers as he takes a bite of his breakfast.

"Believe it or not, they are finished. Those guys worked their asses off. All the appliances are supposed to be delivered today." Chance says. "The power and water are already hooked up."

"Wow. That's awesome. I guess we need to do some shopping for food and the necessities, like toilet paper." Tim says with a chuckle.

"That's true. Chance and I are moving in today and so is Jenika and Avi." Sami says.

"Give everyone fair warning about the coyotes howling at night so they won't freak out as Adam did." Tim says.

"The contractors are going to split up and help finish up the other houses and the guest house. So everyone else will be moving out here soon." Chance says.

"Cool. We've gotten rid of the rental cars and soon that hotel bill. That will save us a sh*t load of money." Tim says, taking another bite.

"I noticed a garage in town, as we were leaving, that had a help 'wanted sign' in the window." Chance says. "I think I'll put an application in. I love working on cars."

"That's awesome. Adam and I need to go job hunting too." Tim nods.

"Oh! Chance and I went to a bar last night called 'The Sourdough Saloon'. It was so cool. They had a live band. The owner told us that the lead singer was fixing to get married and move to Los Angeles. You might check in on that." Sami says.

"Sounds interesting." Tim says with a nod.

"And with Adam having worked at a radio station in Minnesota, maybe he could check in on a nearby radio station for a job." Chance adds.

"I think he would love to get back into radio." Tim replies.

"There's a lot of restaurants and stores in town. I don't think it will be hard for me, Olena and Jenika to find a job." Sami says.

"Don't forget the casino." Tim adds.

"Oh, that would be fun." Sami smiles.

"Tim?" Adam calls with a yawn.

They look around to see the blond standing in the doorway, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Uh, Sweetie? Are you forgetting something?" Tim asks with a smile. "Like maybe, some underwear or something?"

"Huh?" Adam opens his eyes to see Chance and Sami smiling and waving at him. He looks down and realizes he was standing there completely naked. "Oh, sh*t!" He turns and runs back inside the bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
