Chapter 27

"What the hell took you so long?" Death said in an annoyed tone, his eyes a dark shade of green. I don't think that he was too happy with his grounding, he grew weary of mundane activities such as driving.

"I was busy. What do you want?" Devin asked in a bored tone.

"I need you to unground me," Death gritted his teeth.

"You're still grounded for another 37 hours."

The look on Death's face was nothing short of pure hatred, there was so much venom in his glare. I had no words to describe it.

"Please Devin," I said softly. While on the one hand, I didn't want to interfere but on the other hand, I really needed to learn more about my parents. I put on my best puppy dog eyes as I pouted my lips.

"Fine," Devin sighed as he finally gave in. He'd never been able to resist me begging and I'd be damned if I said that I didn't use it to my advantage.

"It's not for you and don't catch up to any of your usual misdemeanours."

"No promises," Death grinned cockily,"let's go princess."

"Alexandrea, we need to talk," Devin nodded his head towards his room.

I swallowed the ball of fear building in my throat. Devin had used my full name; people only use your full name when they have bad news or when you're in some serious shit.

"I have to go away on some business for a few weeks and I'm trusting Death to look after you."

"What!? No!" I objected loudly.

"Alexandrea, I'm sorry. I wish I had a choice but-"

"You promised you'd always take care of me," my mind flashed back to the moment we'd shared in the garden, just days after I'd met him.

"I know Alex but-"

"And now you're leaving me with the guy who tried to beat me to Death just a few weeks ago?"

"I'm sorry," he pulled me to his chest, his abs were rock hard against me, it was very hard to remember to be mad at him.

"Promise me that you'll come back," I muttered softly against his soft shirt, I needed to get back on my bipolar medication.

"Always," he kissed the top of my head.

"Best friends forever loser," I laughed as he started out the room.

"Please just stay alive dork," he flashed me his perfect smile and then he was gone.

I aimlessly wondered down the hall as I swung from side to side.

"Aren't we supposed to go see my mom?" I folded my arms as I raised an eyebrow at Death.

"I have to go feed on pathetic human souls princess," he slipped on his black leather jacket, "but if you want to join me, you're more than welcome."

"You know what, maybe I will," I grinned cockily, he wouldn't have expected me to say yes. One point for Andrea and about a million points for Death.

"Then come on princess," he smiled mischievously, "we're going on a trip."

"Where are we?" I asked as we arrived at what I assumed was our destination.

"Trump Towers," he answered simply as he took a step inside.

"Seriously?" I raised an eyebrow.

"No, as much as I'd love to kill Donald Trump and save America, my meals are strictly organized thanks to a certain friend of mine."

"Then where are we?" I pressed on as I followed him like a lost puppy.

"Visiting a friend. Now princess, I don't recommend that you come with me."

"Why not?" I crossed my arms.

"Because I said so."

"Wow, have you ever consider becoming a lawyer? Cause you'd be amazing."

"Princess, it's going to get pretty ugly. I'm 100% sure that you don't want to come along so you will stay here. Isn't that right?"

"You're right," the words left my mouth before I even knew what I was saying.

"Good girl," he flashed me his pearly white teeth. I was still trying to get the spongy feeling out of my head as he stepped through the double doors of the building.

"No fair," I muttered to no one in particular as I impatiently tapped my foot on the ground.

"Hey Alexandrea," I heard a voice say from behind me.

"Hey Aiden," I grinned, "are you stalking me or something?" I added playfully.

"Don't you wish," he scoffed, "Wanna grab something to eat?"

I laughed out loud, "Sure, why not?"

I followed him around a corner and down the road. I significantly slowed down as we approached a church.

"What are we doing here?" I stopped in my tracks.

"I come here to think, come on," he reached out his hand. I took a deep breath before I grabbed his hand and followed him into the chapel.
