Chapter 2

Not edited

***

I did my snoopy celebration dance as I found the Double stuf Oreos I'd hidden in the pantry. I could barely control my happiness as I took a bite out of the chocolatey heaven. My parents were out for their anniversary so I had the house to myself, for the whole week! I missed my freedom in Hell. It had been two weeks since I'd been resurrected and I hadn't been contacted by a single angel or demon of any kind.

"Save me some will you," a voice whsipered softly into my ear.

"HOLY SHIT!" I screamed grabbing the closest thing to me and hit my attacker over the head with the red hot pan.

"Ow," Death looked at me with an annoyed look on his perfect features as he rubbed his shoulder where the hot pan had hit him with my full force.

"Jesus Christ! I'm so sorry! Are you okay!?" I started to panic, what if I'd actually hurt him?

The bastard just laughed.

"Nope, not Jesus. Guess again," he rolled his shoulder and the pain seemed to subside within seconds.

"Next time I'll aim higher," I grumbled, returning my attention to pouring the pancake batter into the pan.

"Ncaw, is Kitty too short to hit my head," he taunted me with a smirk on his face that I wanted to smack right off.

"First of all, I am not short, I'm vertically challenged and you, mi compadre, are just way taller than the average person. Second of all, I am perfectly capable of hitting your head and I actually wouldn't mind doing that right now so don't test me." I expertly flipped a pancake and caught it with a triumphant smile on my face.

"Ooh, Kitty's being feisty," he said with his mouth full. Wait a second, what was he eating? I turned around and what I saw was going way too far.

"You little piece of shit!" I shouted as reached over the counter to grab my Oreo's back from the food thief.

"Oopsies, I got caught with my hand in the cookie jar," he said cockily, popping another Oreo into his mouth. He simply stepped back from the counter and me being the hungry, over-protective of my food kind of girl that I am, jumped over the counter and tried to knock him down.

He just side stepped which resulted in me landing face first on the cold floor. "Oof," the breath escaped my body as my stomach crashed against the hard tile.

I groaned as I pushed against the floor to get myself into a seating position. I was in no mood to stand up as I did not see the point in giving him any way to humiliate me further.

"Sorry," he said with absolutely no remorse, "Want an Oreo?" he asked, handing me the box.

"Thank you," I said, grabbing the box from my new comfy spot on the floor.

The box was empty.

That's when I lost it, I lunged for him. My full body weight knocked him over onto his back.

Well this was an awkward position. I had meant for me to hit him repeatedly over the head with the Oreo box but instead I was sprawled all over him on the floor.

"You're, suffocating, me," he said in a muffled voice from underneath me. It was then that I realized what I was suffocating him with. "Oh my gosh," I rolled off of him and immediately pulled up my top. I mean it's not everyday your cleavage decides to suffocate someone you were trying to kill.

"Well then, that was fun," Death stiffled a laugh as he got up, his gaze settled on my still exposed cleavage.

"Hello? My face is up here," I snapped my fingers in front of his face. His eyes shot up and we locked gazes for a moment. Me, giving him the evil eye. Him, studying me, calculating if I was going to attack him.

"I smell smoke," he broke the silence.

"Shit!" I cussed, rushing to the stove on which there was currently a flame starting on the oil that I'd spilled when I hit him.

"Shit, shit, shit!" I tried hitting it out with the dishcloth. All that seemed to do was spread the damn fire. Now the entire stove was lit.

The fire was spreading quickly and the smoke was a thick mist in front of my eyes. "Andrea?" I heard Death call out. My lungs were cloaked with smoke, my eyes tearing as the burning gas stung them.

"Here," I tried to yell but it came out as nothing more than a raspy whisper. Then the smoke alarm went off, stopping the fire before anything too extreme happened, like an explosion; with the things I left around, it wasn't impossible. I was soaked from head to toe but at least the fire was out. I tripped over something and stumbled halfway across the kitchen before I fell into a pair of strong, muscular arms.

"Why hello there, I don't believe we've formally met," the creature smiled down at me. My vision flickered. Sometimes I saw a handsome man with sharp features in the angles of his face, but then I saw a hideous creature with pale skin and two narrow dark slits for eyes. "I'm Azule and according to my sources, you're not supposed to be alive right now sugar."

The coldness of his voice sent shivers down my spine as I tried to wriggle out of his tight grip. Black spots danced in and out of my vision as my body screamed for air.

"Get your filthy hands away from her," a growl came from the thick black cloud. My lungs were begging for oxygen.

I felt someone take my wrist and raise it up. At first I thought that someone was going to check my pulse but as I opened my eyes, I realized how naïve I had been. A sick smile played on Azule's lips moments before his sharp fangs sank into my wrist..

I screamed at the pure agony of the pain that came as the pointed teeth broke through the sensitive skin. I got pushed out of the way and less than a second later, a curved blade made contact with the pale skin on the demons neck.

There was a hissing sound as the demon made a failed attempt to dodge the attack. The ash from what was once the terrifying creature floated down to the floor next to me.

"Andrea! Andrea look at me," Death said shaking me as I tried to lift my heavy eyelids. I winced as he inspected my stinging wrist, the pain was absolutely excruciating, I could feel it pulsing through the rest of my arm.

"Shit! The venom is spreading into your bloodstream."

I weakly opened my eyes to see what he was talking about. Sure enough the veins in my wrist were turning a dark black as the venom coursed through.

"I'm sorry," he said as he brought his soft lips to my wrist. I screamed in agony as he sucked out the venom, his own fangs extending into my skin. I felt like someone was piercing me with a white hot knife, repeatedly stabbing me in the same place, tearing the burning blade through the raw skin, the agonzing pain was like nothing I'd ever felt before.

The last thing I saw was my wrist stained with the new, dark shade of my blood as his face tore away from the two puncture marks on my skin.

Then it was black...

"Andrea," a distant voice called me from the darkness. "Andrea!"

I slowly opened my eyes and winced at the harsh light. "Thank God you're awake, we've been worried sick about you," Devin said in a panicked tone.

"You've been worried sick," someone corrected from the corner of my silver bedroom. How ironic, just like the first time we met.

"You couldn't show at least a bit of sympathy," I snapped, sitting up straight.

"Sympathy is for the weak," he scoffed.

"Death," Devin growled in a warning tone. His voice softened as he turned to me, "How are you feeling?"

"Perfect actually," I gave him jazz hands. "See, perfectly fine," I laughed.

"Except for the fact that I'm wearing a Hello Kitty plaster, really? Who's genius idea was that?" I wondered out loud as I noticed the bright pink on my wrist.

"It's the only brand they had," Death mumbled from his dark corner.

"Funny. I didn't think you were the Hello Kitty type, doesn't exactly fit the bad boy vibe," I taunted him.

A low growl escaped from his mouth and his eyes turned a vividly dark shade of green.

"That's enough you two," Devin interrupted."I'd like all of us to worry about the situation at hand."

"Why did the demon attack you?" Devin asked me.

"I don't know," I said because honestly, I had no clue what was happening. "It said that I wasn't supposed to be alive," I continued. "I thought you controlled all the demons," I raised an eyebrow.

"Lately something's gone wrong. The demons aren't obeying me and souls are still disappearing all over the place."

"I remember now," I said as the memories from my time in the garden flooded back to me. "You, you were there," I pointed acussingly towards Death as he leaned against the wall in the dark corner. "You said that it was time for me to go. You did this to me," I said shakily. My heartbeat felt foreign to me, even after two weeks of being alive, I still hadn't gotten used to having blood pumping through my body.

"What?" Devin turned to Death. "This was you?" the disbelief evident in his voice.

I felt Death's glare cut through me all the way straight through to my soul , if looks could kill...

"Answer me!" Devin's voice boomed, he was livid. The green eyes turned away from me.

"Yes," he deadpanned.

I could see the flames dancing behind Devin's coal black eyes. "I strongly suggest you explain yourself before I rip your wings out of your bloody back," his voice laced with venom as he managed to spit out the words.

"We're bringing the souls back to Earth. The resurrection has begun, we intend to destroy the balance. Put the Underworld in a position of power, if you're interested that is," he added.

"What do you mean we?" I said in a low breath.

"Sebastian," Devin said in such a cold voice that it sounded foreign to his tongue. "Tell him he can rot in Hell for all I care," he spat out.

"You're choosing the wrong side," Death warned.

"The Elders will stop you."

"Do you honestly think that the elders can beat us? We've outnumbered them by thousands! All those oldies have been doing for the last millennium is sitting on their high thrones! They may be the first angels but they haven't been to battle in centuries, they don't stand a chance."

Devin's eyes glazed over. "I wouldn't have to stay in this hellhole anymore?" he seemed to actually be considering it.

"Devin you can't honestly be thinking about-"

"Shut up Andrea," Death cut me off with a menacing glare.

"I'll help you but at a price."

My jaw dropped at Devin's response. "I want to talk with him," his voice broke on the last word. "I want to know why my own brother did nothing as he watched them rip my wings out of my back and cast me down to Earth."

I was shocked speechless to say the least. He had a brother? He'd never told me this before.

"It's a deal," Death agreed.

"No, Devin. This is wrong, you can't just-"

"It's time for you to leave Andrea. The house has been repaired." he cut me off.

"Time to go princess," Death didn't even wait for my answer as he stepped closer.

The swirls of warm air sent butterflies flying madly in my stomach as the bright light forced me to shut my eyes. Seconds later, I was standing in my front living room.

It was as if nothing had happened. "How?" I said in awe as I ran a finger along the counter to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating.

"Magic," Death said making a poof motion with his gloved hands.

I rolled my eyes at him as I walked over to the pantry, I've had a long day and I was hungry.

"Oh my gosh! Is that real?" I said as I took in the miraculous sight before my eyes. The cupboard was fully stocked with Double stuf Oreos, Wonderbars, Hersheys kisses and various forms of chips.

"Yep," he popped the p.

"I love you so much right now!" I said as I grabbed a box of Oreos from the shelf. "Want one?" I offered with my mouth full.

He shook his head. "Oh well, more for me," I popped another one into my mouth as I sat down on the couch.

Moments later an agonizing pain spread through my stomach, as if someone was constantly stabbing me with a knife. "Oh God," I wailed, clutching my stomach as I ran to the bathroom.

"Andrea?" Death's voice sounded through the shut door. "Are you okay?"

I wiped my mouth with a tissue as I flushed the contents of my stomach down the drain. The after taste of the vomit in my mouth was revolting. I rinsed my mouth with some Listerine before I opened the door.

"What's wrong?" Death asked, the concern evident in his voice. "Just feeling a little sick," I said as I climbed the staircase to my room.

"Your body is trying to get rid of the venom," he explained as I grabbed the human size teddy bear on my bed. I buried my face in the soft fur as another wave of nausea crashed over me.

"How do I make it less painful?" I groaned as I clutched Mr Cuddles to my stomach.

"The only way to fully rid your body of venom would be dark magic."

"I'm sorry but I don't happen to be carrying a bag of pixie dust with me," my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"I know someone."

"You do understand that the last time someone said that to me, I ended up in a drug deal right?" I remembered that awful night all to clearly. My best friend Keatyn had accidently (she was drunk) gotten us involved in a messy drug deal gone wrong and the cops had gotten involved. Luckily, my parents knew that I would never resort to drugs and I got off with a warning.

"This is magic, not drugs," he sounded like he was slowly losing his patience. The pain shot through my stomach again.

"Who?" I was willing to do anything to stop these awful cramps.

"You'll see when we get there Princess," he said with a mischievous smile.
