Chapter 14

I opened my mouth to scream but before I could even breathe Sebastian's hand had muffled my scream.
"Shhh, don't make a sound." I nodded as he slowly removed his hand from my mouth, his eyes searching for any sign that I would give him away.
"I won't say anything," I said in a hushed whisper.
"It's not you I'm worried about. It's your thoughts."
"Yeah, Death has no sense of privacy and trust me I wish that I could-"
"It's not Death, someone else. I'm blocking Death, as a matter of fact he's very confused but this other person... it's almost like they're a part of you."
"What?" I asked in shock. Someone else was in my head. "Can no one respect my privacy!?"
"Keep it down!" Sebastian whisper-shouted.
"Sorry, what are you doing here?"
"I came to warn you. That little stunt you pulled, running away to that club?"
"I can explain-"
"No need," he interrupted me. "You shouldn't have done it but it's too late now. They have your scent. You attracted at least 17 demons to that club that night, had Jacob not shown up it would've been brutal."
"Jacob?" I swallowed my fear as I heard the name.
"He's still looking for you. He's going to kill you Andrea, I don't know why but he will and he won't hesitate. He's ruthless, the worst I've ever met. The only reason he stopped those demons from killing everyone in that club in order to find you is because he wanted to keep a low profile. You have to promise me that you won't do that again."
"I promise," I said truthfully. No more field trips for me thank you very much. I'd had my fair share of near death experiences and I didn't feel like adding to the list.
"I have to go before someone finds me. Stay safe Alex," he disappeared. No light, no smoke, no flash. Just gone.
Jacob. What did he want with me? Who was in my head? Why couldn't my life just be simple?
"What just happened?" Death looked a bit angry as he slammed my door open heading straight towards me like a bulldozer.
"Ouch," I winced as he grabbed my wrists, scanning me for injuries. I wrestled me arm free from his tight grip.
"Answer me," he demanded.
"Nothing, I don't know what you're talking about."
"When did you learn to block your thoughts?" he narrowed his eyes at me.
"I don't know," I lied.
"Who taught you?"
"What is this? An interrogation?"
"What's going on here?" Devin asked as he saw Death towering over me.
"Someone's been in here," Death said as he sniffed the air. "And little Ms.Princess here is refusing to tell me who it was."
He stalked towards me as I tried to step back, I fell onto the bed.
"Death, if you don't stop right now I'll... I'll..." I tried to think of a good thing to say.
"You'll what?" He said with a sick grin as he moved closer.
"Death," Devin said firmly. "Don't test me."
I breathed out a sigh of relief. Death wouldn't dare to go against Devin's orders. Or at least, that's what I thought.
"I wanna know who was here!" He demanded as he pinned me to the wall. His hot breath was in my face and his pupils were covering most of his iris, the thin circle of green that surrounded it turned a dark shade which meant that I was in some serious shit.
"Leave me alone!" I demanded as he flew back and hit the other side of the wall. I stared at the crack on the wall in wonder. Was it even possible that I...
"You bitch," Death wiped the black blood off his chin with his sleeve. "You're dead when I get my hands on you!" He charged towards me.
"Stop!" Devin ordered and time seemed to freeze.
"Let go of me you bastard!" Death roared as Devin held him back from me. Everything seemed to be in slow motion and every sense was magnified. I could hear every sound in the house but one really stood out, a steady thump downstairs...
I practically flew down the staircase, my legs moving so quickly that they barely touched the stairs. My instinct told me that I was getting closer to whatever it was.
"Keatyn? What are you doing here?" I threw my arms around her in a tight hug.
"You're crushing my bones," she choked out. I quickly released her.
"Sorry," I said in a small whisper.
"I'LL KILL HER!" Deaths roar shook the floors.
"Uhm, what was that?" Keatyns voice went all squeaky like it usually did when she was scared. Finally, I wasn't the only one to show fear at Death's pathetic outbursts.
"I just signed my death contract," I shrugged my shoulders. Keatyns eyes widened in fear.
"Shouldn't you like, run or something?" She looked beyond terrified at this point.
"Nope, last time I did that it didn't end very well." That was one way to put it.
"Well, uhm, I'm not sure what to do in this situation."
"Me neither," as soon as the words left my lips Death was standing in front of me with a menacing look in his eyes.
"I'm not scared of you," I stated firmly. Where my sudden boost of confidence came from I had no idea but this only seemed to amuse him.
In an instant I was somewhere else. An abandoned school it seemed but there was shattered glass everywhere. A million of my reflections stared back at me. I hated broken glass, it reminded me of one of the awful memories from my childhood. My mom had gotten back from work early and had decided to take me out for ice cream. As my mom approached the counter to collect our ice creams a gunshot had gone off. The bank opposite the ice cream store had been robbed and the police had opened fire on the thieves. One of the stray bullets had hit the window right above me and I remembered screaming as the broken glass fell around me, several pieces had lodged in my skin and I could almost still feel the painful sting as the doctor had removed them. There'd been so much blood...
"What the-" I started but I had no time to finish my sentence because in that moment a hand covered my mouth. A sick laugh came from behind me as I looked into the reflections. My heart started pounding as the clown behind me drew out a knife with his free line. The creepy smile painted on his face seemed to broaden as he brought the knife closer to my face.
"No!" I screamed but I was back in the living room. Death giggled at the horrified look on my face. He actually giggled.
"You're fucking insane!" I screamed at him.
"Diagnosis and everything," he said cockily.
"Death," Devin sounded annoyed. "Would you like me to ground you?"
Ground him? I laughed out loud. "Haha, you're grounded," I sounded childish but it was funny. The angel of Death? Grounded like a high school boy? It was impossible not to laugh.
"I'm not done with you Kitty," Death growled and in a moment he was gone.
"Good riddance," Keatyn said. "I did not like how I got here."
"I apologize for Death's methods of getting you here," Devin said as Keatyn took a seat on the couch. "I would stay to chat but I have other matters to attend to."
Keatyn and I nodded as Devin turned to leave. "Oh, one more thing, Andrea, please don't do anything stupid." And then he was gone.
