4.
Four sat down with the other initiates. I sort of LOL inside, and turn at Quin smiling.
This blonde, Dauntless-born girl (well, I can see that because of how she put her hair) comes up to me. ''Hey, do you have muffins?'' She asks, leaning over the bar smiling. I look at Quin. ''Um... Sure. I'll look.'' Quin says, and walks away to the back of the kitchen. I stand there, awkwardly. ''Hi. I am Marlene. Sixteen.'' She introduces herself. ''Ah. Sixteen. So you are into your initiation?'' I ask. Marlene nods proudly. ''The training starts tomorrow. We get ranked apart from the new initiates.'' She says. I nod. ''It was the same last year.'' I say. Marlene smiles at me. Then Quin comes back with a fresh muffin. ''Ah. Thank you so much.'' She smiles, and walks away to a table where her friends are sitting. Some of them I guess I have to train. Plus Marlene. Maybe it would be a fun group. I turn around, and start continue my work again.
''So... Good morning everyone. My name is Demi. I will give you training together with Keith and Carrie here.'' I say, pointing at them. A tinted boy called Uriah laughs. ''Two girls? This training is going to be awesome!'' Marlene, who is standing next to him, pokes him in his side. ''Stop it, Uri.'' She says. Uriah laughs, and pays attention again. I giggle. ''Okay, let's start.'' I say. ''What about... Uriah versus Lynn?'' I say. Uriah looks at Lynn, confidently. Lynn rolls her eyes, and walks to the ring. ''Pantsycake.'' She spits. Uriah chuckles.
After the training, I decide to search for Nadine. I haven't even seen her at breakfast. I haven't seen her at all actually, these past days. So I decide to knock on the door of her apartement. ''Nadine?'' I ask, as I slowly push the door open. The first thing that I see, is the mess in her room. Second of all, she indeed is in her apartement. But with her back to me, she looks outside her window. ''Nadin-...'' ''Get out.'' She says. Wow. That sounded harsh. Her voice is so cold, compared with a couple days ago; the last time I saw her. I don't recognize her anymore. ''Where have you been?'' I ask. Nadine sighs, and turns around. ''I said; get out.'' She says. Her face is pale. It looks like she is sick. But at the same time I believe she is not. ''I am not getting out.'' I spit. Nadine's eyes grow mad, and I expect her to attack, but she won't move. ''I am asking for reasons.'' I say. Nadine sighs and rolls her eyes. ''Do I have to answer?'' She asks. I nod widly. ''Come on,'' I spit. ''tell me. Why the hell did you shoot Cam?'' Nadine crosses her arms, uninterested. ''He was in my way.'' She says. I laugh sarcastic for a second. ''In your way?! In your way?!?! YOU SHOT YOUR BEST FRIEND!'' I yell. Nadine is clearly shocked by my answer, but she stares at me emotionless. ''I don't care. In fact, even at Amity, I have never seem him as a friend at all.'' She says. Tears appear in my eyes, and I shake my head. ''How...? What happened to you?'' I ask, now quietly. Nadine chuckles. ''This is how I am. I am Dauntless now. This is what we do.'' I blink. I want to burst out, scream at her. This is not something that Dauntless do! But I keep myself in, and just stare blankly at her. Then I start. ''Cameron Martinez... The sweet boy you used to play Amity boardgames with. Cameron Martinez... The boy who we used to play hide-and-seek with in kindergarten. Cameron Martinez... The boy who sacrificed-...'' ''Don't bring up the memories!'' Nadine shouts, covering her ears. But I continue. ''...The boy who sacrificed himself so many times so we won't get in trouble. Don't you remember, Nadine?'' I ask. Quiet. She stays quiet. ''Do you even feel any guilty?'' I ask, quietly. Nadine turns around with still her arms crossed. ''Of course I am. But this just had to be done.'' She says. Unbelievable. ''Without any reason?'' I ask. I see her nod. ''Yes. Some things just have no reason, Demi. That is something you got to deal with in life...'' She says. I sigh. What happened to her... She is totally out of her mind. My eyes now get really teared. I walk back to the door. ''Sure... If you think like that, then... I think I got to deal with it.'' I sigh, and after that, I close the door. My head is pounding from the conversation. The hell is wrong is her...
I sit at one of the tables from the canteen, pretty down. Quin looks at me. ''Demi, are you okay?'' She asks. I sigh. ''Yeah.'' I say. But Quin shows a face of disbelief. ''No.'' I then say. ''Spill.'' She says. I sigh. ''Nadine. It's like she totally lost her mind even since... Well, you know what happened.'' I say. She nods. ''I indeed something different about her. She is acting so withdrawn to me the last couple days. I sometimes even think she wants to punch me.'' Quin says. My eyes grow wide. Wow. Well, actually I am not surprised. It could be because I hang out with Quin so much. But I can't do a thing about that Josh asks us to the kitchen almost every second of the day. ''We should find out what is wrong with her. Before she kills every one of us.'' I say. ''Wow... That would be a total drama. I thought she was Amity.'' Quin says. I let out a chuckle. ''And I thought so too.'' ''Hey guys.'' It's Carrie. With Mason. We smile at them. ''Where were you talking about?'' She asks. ''Oh... Nothing.'' I just say. Carrie looks at us with disbelief. But she doesn't say anything. ''Did you know the Stiff jumped first this year?'' She says. I burst out a laugh of disbelief. ''A Stiff? Who jumped first?! Go away, man.'' I laugh. Carrie looks at me with big eyes. ''It's true! Her name is Tris.'' Carrie says. I laugh. ''Tris sounds not like Abnegation at all.'' I say. ''Well, they can change it, dummy.'' Quin says. I smile. Then my smile disappears. Laughing doesn't fit right now. Carrie notices my glance. ''Well, mind to do something fun?'' She smiles. Quin and I look at each other. ''Um... Sure.'' I say. We stand up and follow Carrie. I don't know if this should take my mind off. I don't think making fun now would erase my pain. Ah well...
The 'fun' thing Carrie calls it, is shooting muffins of people's head. I quickly spot Uriah, Marlene, Lynn and Rita. One girl I haven't seen before. She has blonde hair. Just like me. A ponytail. Just like me. We are almost similar. What do we also have in common? Divergence? Stop stop stop stop, Demi. It went well. No once noticed. Alright, maybe Eric. And... Maybe Jeanine Matthews... slowly. And maybe even Nadine. Shoot... What if they gossiped about me, and now the whole city knows?! Then I'll be doomed. No, stop it, Demi! I try to focus on Mason, who puts a muffin on my head. He chuckles. And sadly, I too. 'Please shoot through my head.' I say in my head to him. He aims his gun, and with a shock, the muffin falls off my head. ''My turn!'' Marlene yells. Dauntless games... They are so weird.
This bright, white are blinds me. I have no idea where I am. It feels like if it's snowing. I look around, but then I stand completely still, and focus on the clouds that come out of my mouth. Amity never had such days. Mostly it was just sunny. I look around again, and I slowly start to notice someone in the distance. ''Hey!'' I yell. No response. Nor movement. I walk over to the person. But I stand still once the person falls down in a huge puddle of blood. My eyes grow wide. It was Calvin, who fell on the ground. Like he was just stabbed or something. But I don't see anyone, thought. Once I look around, this field is filled with bodies. Oh no... Cam, Quin, Calvin, Blaise, Carrie, Keith, Mason, Sharon, Mar, Leo, Maisie, Grace, Bryan... Johanna... All dead. Some against trees, others on the ground. Even... Oh no... Even little Luna... I don't see two people. Then, I feel something sharp in my back, and I gasp. The person pulls it out of me, and I turn around. How the hell am I still alive after getting stabbed... I look with big eyes at the person. ''I left her behind for you... And you don't even care at all about me...'' She says. I keep myself up with my elbows. It's Nadine. She has the same glare as when I walked into her apartement. ''And you will pay after all. Divergent.'' A figure next to her says. Charity. They both don't look really friendly at me. ''Goodbye, Demi... Divergents have to be removed.'' Charity says, and it lasted just one second to feel the sharp blade right in my heart. I let out a gasp. And then, I fall down in the snow.
